  1. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) When you look at the free agents for next season, i would be interested to see who would offer that kind of money. Yankees? Red Sox? It's a lot to pay for Jeff Samardzija. This is why nobody in the thread wants to sign him.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) I'd fire Tim Beckman just for that speech he gave today. Jeez dude, what are you talking about. Not even his worst press conference of the last 6 months.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) The White Sox hired him off of the street from a sports agency. He had no prior connection to the White Sox before being hired here. Loyalty would have meant someone else internally filling that position. It didn't happen. Maybe if he fails at his job we can promote him again.
  4. It will be interesting to see who gets minutes at PG this year, then. Jaylon Tate, your table is ready?
  5. So, do people still feel like Samardzija gets traded at this point? It feels like they're just going to stand pat to me.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) It is 6-0. Really nothimg to complain about. Ha. True enough.
  7. 36 posts in the 8th inning of a gamethread? Yikes.
  8. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) I don't trust Hahn's ability to identify/evaluate talent. He has a poor track record so far. If I'm not mistaken, KW is more responsible for the scouting aspect than Hahn. Wasn't the story that Hahn hadn't even seen Abreu in person when he was signed? Not that this really changes anything...
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 02:51 PM) it's not the worst thing in the world...but you guys can't tell me this team has a shot at competing in the next 2 seasons and then take a comp pick for Samardzija. It just totally does not match up. The question then becomes, how much better of are we really for the next 1-2 years with just a B prospect as a return?
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) Stone said the other day Avi was 5th in the AL in velocity coming off his bat. As down as some people are on him, there is potential there. If he gets balls in the air, he could be a monster. He also swings at the 3rd most pitches out of the zone and is the 9th worst at hitting pitches out of the zone in all of the mlb. Obviously, he's still young, but I'm not exactly holding my breath. The Sox really need him to put it together.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) As of today our 4th starter would be Carlos Rodon. I'll match him up with most anyone's #4, and not feel bad about it. The only worry would be how much gas he'd have left in the tank that late into the season.
  12. Assuming he's still a free man after all this is said and done, I'd be all for it.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Eh. I am not sure I would go that far. They did spend $10 million Viciedo, when no one was spending that amount out of Cuba. It also wasn't against the rules at that time. I'd be absolutely shocked if they did anything more than show interest.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) You angry boy lately. Very angry! I think Kenny is a great scout. We can't really look at things in a vacuum. When Kenny was heading player development the system was of the best in the baseball. His issue was that he thought he needed to exhaust every penny on the MLB team and got bent over by the past CBA as a result of it. You almost make it sound like this wasn't his own fault.
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Better be cash considerations. If it's between the two of them, I don't think it really matters.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 06:56 PM) Unfortunately, it's been a disappointing year so far on the farm. There's no one that I can say with confidence will be a starting infielder/outfielder/catcher/pitcher down the road at the big league level. Montas and Danish still have a lot of doubters in terms of their ability to start. I feel like we say this every year.
  17. I would be pretty shocked if Shark took the offer. It's almost never a good idea to turn down multiple years of guaranteed money even if the amount is smaller per year. Especially as a guy over 30.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) What seems like a great idea, sometimes doesn't work out that way. If the Sox signed Panda, the 3rd base problem would be considered solved. Last year, Gillaspie had a better OPS, but that had to be an outlier. Gillaspie hasn't been good offensively, but look: Gillaspie OPS .682 Panda OPS .688 You would think Panda would get better, but, many here are saying the White Sox hitters are what they are, so why wouldn't that apply to all teams? Panda is a better fielding $100 million Conor Gillaspie. I feel like there's some alternate dimension where you're making this same exact post about Melky Cabrera and Dayan Viciedo right now.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Considering how a lot of people can't take 2 weeks of Carlos Sanchez struggling, even though there was a walk off hit in there, it pretty much answers the question why a total teardown and rebuild will never happen Tearing this team down completely is stupid, but letting the fans run your franchise is equally so.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) 25-21 would be an 88 win pace. Not too bad.
  21. If the Sox end up selling, I'd be shocked if they traded Alexei. Anderson looks to be more than a year away, and since I don't think Alexei has much value, there's no point in trading him away for a prospect that doesn't have much of a chance of impacting the team. They're not going to be completely tearing this thing down no matter what happens this season.
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 28, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Sometimes I feel like I'm witnessing a different reality than half of this board. We're in year TWO (2)(!) of the Rick Hahn rebuild, the farm system is stronger than it's been in ten years, we've got a relatively clean set of financial commitments going forward despite a huge bump in payroll, attendance is up, and the White Sox continue to increase their revenues every single year. How can an argument be made that the fans or city of Chicago is holding the team back? Is the team being held back at all? By what? I'd say they're being held back by their decisions prior to the Hahn era, but they seem to be moving in the right path nowadays. Now if only they could develop some positional prospects...
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) That's the thing that people are getting wrong. It doesn't bother me. It isn't going to change who I root for. People are going to do what people are going to do, and there really isn't much you can change about that. But, that doesn't mean you can ignore reality if you are looking at ways to make things better. Because of the sort of fan base we have, our options for rebuilding are limited. That isn't the "company line" or any other thing that is being said by people who can't actually refute any of what I am saying so they have resorted to name calling. That is reality. It is also worth mentioning that the sense of worth right here is over inflated. Constructive answers? Does anyone really think what they say here actually makes a difference to the franchise as a whole? I mean I love this place and all, but if Rick and Kenny are reading Soxtalk for answers, we are all screwed. Are our options limited? I mean, we've gone through a whole lot of losing in the past few years, but the team remains profitable. For years, I've read on this site that we need to rebuild on the fly or else we will lose the fan base. Looks like we lost it regardless.
  24. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 26, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) You're trying to create a narrative. Resigning your own players and one big acquisition isn't looked at as a "big offseason" by the industry. The Sox have nothing to compare with this past offseason really. '04-'05 brought in a big influx of players but it was veteran scrap heap pick ups and moving on from very productive hitters in Maggs/Lee. These are unchartered territories for the Sox. I know I'll get a lot of a hate but I don't think a lost season this year deters the Sox from their path. Almost all of our past productive players are going to play to their ability once again. No eight week sample is going to change that. DH LaRoche 1B Abreu SS Ramirez LF Cabrera CF Eaton RF Garcia SP1 Sale SP2 Quintana SP3 Rodon SP5 Danks CL Robertson LHP Duke LHP Jennings RHP Jones We'll have some money to spend despite what Balta thinks ( ) and we will be more insulated in depth. Almost all of our better prospects will be in the higher ranks of the minors so not only can they fathomably help the big league team, they have more perceived value in trade. All of the following will be at AA/AAA. INF: Sanchez, Johnson, Michalczewski, Anderson, Saladino (depth) OF: Thompson, Hawkins, May, Engel (outside chance) Pitching: Danish, Montas, Fry, E. Johnson, Webb, Beck, #8 pick. We haven't had depth like that since 2000. Holes will still exist at C/3B/2B/ and we'll need a starter (Samardzija or whoever) but long term the team's state hasn't changed much. The only problem I see is that we don't have the position players to be able to sustain Garcia and Sanchez/Johnson busting. The pitching is there, though.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) It did, because I keep getting told that it isn't about one appearance, it is about multiple appearances. because the Sox have gotten to the playoffs, and had attedance fall. If you want to sustain bandwagon fans, you need to keep winning. If you win enough, some of them will become legitimate long term fans.
