  1. Guys do have bad years for all sorts of reasons. He’s at an age that you’d likely expect a return to form next year. No guarantees obviously, but I’d still take on his contract right now if the Padres were willing to unload for nothing.
  2. Just because he underperformed this year does not mean he’ll underperform going forward. You are totally jumping the gun here.
  3. I really don’t think we’ll be signing three relievers. Colome, Herrera, Bummer, & Fry are locks, while Cordero & Marshall will likely get spots as well, at least to start the season. I think they add one established high-leverage guy and go with some spring training invites to push Cordero & Marshall. Hamilton and some other young should also be in the mix.
  4. In all my years here, I don’t recall a single poster who could single handedly bring down the quality of the board this much. Like even Greg’s insanity results in a good chuckle once in a while. You’d think the non-stop whining would get tiring, but alas he keeps on chugging.
  5. I feel bad for whoever sits next to you in the office. The Bears are up 16 against a good Vikings team and all you can do is repeat ad nauseam how bad Mitch is. Like my god, do you ever shut up?
  6. I bet Ricky will cite all these meaningless late September wins in his year-end review!!
  7. ?...this Cooper rumor sounds too good to be true, but he’s got to be close to retirement. I know next to nothing about Menechino so not sure if that would be good or bad.
  8. Wheeler is easily worth forfeiting a second pick IMO.
  9. Bumgarner is not a whale...like not even fucking close man. Wheeler is so much better than him it’s not even funny and he’s not a whale. Either way, anyone but Cole & Rendon should be on the table. Strasburg is probably a long-shot, but that has to do more with how his agent will drag out the process and our need to address pitching right out the gate.
  10. Yes I did, which is don’t count on us landing a whale. We will certainly add quality players via free agency even if their last names aren’t Cole or Rendon. Those of you suggesting otherwise are implying we will be rocking a ridiculously low payroll and that’s not happening.
  11. Some of you live your lives according to Murphy’s Law and assume the worst will happen at all times.
  12. It’s absolute insanity that people think this.
  13. Grandal, especially if we plan on retaining Abreu for multiple years.
  14. I must have missed it, but what has Timmy attributed to Steverson? Other than Moncada, I’m not sure I’ve much proof Steverson has driven any of these changes. I have seen our manager say guys are zoning him out though, which is a significant red flag IMO.
  15. There is plenty of free agent pitching available. Four of the top 14 starters in terms of fWAR will be free agents (Cole, Strasburg, Ryu, & Wheeler) plus other several other semi-interesting guys in Bumgarner (3.2), Odorizzi (4.3), Gibson (2.6), Hamels (2.5), and Alex Wood. IMO, there is zero reason to trade for pitching. The hitting class is very underwhelming after Rendon, Grandal, & JDM if he declines his option. A trade would be more justifiable there, but we don’t have a lot of expendable chips.
  16. To me, this is very simple. Grandal is as good of a hitter as Castellanos, fits our lineup needs much better (lefty + elite OBP), and actually brings good defense at a positional of skill. Give me Yasmani any day of the week over Nicholas.
  17. And what if we extend Abreu for two or three years? What’s your plan with Vaughn?
  18. I think Mendick has done enough to get first crack at the reserve infielder job next year. Take the $4M or Yolmer will earn this year and use it elsewhere.
  19. This isn’t an either or thing...the Sox can and will load up on pitching and add a few bats. Adding Grandal does NOT prevent them addressing the pitching staff in any way, shape, or form IMO. Let me ask you this, who is it you want to add at DH?
  20. He worked with him over the offseason in AZ, but a lot of that may have been Moncada driven. Either way, our plate discipline has been horrendous and oftentimes it seems like our guys have no game-plan. Renteria made a crazy comment earlier this season that Todd was doing his job but some players were just zoning him out. To me, once the players stop listening to a coach, a change is most definitely needed.
