lol...do you actually understand how rebuilds work? Like it’s beyond amazing how many people point to the lower payroll as a sign of cheapness when slashing unnecessary spending is step 1 of any rebuild. Every team that has gone through a rebuild, the Astros, the Cubs, etc. has done the exact same thing. As for your other point, rebuilds don’t normally lead to attendance increases & TV ratings improvements while the losing persists. The fact that those are up is proof the fanbase was completely disgruntled over our previous attempts at winning and are excited to watch a plethora of exciting young players. JR did not kick off a rebuild thinking fan interest interest would be better while losing 90 games and that he could capitalize off that financially. This shit is uber nonsense.

This narrative is ridiculous, the Sox did NOT rebuild for financial reasons. I don’t care how much some of you hate Jerry (and I’m not a fan of him myself), the purpose of the rebuild was 100% well intentioned with the ultimate goal of becoming a sustainable winner long-term. There is no conspiracy theory here.

I think Walker has a higher floor than Adolfo & Basabe given their swing & miss issues, which is probably the main reason I ranked him above them.

All else being equal, I’d probably say Player B, but obviously a lot of factors could change that.

I agree for the most part, but I think Walker’s combo of bat speed & plate discipline provides far more potential than most give him credit for, especially if there’s any chance he can stick in CF (doesn’t sound like that’s been ruled out just yet).

The plate discipline was fine, the lack of power was the issue. Will be interesting to see how he responds to juiced ball.

I just don’t get the love Rutherford gets around here. He’s got an incredibly ordinary corner outfield profile. I get he’s still very young, but at some point he’s got to show something to get me excited.

Doesn’t work like what? Collins is not on the same planet as Vaughn in terms of being a prospect, so not sure how this Lux theoretical makes any sense. And previous draft position doesn’t matter when evaluating current prospect value, so your theoretical makes even less sense. Also, the odds of Vaughn being close to as good as Alonso are much higher than you believe. Vaughn is the best 1B prospect we’ve seen coming out of the draft in years. Modern baseball suggests he can be incredibly valuable.

Vaughn was a much higher regarded prospect than Alonso prior to their drafts and while he may not hit for as much power as Pete, Andrew has a potential 70 grade hit tool that can make him equally as valuable.

You create financial flexibly so you can sign guys like Betts in free agency. You don’t trade critical cost controlled assets to pay Betts a market rate contract.

Do you think the Mets could easily replace Pete Alonso’s five win season at 1B for close to $500k right now? Vaughn is that type of talent potentially for us.

This plan has no DH, only 12 positional guys, and only 25 guys total on the active roster. Did you forget someone?

Madrigal, Robert, Vaughn, Cease, & Kopech are all critical to the rebuild because they can provide high end production for dirt cheap. The moment you trade them and have to replace them via free agency, you quickly run out of money to fill all your holes and end up with a flawed roster. For example, if you trade Cease, you basically need to add three starters this offseason and have $28M less to do it. It doesn’t make any sense unless the price is like Stiever & Walker.

It’s not if you trade multiple of your key cost controlled players while eating up a ton of your financial flexibility.

Wheeler is totally the target IMO. Just feels like a guy the Sox would love.
