While we are throwin out names...
So even though Kendall, who is basically a warm body at this point, got 2yrs, you don't think a guy who hit 30 home runs can get a 2 year contract? Nick Johnson is going to get 2 years, so thats what Branyan will ask for. Someone will pay.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Realistics? For Branyon? There is no way. He and Pods are in the same boat. They might settle for a little less but someone will give them the money (coughsabeancoughcoughminayacough)

While we are throwin out names...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Where in the heck did you see that? Thought I saw it on LL or MLBTR but now searching a bit I don't see anything. Still likely to be too pricey at 2 yrs 6-7MM each, which is a more realistic contract.

Welcome to the South Side, Hank Blalock.

Word on the street is he's looking for 2-3 years at 10MM each. No thanks.

How much do you care about Ks?
Just so we're clear here, there is categorically no way Cust should be brought aboard as anything other than DH.
-
How much do you care about Ks?
They're fine, as long as they're placed in the right spots in the lineup. If we got Cust to add power he'd hit 5th probably. You can bet that moving to USCF would at least boost his HR totals, but I can see the Yankees taking a chance on him since that place is like a powder keg for lefties.

Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
Also I don't have projections on hand, but i'm guessing no one projected Jerry Owens or Brian Anderson to be a 2.7 WAR player going in to any season.

Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
The problem there is that if the Sox acquire Gardner, it will be to start in CF or LF. There isn't really any hiding that. The alternative that I can see is getting a guy like Luke Scott and just assuming that Becks will be the leadoff guy, since i'm guessing all the money/positions will be gone.

Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
As long as theres a plus defender to go with Rios I don't care what his name is.

White Sox Non-Tender DJ Carrasco
QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Carrasco end up in the National League as a back-of-the-rotation starter for somebody. He has Nats written all over him. Hell he'd probably be their third best starter right now.

Sox interested in Yanks' Brett Gardner
Ryan Langerhans was non tendered by the M's. He is basically Gardner without the stolen bases but with a better arm. If they take a flyer on someone, why not the guy who will be almost free?

My screen name has to change i guess
Nah Dawson stays. I'd wait until the opening day roster is set before deciding a name. Who knows what twists and turns the offseason still holds.

Sox in on JJ Putz?

Official: Omar Vizquel Signs with Sox
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Wow I didn't think Jayson was that bad. Platoon bat, decent defense, a bit of power, poor contact. He isn't a starter, but he isn't a backup either. Just seems like a bad fit.

I was kind of thinking it might be nice to get a john mcdonald type elite defender for backup, so this would be nice. Maybe he can teach Alexei a thing or two.

AGon discussion, et. al.
I could see the Angels acquiring Konerko and then trading Kendry for pitching. He has a lot of value right now, and Konerko should put up solid, if unspectacular numbers as a replacement. Please please please...

ESPN Rookie of the Year Analysis
I'd probably go Anderson, Niemann, Beckham, Porcello, Andrus in that order.

CHONE
Beyond the obviously out of date roster, CHONE seems to weight age very heavily, going both ways. For instance, they don't predict much improvement for Gordo in his age 23 season, but they seem to think David Cook, a career minor leaguer, can put up a decent line in the MLB, due to his being in the 26-30 age range. Meanwhile, they have Ichiro at something like 300/330/400, which would be a massive downturn for him, and there's no real reason to think that will happen... except that Ichiro will be 37 next season. So, obv. CHONE has its flaws, and I seem to remember it being one of the more "pessimistic" prognosticators. However, it is what it is. In case you didn't know, the White Sox offense isn't very good.

ESPN Rookie of the Year Analysis
Ozzie banged his wife. I didn't think Gordo would win but to see him cast so low is unfortunate.

CHONE
CHONE projections for 2010 hitters are up. http://www.baseballprojection.com/2010/CHA2010.htm Discuss. They're pretty bullish on Q! at least.
