Actually, yeah. He's striking out about 30% of the time, about the same as Danks, as a 21 year old in AAA. That's encouraging. He definitely needs to cut that by like, 5% or more, but he's got time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Really? I thought it was the power we were waiting on. Well, based on what I read, he already has the swing to generate power, so the power is expected. It hadn't shown up this season but all reports indicated it was there. OTOH, no one is really sure if he will ever be able to cut down k's, draw walks, and hit offspeed pitches.

You mean a catcher with a 1.0+ OPS in AAA? Cuz uh, i'd rather have that guy on my team. Why is everyone so sure that Flowers is going to fall off the face of the earth when he gets called up?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) A Kotsay type perhaps. hardyharhar maybe someone with a buyout next year, like Berkman or Hawpe. Not someone you'd have to sell the farm for, and then turn around and fail to sign them long term.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) With the way this season has started, it makes a Gonzalez trade even more unlikely. First, the Padres are peforming well. Second, AJP's struggles makes Flowers development even more important. Third, with our poor attendance prognosis, it makes Gonzalez's likely extension by the Sox more in doubt and highlights the need for younger talent. Yup. It just doesn't make any sense, although it didn't make much sense going in to the season. Konerko's power surge and Andruw's second rebirth also don't help, but if Andruw starts to fall off like he did last year, I expect KW to add a lefty bat - just not a Prince Fielder/AGon type bat.

Wonderful, but lets see what the next few games are like. He's had a lot of 0-4, 2K nights. Everyone knows he can hit for power, it's more important that he improves pitch recognition and discipline.

I wouldn't say Kila is blocked exactly, as Butler is a butcher, even at first, but I suppose it applies. I have a big prospect crush on him but I don't see much chance of getting him. Wish we'd have swapped Getz and Fields for that guy! I don't really see much in Chris Davis, though. He seems to have Josh Fields Disease.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Ozzie won't put Pierre 9th though. I'd do that if I could though. Yeah, i'm more concerned with AJ batting 5th than Pierre at this point. Pierre is lousy but AJ is abysmal right now and he NEEEEEEDS to hit #8 in front of Alexei.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Just curious, what is the ABSOLUTE best possible offensive upside of Morel? Someone like Kouzmanoff or Teahen? Or better? What are some current major leaguers you would make a comparison to...? Always seems to be linked to this guy : http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/randajo01.shtml That's pretty good, honestly, considering the level of defense he plays.

Nah, no one that good. Like maybe Santos Rodriguez or a CJ Retherford type. We could kick in money and a prospect and maybe get Gamel, but I doubt that even.\ edit - to McGehee et al. Obv. Soriano is a bum with a bad contract.
-
Not much, unless the Sox kick in. Either a low-A guy with upside or a more developed player with a low ceiling. Certainly not one of any team's top 10-15 prospects.
-
Man, I dunno if that is sposed to be green or what. I don't want to let go of any of the starting pitching, and really only want to see youngins where theres a potentially big upgrade to be had.
-
Sox can probably get some B prospects by trading AJ, Putz, maybe Bobby if they chip some cash (which they don't do). They can save some money by accepting junk for Paulie. If they get really lucky and he keeps hitting they can maybe get a middling prospect for Andruw. Not a lot but every little bit helps. They could get blue chip guys by trading Floyd and especially Danks, but i'd really hate to see that happen. I want to keep the faith here but I keep finding less painful ways to spend my time than following the Sox.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) 15 games played. 147 left. 15 games played 6 games back The 2010 White Sox have been a special kind of awful so far, and ultimately look like they will continue 2009's mandate of being just good enough to be mediocre. It isn't too early to be up in arms about this kind of failure - this started last year.

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Well there is no way we are going to hit in the .220's for the entire season, its just not gonna happen.. And I don't think the starting pitching is going to be a problem, there's still time that's the beauty of the baseball season.. Where there's a will, there's a way.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) I'm still nowhere close to giving up on the season. But what we've seen to this point is extremely discouraging. I'm not so sure it's a case of just playing bad baseball. I look up and down the AL, and I struggle to find 3-4 teams that I can say without question have less talent than the Sox. Not sure its a question of talent so much as I can think of at least one guy on every team that is having a hot streak at the plate. Usually more. Right now the Sox have no one who is hot, and 4 or more guys who are essentially automatic outs.
-
The only difference Lilly would make is that the groundouts would turn into K's.
-
I'd like to think this is hitting bottom for the Sox but I have this feeling it is going to get worse somehow.

Sorry folks! Wally World is closed!

Bloop doubles

Young Danks is pitching out of his mind right now.
-
The way the FA market formed this off season and last, I wouldn't be surprised if Paulie has to settle for 2/10 or even a 1 year deal. It would be silly to give him that much money (3/20).
-
Those numbers for a left fielder are below replacement level. The steals aren't but if your OBP is .300 then stealing bases isn't going to matter. That's Willy Taveras territory. Pierre is awful and I don't like him hitting 9th, let alone 1st.
-
Yeah im wavin the white flag.
-
These assumptions all generally held that AJ and Pierre were locks for .725 and .700 OPS respectively. Most of them also included a Q clause. Yeah, Sox can be plenty bad even if Rios is good. It is nice that he is hitting well, however, since we are stuck with him.
