  1. In Hindsight I wonder if bringing in Poreda would have been a better move. Dunno but let´s hope the O gets a few runs. I hope Becks come sup again and hits another one out!! Go Sox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. That is exactly what the Slayer did, came around on a flat sinker and launched it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!! :headbang
  3. Just an FYI for all, Halliday has given up 2 gopher balls today and looks human for a change. Just sayin he won´t be lights ot every single game, but almost every single game.
  4. I thinnk the theory was was spots 1,2, & 3 were locked up but we wanted to try Colon/Contreras for the 4th spot and groom Richard into the 5th. That was my take early in the season but it has certainly changed and for the better. At least for now.
  5. Yeah, Princess is right basically, another has been off the scrap heap we thought could be more than a shadow of his former self and the last few starts he basically threw batting practice. He doesn´t have anything left in the tank.
  6. People are starting to feel Getz may not be an everyday but I disagree since he is a rookie. He does make good contact and has started to be agressive on the base paths. It is a hard situation to describe this year as to whether we are competing now or building for the future. I tend to feel we are building for the future but if we win the division that will be great also.
  7. I have also touched upon this subject quite a few times (Halliday, or a front line starter) but since the Sox are on a pretty hot roll maybe we should back off tinkering. I am now more inclined to see KW trade for a rental with an option year until the end of 2010 and then see what the potential class of 2011 has to offer (Poreda/Hudson/Shirek). There are a couple rental types out there with option years of some free agents that can be signed for a year. Hard to say now.
  8. As with any trend in modern sports with negative consequences like doping on PED´s, lying about one´s age to clearly stand out as a young prospect to increase the likelihood of a signing bonus and command a higher salary is becoming increasingly prevalent in baseball now. With a new rumor just popping up regarding Aroldis Chapmen´s real age possibly being 26 and not 21 and other similar cases existing should we as fans turn a blind eye to this behavior? I say no as a fan and make the following points: 1. I think the MLBPA (Player´s Association) along with the MLB Commisioner´s office should come down hard on offenders of this nature by declaring them ineligible for a draft for at least 1 year. 2. I also think they should not command as high a salary once deemend eleigible due to the years they have literally taken off their resume and cost the perspective clubs in productivity which is lost. I don´t think it it as damaging as doping but nonetheless demonstrates a lack of integrity towards the sport and more importantly the fan base. Discuss
  9. Even Danks and Floyd have been lights out you gotta mention Buerhle, well he is just havin another typical great year. If they let him pitch the last 2 start before the ASB (I believe on short rest) and he wins both he could have a shot at finally winning 20 this year. Not sayin it will happen but man that would be awesome.
  10. I am trying to spur some debate about either the current roster or within the past 5-10 years as to who has been our best homegrown infielder that had great offensive/defensive fundamentals but did not change positions at all. It seems our current crop (to include 1st base candidates) is very good but most of the 2B/SS/3B players have moved around a lot in an effort to find them the right place to play. Any thoughts?
  11. There are now some rumors this kid may actually be 26 instead of 21. If that is the case then lying is not gonna impress KW or JR in KW´s fforts to get him to approve the finances for a contract offer if we make one. JR I gotta believe would have to approve spending the money. Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/03/sports/b...n%20&st=cse
  12. It seems every young prospect I have read about lately has a ton of upside but is lacking in defensive fundamentals. I am trying to recall the last homegrown infielder who made it all the way through A/AA/AAA ball and to the bis without changing their position.
  13. Remember guys, Cuban ball players routinely have to give up their passports to the government officials that accompany them for such risks. That means for him to set up residancy in whichever country he will do it in is going to be a bit complicated. On top of that the US government will have to clear him to enter the country. This could take until next ST to accomplish.
  14. Mods, can u remove this thread or combine it with Cubano's? he beat me to the scoop. Apologies for the initial euphoria.
  15. I beat Cubano to this scoop and for our Spanish speaking users the link is: http://www.cubaencuentro.com/es/deportes/n...-holanda-190890 It indicates that while on tour with the Cuban National team in Holland Chapman has decided to defect and wants to play in the bigs. Great stuff from this kid, he is 21 and has a 100 MPH fastball!! Plus I believe he has good command of a couple of secondary pitches (To be confirmed). It would be great if the Sox could pick him up via agent Jaime Torres. I think he would be MLB ready in one year. Start him in AAA and season him. It will take all year to sort out the immigration paperwork so I think he will be ready for next year's ST. Go get him KW!! The Cuban Connection ROCKS!!! He is suposed to be either the best or 2nd best lefty SP in Cuba. Will post stats later.
  16. He has extremely quick hands and his swing gets around quickly. I don't think he will get whiffed on many in tight fastballs.
  17. Beckham did really well in the top of the order in AA. I also say don't change what ain't broke. But maybe he will be a good top of the order batter with time.
  18. I am gonna see how Harden and Webb progress in September and then bring up the righty situation again. I think Contreras should do ok for the rest of the year. Good stretch now but if he can give us 6-7 innings it gives the other guys in the pen (especially Poreda) the opportunity to grow.
  19. Jhonny Nunez got promoted to AAA. I see promise in him as a long reliever for the 6/7th innings going into the 8th. Maybe a callup next year. Man the farm is doing really well this year.
  20. Would we take a risk like the Cubs did last year with Harden and pick up a pitcher with arm trouble and an option year left? Similar but different.
  21. Just found this. Webb has been told by 3 specialists that his shoulder does not need surgery by rest and a good rehab program. http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/news/a...sp&c_id=ari Maybe KW looks at him for next year if the Dbacks buy out his option?
  22. I hope to write that kind of research by post 1000 or so. Right now it is basic trades for me but with analysis.
  23. Southsider, I would trade JD for Matt Cain straight up. Not gonna happen but what the heck. May even throw in a AA prospect for SF. Pitcher that is. They can have Omogrosso (AAA).
