  1. Exactly, he has 3 solid years before he even hits 35.
  2. I don´t agree with you but at you at least saying let him play out his 2011 contract?
  3. I really think the window for him to have won it has passed. The best thing now is that he is such a reliable 3/4 option for any team and is guaranteed (Almost) to give 175-200 innings per year of 3.7-4 ERA ball. Can´t ask for much more. I easily think with the right approach (Not saying he doesn´t have it already) you can get another 3-4 years out of his arm. Heck I think with the right club (Obvious inclusion of the Sox) he can win another 13-15 games per year. As a matter of fact depending on what we do with Danks (extend or not) I think Buerhle is a great option for our rotation from 2012-14.
  4. New article up saying Mark is now really interested in playing in 2012 and beyond. If we could get him at a discount that would be awesome. Still depends on his 2011 numbers though. Link: http://www.csnchicago.com/02/18/11/Sox-Dra...&feedID=661 Article: Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 Posted 5:41 p.m. By Chuck Garfien CSNChicago.com GLENDALE, Ariz. - Mark Buehrle is a man without a filter. A pitcher who says what’s on his mind. “I usually have my comments once a year, once every couple years,” Buehrle admits. “I say something I probably shouldn’t have. Sometimes people like it, sometimes people don’t.” Michael Vick, for example. But Friday, Buehrle shared some words that people will like, especially if you live south of Madison Street in Chicago. The White Sox legend is backing off comments he’s made the last two years when he frequently hinted about retiring after his contract runs out following this season. Instead, he has arrived at spring training thinking about playing this year and beyond. “A couple years ago I was really, really seriously considering retiring after this year, and I think the percentage is going down,” Buehrle told Comcast SportsNet. Buehrle acknowledges that there is still a small brain cell in his noggin that yearns to walk away to be with his family for good, but after talking it over with his wife Jamie during the off-season, the plan is for Buehrle to finish out his contract, and then sign another one. Where? “Hopefully it’s here,” Buehrle said. “I don’t know what the team has moneywise for the next couple years. There’s a lot of factors. They might have someone else up and coming and they don’t even want me back. I’m open to whatever. If this is the last year, I’m going to go out and have fun like I always do. "I’m not going to put any more pressure on myself during the season. I’ll go out there every five days, do the best I can, and whatever happens at the end of the year happens.” After the 2011 season, Buehrle will have made $84 million in his major league career. He has a $15 million vesting option for 2012 that kicks in if he’s traded, and few teams will be willing to take on that kind of salary, although the pitching-weak New York Yankees certainly come to mind. But if Buehrle becomes a free agent, he says he won’t play just anywhere. “If the White Sox don’t want to sign me back after this year and some team (wants me) that I’m not a fan of, or don’t want to play for, or it’s too far from home, I’m not going to go play just to make money. It’s going to have to be the right spot, the right fit for my family.” The thought of Buehrle wearing something other than a White Sox uniform could send many Sox fans into a panic - or at the very least, a therapist’s office. But he’s already compiled a small list of teams he’d play for in his head. “Obviously, St. Louis would be there. I’m not going to throw teams out (publicly) because obviously at the end of your career, you’re going to want to go to a team that can win. You’re not going to go to a team that’s rebuilding. Right now I can’t pinpoint how many teams. I know there are teams in my head that I will not go to, no matter how much money or what the situation is.” Considering the rivalry the Sox have with a certain team on the North Side of town, I had to ask if he was referring to the Cubs. “I’m not saying any names. I’m not throwing any cities, any towns, anything out there, but I have a few teams on my mind that I would go play for and there’s a few teams I wouldn’t play for.” At this point I mentioned to Mark that if he did actually sign with the Cubs, there would be major concern about the mental well being of many White Sox fans. “I could see that. I don’t know if I could get up for that many day games. I’m not a morning person. Spring training is about it. I need some sleep.” So rest easy South Siders. You’ve got Buehrle for one more season. Maybe two. Maybe more. And remember that once in a lifetime play he made last Opening Day? Behind the back, through the legs, into the hands of Paul Konerko? “I’m going to try to top it this year,” Buehrle predicted. He was kidding. But Buehrle sticking around? That’s no joke. He’s all in.
