  1. Dude you are 100% on the "DUMB THINGS" comment. Man he has got those 2 monstrous sandbags (Rios and Wells contracts) just tied around his neck choking him down every day more and more. Way overpaying Wells and not Doc has easily got to be the biggest boneheaded blunder Ricciardi has commited up to now.
  2. Yeah, and this is the hilarious bit. He is so full of crap JR will be laughing all the way to the bank. He is really badly hamstrung by those 2 monstrous and terribly horrible contracts he gave Rios and Wells for years to come and Doc does way more qualitative production. Anyway we are right to balk at including our future superstar. I will keep saying it, do not mortgage the farm for 1.5 years of Doc no matter how good he is. Especially at the ridiculously pathetic demands Ricciardi is making. They will wallow in 4th/5th place for years to come.
  3. Just took a look (Someone mentioned he was out and he was for all of 2007 so it must have been Tommy John surgery). His control is pretty shaky even from Rookie ball. His K/BB rate is pretty bad. Dunno if he is MLB material with those stats. We have enough pitchers on the staff with control problems. ** JPN ** Did he have control problems or wildness at BHam?
  4. What is the scouting report on Harrell? Power pitcher with plus fastball or middle of the pack pitcher with nice stuff (Good FB plus secondary pitches)?
  5. Why would we possibly want Jerry Owens (THE BUST) the 2nd? I just can't picture this.
  6. It's almost time to put this thread to bed.
  7. I wouldn't do the Halladay deal now but it wouldn't surprose me like others to hear KW has been working the phones and has scouts looking at potential SP's. We can never rule it out. He flies low on the radar and boom, surprise.
  8. OK my bad. That is hwy I am a rookie. LOL
  9. QUOTE Kenny Williams (Chicago) I'm going to surprise everyone and nab Halladay with a package that revolves around Alexei Ramirez and John Danks. Buster Olney (1:18 PM) Kenny -- you are aggressive and you like to work under the radar, but your offer might not necessarily work for the Jays -- it all would depend on how they evaluate Alexi Ramirez. If they saw him as a constant low OBP guy who plays some erratic shortstop, then they'd probably want more than that. Balta, is this quote accurate? Just checked the latest buzz on MLBTR and they have the most current quotes from Olney and they do not mention KW or the Sox. How accurate is this?
  10. I have not seen this but it occurred to me that an under the radar pitcher who will indeed be a Free Agent this year is none other than Jason Marquis!! Having a hell of a year in hitter friendly oors Field and also on the road. Remains to be seen if he shuts down as he has in previous years in the 2nd half of the season. Would he be a good candidate to go after in the off season?
  11. Today was like a day when everything went absolutely wrong for the Sox. Perfect chance for Poreda to prove he belongs in the bigs and he completely blows it. Bad day all around. Oh well shake it off and come back strong tomorrow, I hope.
  12. It also reminds me of the saying I think they attribute quite often to Michael Jordan which goes something like "I can accept failure but I cannot accept not trying".
  13. I hear ya dude but during that tailspin that lasted almost 2 months anything thing was enough to deflate the sails and there were stretches where they just could not flat out hit and looked terrible at the plate. This is the kind of effort that drove me insane because they just could not find the energy to shake it off. I mean it was so pathetic I think I remember counting 9-10 shutouts from mostly 3rd rate pitchers who normally could not hit the side of a barn if it was in front of them. These guys threw batting practice to the rest of the AL but they shut us down. Same story today.
  14. Dunno if anyone agrees but what little I saw of today´s game was the same crap I grew to detest when the Sox were doing that Jekyll and Hyde nonsense of a month ago. They played absolutely terrible today and everything was horrible. Bad pitching, bad hitting, bad defense, bad bad bad!!!!!!!!!!!! They had no energy or meaning today, just plain flat out bad. Hope they bounce back against the Rays.
  15. Anyone know if Carter pitches today or tomorrow?
  16. Is it me or have KW and Ozzie really disagreed a lot this year on player development from AA/AAA to the bigs and Ozzie has been over ruled on more than one occasion? He seems to have been against Slayer coming up and certainly Poreda. But KW won´t over rule him on his mancrush on Wise which is what I don´t get. Not a very clear cut decision making year IMO.
  17. I think with all the other megaposts (Believe me been many many) the odds are better than 50/50 that Doc stays put. They are over valueing their team way more than we are. They key now to continued organizational health financially and performance wise to to keep your best prospects and let them develop. Free Angency is great but the reverse is kinda happening with trades. Teams want more MLB ready talent and under control for 2-3 years.
  18. Beck, correct me if I am wrong in agreeing with you but even with the upside Danks has he is not as far along in his dev as Beckham was to consider throwing him into AAA for a short spell and then the bigs? Think he is at least another year plus away and better suited to start or crack the line up in 2011. A ST invote for next year might not be impossible if he rakes in AA at BHam but that is as far as I see him progressing.
  19. Yup, agree 100% on all points. I think Becks-Alexei-Getz can form a solid infield combo with more time and work together. That is one of the controversial themes of this season but there is sure potential there. Alexei is very acrobatic with some of his range/fielding and if it weren´t for those mental lapses man he would just rule in the field. I think his range is also above average for his position at SS. Don´t wanna part with this infield. Too much upside in my IMHO.
  20. Consider this... 1. Slayer is now batting .296 2. His OBP is .364 and getting better (Doubles, Triples, BB´s sure to rise). 3. He works counts and takes free passes. 4. He sprays the ball to all fields (Note the ball in play chart fro the Cell - I know very friendly park). 5. Downside - FPCT at 3rd base = .913 (Not great but bound to get better). Let the Slayer debate begin!!!!! Mods kindly put this into a Super Thread if it evolves or if the thread exists in some form in another part of the forum.
  21. Everyone agree Becks is progressing well above expectations? If he finishes July on a tear and stays around .280-290 and then kills the ball in August he should get some mention for ROY. Too soon but his plate discipline is getting better and better!!
  22. Becks did really well. As someone else said he didn't try to be a hero in the 8th with a RISP opportunity. Good eye and patience. His OBP is now about .340 I would say.
  23. I've got it!! After tonite's performance this has to be the MOTHER of all trades!! Let's offer Wise for Halladay straight up!! NO way they say no especially if Ozzie is doing the phone call to Riccaridi!! Hehehehe!!
  24. I bet Ozzie would veto a straight up trade between Wise and Halladay if he were the GM with this on the table. LOL
