  1. Unless Rosenthal or Passan is reporting who is in the lead, I think anything we hear is straight posturing. Don’t get me wrong, I trust Buster more than say Nightengale, but he’s not getting access to information unless there’s some motivation behind it.
  2. His comment was about the attractiveness of the organization, not of the offer itself. And you’re making massive leaps on what our offer is based on what, the Machado fuckup? We literally just signed a top free agent and didn’t include any team options and limited incentives. By all means be skeptical, but a Wheeler type signing is right in our wheelhouse just like a Grandal signing was. We’re not talking about going against the big boys for Cole or Strasburg here.
  3. Rosenthal saying we’re still alive is all that matters at the moment.
  4. Would you want to be in the same division as the Nationals & Braves? I know the Twins are coming off a monster year, but they almost certainly regress and the Indians look like they will be doing a partial blowup. Add an insanely good young core and one of the best summer cities in the country and it’s a no-brained who is more attractive.
  5. I honestly feel that way as well.
  6. How the fuck are the White Sox way less desirable than the Phillies, Rangers, & Reds? You’re just hating to hate. And what are these numerous upgrades we need? Two SPs, a RF, and a bullpen arm? Guess what, we have the financial flexibility to add Wheeler and fill those other spots. This would not be a blessing in disguise.
  7. Zero reason to panic over this as leaks happen for a reason. Most likely, this is Wheeler’s camp wantIng other teams to think The Phillies are ahead of them in hopes of bumping their offers.
  8. Honestly, I was feeling very confident until Teorey pretended to play insider again. This really could be the mark of death for us.
  9. This is a really strange take that ignores all other considerations (such as cost to acquire) in favor of ethnic background & geographic upbringing.
  10. He’s the worst troll in the history of the board as he actually uses hate to get attention. People need to put this clown on ignore and move on.
  11. If you were willing to go 5/$110M, does an extra year and $10M really matter? Is that what you’re losing your top pitching target over?
  12. I think we sign a second starter and I have faith that Cease & Kopech can be useful rotation pieces next year. As for the timing of a potential Joc trade, it all depends on the price. That being said, I would definitely be more aggressive with Wheeler already in the fold.
  13. We are going for it next year and Joc would be a big part of that. Saying he would useless if we miss the playoffs is straight up ridiculous. If the price is a fringe prospect like Rutherford, I’m 100% for it. I’d much rather risk the 1/1000 chance Blake develops into a star than go with a questionable stop-gap in RF who may potentially cost us a year of Moncada, Giolito, Eloy, etc.
  14. Alright, it’s definitely happening!? Stone wouldn’t lie to us right??
  15. No one in the world thought Marcus Semien was a potential superstar at the time of that trade. Not one person and I say that as one of his biggest fans on this board. As for Tatis, he got a $700k signing bonus and was generally viewed in the 25th to 30th range in that signing class. If other teams thought he had superstar upside, he would have gotten a lot more money. Point is, there will always be uncertainty with prospects and it sounds like your strategy is trade none of them to prevent the low chance of accidentally trading a future star.
  16. We literally almost got him for Fulmer and an interesting relief prospect last year.
  17. How many potential future stars do you think are sitting in our system right now that aren’t named Robert, Madrigal, or Vaughn? You are going to an extreme because of one in thousand outcomes. Yes, we were burned twice, but that can happen to anyone. For fucks sakes, the Dodgers gave up Yordan Alvarez for Josh Fields. Are they also a shit run organization?
  18. Scouts have differing opinions all the time. The Dodgers wanted Fulmer a year ago when most other organizations probably didn’t value him very highly. Now he’s out of options and probably close to worthless. At the end of the day, we shouldn’t be holding prospects simply because we’re afraid of being wrong. Have faith in your self scouting and try to maximize value.
  19. Never said one year rents are the only option, but what do you think a guy like Blake Rutherford is going to get you right now? Also, I strongly disagree with the idea of all one year rentals being bad. There is nothing wrong with trading fringe prospects for guys that can help you now, even if said player is only control for one more season.
  20. I’d hold onto Adolfo & Basabe. I do like Walker, but I think I’d explore his trade value while there is still some hope he can play CF. That being said, I wouldn’t sell him for pennies on the dollar.
  21. I mean, if your fear is we don’t know which guy(s) will be good and who will be bad, there’s no guarantee we ever give the right guy an opportunity. So instead of operating in fear, self scout as best you can and extract value where possible.
  22. Sanchez is not ideal for a roster that will have Moncada, Anderson, & Madrigal locking down the infield for the vast majority of the year. Get a guy that actually provide some utility in other areas, because a late inning defensive replacement is not what we need.
  23. So your plan is to hold onto all of them in hopes that one of them exceeds expectations rather use some of them you don’t really like to fill holes on the major league roster or acquire minor league depth?