  5. If he hit 45 bombs this year I think he would need about 31-32 per year to beat Bonds' record over his final 10 yesrs. I am thinking he could average closer to 50 or better at Wrigley if the Cubs got ever so lucky and signed him.
  6. We were all psyched that Beckham would rake in 2010 and start to really develop, although I do remember some mentioning a possible sophmore slump. GO SOX!!!
  7. For the Cubs to offer him 10/20 it would mean about 25% or less of their payroll if they continue to hover at 120-130 million. I don't know how this will pan out but I am not sure Ricketts will go after Pujols. It seems he is trying to cut payroll and develop the farm, where they have been making some progress.
  8. I'm not saying that is bad either. I'm just saying that this is a negotiation between 2 parties.
  9. Then why go through all this drama if it isn't about the money? If he is really that ethical and enjoys it so much he could have found a middle ground.
  10. Yeah sorry J4L, meant to say that is a hypothetical assumption.
  11. Even if they were able too they have that window of 5-6 years during the life of the contract when they would get the most value. I can't see Pujols being effective after age 38 but hey some DH types are still mashin the ball a little bit (Thome comes to mind). I think another idea might be to front load the contract for whoever signs him. The 10 year thing should be club options though.
  12. I think you're right on this one. I really doubt either would shell out this monstrous contract just to avoid the other landing Pujols.
  13. Wouldn't it make sense that either Mauer or Morneau wind up as DH candidates at some point to save on the wear and tear?
  14. I have seen some articles still giving the Cards a sight edge with their exclusive window open up until 5 days after the WS but I gotta believe if the don't get it down now it probably won't happen. DH is probably a good role for Pujols to save on the wear and tear of his elbow but I think he going after the money now. Not sure apart from the Cubs really which NL team is lining up their budget to fit his price tag. I think they are the only team that comes to mind (Cards obviously) that can afford him. Mets and Ddgers have really nasty internal financial messes to grapple with.
  15. Link: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/da...talks-tuesday/1 Whoa Nellie!!! Seems the latest offer was rejected and he may just shut down the talks come Wednesday. We got ourselves a recipe for a season long hype fest folks!!
  16. Anyone know or think he will he get a ST invite?
  17. You forgot "Peavy makes perfect defensive gem to challenge Buerhle for the 2011 honors!!" :lolhitting
  18. New link up to keep the Hot Stove goin: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-p...onstalled020811 Basically a rehash of prior posts that the talks seemed to be stalled and now it looks like the deadline has been brought up by 3 days as Pujols reports on the 16th. I reckon this thread will if anything die down once ST starts.
  19. The naive stupid part of me wants to think he will take 6/180 or 7/210 just to get a higher yearly average than ARod. But hey that just me... And you can never count out the BoSox or Yanks getting into the bidding id he does indeed make it to FA.
  20. I can see him DHíng to save the wear and tear on his body (particularly his elbow) but I would be inclined to think most teams are not going to want to invest in him past his 38th/39th birthday. As noted before the only comparable player contract of this era belongs to ARod and he is beginning to show signs of regression now.
  21. Link: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/st-loui...rces-say-020511 Quick update - Ken Rosenthal reports talks are not going well and Cards ownership balking at supposed asking price of 10/300 million. He could be a FA after the season but the clubs with money already have 1B locked up. The Cubs will have cleared a lot of payroll and if they unload Zambrano to the Yankees as some speculate well then even more money to spend... Time will tell.
  22. Greatstuff, he deserves it. He has been really good the past couple of years.
  23. Profits or net income generally imply total revenue minus total expenses in a given period.
  24. SS2K5, I don't mind getting policed if the thread requires that, really no biggie. I learned my lesson a while back about becoming too negative in this place so it is cool. As a matter of fact I always ask for threads to be merged, renamed, etc.
