  1. Probably just doesn't want to get CTE. Can't blame him.
  2. They're close, though. They already project to be around the middle of the pack in the AL. Need more from the OF corners.
  3. Eh, Shuck is cheap but isn't good. There's not much behind him, so more depth is better. Not talking about breaking the bank, but like, Victorino or even De Aza would be nice to have.
  4. OF, OF, OF. A corner bat and, with TNT gone, a viable 4th OF are needed. Possibly SS depth, but not as important. I wonder what Rollins is looking for $$ wise SP depth is needed as well.
  5. Its a tricky game, because you don't want the Sox competing with themselves and overpaying, but you also don't want them to draw things out so that LA or Detroit or even the Mets or Royals can pounce on a lower market price.
  6. I get the feeling that Arte is just playing the leverage game.
  7. These are just depth moves, they'll absolutely be in on Yo and Upton
  8. Yeah the Dodgers going for floor over ceiling is a smart move. Don't get the Reds end.
  9. Given what was lost and what was gained, I love it for the Sox and Dodgers. Poor job by the Reds.
  10. I could see Upton, or Cespedes, or CarGo, but they need SOMETHING to happen in the OF.
  11. I like Trayce but they sold high. Good job. Montas stings but we have depth. Good trade. Kept Anderson and Fulmer. I agree that the Sox should just go for it and pony up for Upton on a backloaded contract. No sense in not doing so.
  12. "I didn't take the highest offer," Heyward told reporters. "For me, a winning attitude and culture and the fact that this group is such a young group and I could grow myself with it." As for the former, well, Price got 217MM over 7 years, is older, and has been produced value similarly (~5 fWAR per season) per year. So if getting 30 million less (and far less AAV) than a similar player isn't an underpay, I don't know what is.
  13. Oh and the Heyward deal is a substantial underpay and a major coup by the Cubs. He even took less money to sign with them.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 08:05 AM) yeah i can see that, but i would really like to know who this grievance will play out. i mean this is a move that his agent would love to challenge mlb with ... It's a pretty interesting situation, for sure. Does anyone know how player grievances are usually settled? If found culpable, does the team pay a settlement? Does it factor into the players arbitration earnings? Do they secure some kind of language that promises the issue will be addressed in the next CBA? Inquiring minds want to know.
  15. They're both professionals, so no. Besides, Bryant knows that he will get his.
  16. Another Cinci plant? Or are the Indians upping their offer?
  17. I remember reading that they made a special exception for Davis, because he is Angelos pet favorite or something. Point being, I doubt they offer that money to Upton. Davis or bust for them (or bring back Parra).
  18. The Cards did win 100 games, though they had really remarkable luck. They're still a match for the Cubs and probably better than the Pirates with what they have. The O's won't pony up for Upton, Angelos makes JR look like a spendthrift. I think its basically Angels, White Sox, Tigers, maybe Rangers, Nationals and maybe the Royals (if they get real crazy) as the OF market competition.
  19. They need an OF and and IF and pitching depth. There are many open avenues.
  20. There are some hare-brained trade proposals in the Soxtalk offseason plan thread. It's hardly unique to Cubs fans.
  21. This isa a great contract for a FA of Heyward's caliber. That said, I like having Eaton for cheap the next 6 years.
  22. Gonna say trade for CarGo and sign Howie Kendrick. Then pen and rotation depth.
  23. On any given day i'd say Sale vs Greinke is close to a wash. Q is better than Miller and Corbin's upside is less than Rodon.
  24. whoa, he had less value than i thought
