So is their OF. Past Adam Jones, that is. The O's aren't very good, is my point. They have money, so maybe they sign both?
-
I think the O's sign Fowler. FWIW, I'm split 50/50 on whether the Sox should sign Fowler or trade for Ethier and sign AJax/trade for Jennings. I think that over the next two years, both combos should produce similar value.
-
So when we're right around .500 in July, what do we do?

I think how the Sox react to this very reasonable scenario depends on how the rest of the AL is faring. If, as expected, there are 5-6 other teams with very similar records and not a lot above that (like 2-3 teams at 5-10 games over) then I would think they add. If, however, things stratify a bit more and the Sox are behind 4-5 teams for the wild card, the path is less clear. They could deal some small pieces and try to reload for next year, or ride it out and hope to get hot. Can't see them selling unless they really bomb out. Maybe next offseason if things go very badly. -
Yeah sorry Dan, i'm not seeing it. Cool trade though. The NL West sure is weird.
-
Brewers also got Chase Anderson, who is a perfectly serviceable BOR started. Good trade for them.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) I assume Hahn has some kind of plan here. I'm assuming he has several plans. My worry is that, like with Upton/Cespedes/Gordon, they won't pan out.
-
I wouldn't say Cespedes is that important, so much as ANY upgrade in the OF is. I would say those projections for Avi are pretty optimistic.

Rosie is, but Heyman isn't

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:02 PM) Their owner is about as wealthy as anyone, and their payroll is well down from last season. I just don't see the fit. I am probably wrong, but I think if they really are engaged, they may be trying to get the Sox or another team to offer more years and keep him off the Mets. Very real possibility, although who knows, maybe they want to cut Werth's playing time.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) It's not the case. Don't people read? I mean f***ing seriously.... Nightengale mostly, but others have said the Sox "may consider" 4 years. In the end they'll either have to give more guaranteed years or they won't sign him. I can't say what is or isn't true, only what is being reported.

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) If the Sox are sticking at 3 years, we're not landing Cespedes. By all accounts, that is the case. edit - well all national accts. Options to me means they don't want more than 3 guaranteed years.
-
Cespedes > Fowler = Jackson > Pearce > Everyone else > Avi Yeah they need an OF, but which one? Still a few options. Washington isn't a great fit for Yo, but they've signed players they didn't need before (Scherzer for example).
-
Best outcome, but this probably means Cespedes for

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
daggins replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe Detroit or Cleveland. Really any AL team can be considered a contender, and many need OF depth. BOS, NYY, any of em really. -
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jan 1, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) Nightengale is reliable, though of course he could be fed something with purpose just like anyone else. Also it sounds like the # of buyers right now is pretty bad. You have to evaluate this with that info at the forefront of everything. This has the feel of a report that we'd get before (1) a signing (2) us getting out of the mix Talks could have cooled and this is an attempt by one side to get the ball rolling again. So yeah, I know we say this every day, but hopefully there is resolution in the next week.
-
I think it was implied due to his market being quiet and the sox not wanting to go over 5 years / ~100MM
-
Because clearly no one wants to play for the Sox, duh. Gordon is just trying to up the offer from KC, Cespedes the same but Baltimore. (/green)
-
He makes it sound much less imminent. Makes me think this drags out a couple more days.
-
Reasons to believe this tweet: 1. Lots of smoke today, national media reporting Sox interest in Yo Reasons not to believe it: 1. Everything else
-
Merkin doesn't think the Sox go over 100MM for an OF. That lines up with Gordon more than Yo. I think we can banish Upton from the convo.
-
In 4 years we'd all hate them and their stupid contracts But in 2016 it would be glorious
-
screw it, sign Gordon AND Upton
-
.245/.290/.340 8 HR 22 SB, 35 RBIs. I think he'll hold his own defensively as a SS but fWAR will probably be in the .5-1 range. He's a bench player.
-
The guaranteed years look like they more or less line up with his arb raises, and the third year is some insurance in case he gets back to being a 1.5WAR reliever. Those guys get 4 year 30 MM contracts in FA.
-
Have to see the options but could be a nice bargain. Assuming he's healthy of course.
