The Jim Thome Saga Ends
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) THis is kinda interesting... From Merkins tweets... Could we be sneaking DYe in the backdoor under the cover of Thome? Hope not. Damon is low-hanging fruit right now. Regardless of his agent, the Sox should sign him to DH/LF.

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
Here's the thing - the people who b****ed about Thome did so because it is frustrating watching the same guy strike out a ton. It is a perfectly valid complaint. It is also perfectly valid to complain about not replacing the production of said K machine with a better option and going into the season with a huge deficit in run producers compared to last years below 500 team.

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
FUOG edit - still holding out that they get someone else, but of course that is far fetched at this point.
-
Who do you have the highest expectations for?
Overall - Peavy, Beckham. Should see big things from them. Relative to what is expected - Rios, Teahen. Rios should bounce back, and T-hen should at least get a little power bump. I want to like him so much, I hope he doesn't disappoint.

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
It scares me that I have no idea what direction this team is headed in anymore. Even if Ozzie is full of it and KW ends up signing Thome, there doesn't seem to be any logic to this roster construction beyond "hope the pitching keeps you in it".

The only way i'm ok with Thome as a Twin is if Damon is a Sock

Fun Game: DRAW and DISCARD
How about getting Grienke and dropping Linebrink?
-
Fun Game: DRAW and DISCARD
Gonzales, Kemp, Markakis\Jones or Upton and drop Lilly or Marquez
-
Who are you pulling for as the DH?
Not that he's an exciting option, but Cust is out. Blalock? Thome? Nobody?

Konerko, Ventura honored in Italian-American Heritage card set
Konerko is looking pretty Kenny Powers there.

Best Available Fit Left: Delgado
I know that there is a give and take with managers and you have to admire his handling of the pitching staff, but Ozzie's lineup constructions are straight retarded. No offense.
-
Darren Oliver?
Nah, we don't need a second lefty bad enough to pay for Oliver. It'll probably be Randy Williams. edit - maybe Beimel if they can get him for like, 1mil, but even then i'd think twice.

Big 3 is key
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Short of Tommy John coming to visiting the starting rotation, there is nothing to worry about from the starting rotation. Not nothing, just less question marks. Of course i'd rather have a relatively problem free rotation and a lot of ifs on offense than the other way around so at least there is that.
-
Big 3 is key
While I agree that the offense is the bigger "key", there are still questions to the rotation. Peavy still has adjusting to do, to be sure. There's also the issue of Dank's blisters and, more pressingly, Gavin's hip.

AGon discussion, et. al.
Next year would be an ideal time to get Gonzo. The asking price will be lower and the Sox will have an opening for him. Also I just don't see anyone ponying up for him while the price is so high, so he may very well still be with SD going into next offseason. However, if the Yankees sign Holliday, I think the R Sox bite the bullet and just make the trade happen, regardless.

Projected Sox Batting Order
If Oz wants Beckham to have RBI opportunities he should bat him third.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:12 AM) I still don't understand why we just don't play Danks. Some thought we were rushing Beckham and he did great. Baseball should start to be like other sports and not be afraid to play some of these guys right away. I'd rather rush Danks than play Pierre a lot wouldn't you all? No. If you like Danks as a prospect you should be pushing for him to get another year of seasoning in the minors. He would be horrendous, sub-replacement material if he started in 2010. Pierre is what he is, likely to be a steady producer. Not particularly good, but I can say with 95%+ certainty he would outhit Danks. Lets hope KW has figured out finally how to handle prospects as something beyond trade bait.

Hello, it's nice to meet you. My name is Devil's Advocate.
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) One thing I disagree with seemingly most the board... I for one believe Andruw was signed to have a serious role here. I agree but I also think that KW isn't done. He has piled uncertainty on top of uncertainty and I think he has to add a true, reliable impact bat if he wants to really compete.

sox close to another deal?
Fair enough. I apologize for being uppity. FWIW I hope they are right and its someone good.
-
sox close to another deal?
There was a 67 page thread about it. Kong to Angels, etc. If it had just said there were discussions with SD that would be one thing. But particulars were discussed as if an actual 3 way trade was being considered, which of course, no other outlet had heard or discussed. No need to be defensive, just sayin.

sox close to another deal?
Same guys who "broke" the adrian gonzalez trade right? I remain skeptical.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
minor note - rogers centre has about the same park conversion rate as USCF. its a dome and thus not any sort of pitchers paradise.
-
White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
oh and im guessing ely and a relief guy.

White Sox acquire Juan Pierre
