Maybe this is a tired beat to death horse but I find a small glimmer of optimism that KW may still explore this trade possibility. According to the article below Jed Hoyer is asking for Clay Buchholz and another high level prospect which KW can certainly match in my opinion with Dan Hudson and Tyler Fowers. I still hope he at least explores it. Nick Cafardo from Boston seems to be an honest journalist from what I have read of his articles so this one seems to make sense. Link: http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/arti...call/?page=full Part of Article: GOING NOWHERE FAST Padres, Sox can’t agree on Gonzalez For the moment, discussions between the Red Sox and Padres concerning first baseman Adrian Gonzalez are going nowhere, according to a major league source. And it’s for the obvious reason - compensation. Padres GM Jed Hoyer, certainly familiar with Boston’s inventory, is asking for Clay Buchholz and righthanded pitching prospect Casey Kelly or outfielder Ryan Westmoreland. The Red Sox, at least for the time being, won’t include Kelly or Westmoreland. With former Sox scouting director Jason McLeod now assisting Hoyer, the emphasis will be even more on trying to get Boston’s best prospects. One teammate indicated Gonzalez has made Boston his preferred destination if he should be dealt. But for now, manager Bud Black feels Gonzalez will be a Padre to start the 2010 season. Black said the team and Gonzalez have discussed the constant trade rumors. “You know, he knows. He’s been around long enough,’’ said Black. “He’s been traded a couple times. He’s got a great adviser in John Boggs. I think there’s been enough open dialogue between the Padres’ front office and Adrian. I’ve given him my spiel. I’m sure he’s had some other conversations with players about the whole thing. He’s aware of what’s going on, and I don’t suspect that it will affect him or his on-field performance.’’ Gonzalez isn’t the type to make waves if he can’t get to Boston and has to stay in San Diego and play for a bad team, but don’t expect him to like it either. Gonzalez wants to play for a winner and that seems far in the distance in San Diego. Will there always be a market for Gonzalez? Of course. But the Red Sox, a large-market team, are interested now, and it would be an opportunity lost for the Padres. The Mariners and Mets may also want Gonzalez now. By next year, Prince Fielder could become major trade bait, putting another power-hitting first baseman on the market. And there’s always the possibility that the Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera is in play.

Sorry why does "Cowleotti's" last name get parsed and turned into Cowleotti? A pun on words?
-
Quick question Mods in lieu of the crap Cowleotti wrote and the great effort you guys do in this forum. Is Kenny aware (I'm sure he is so just tell me I'm retarded) know of this forum's existance and does he know we genuinely appreciate (Most of us I think) his efforts as GM? He must think "Wow these guys are really tuned in to what we would want to do for our fan base". Sorry seems like a logical question.

Does anyone think Peavy can be of any influence to sell Agon on coming here? I know he does not have a NTC but just askin.
-
I just sent a form email to MLBTR and Tim Dierkes. He is a Chicago native but I have not gaged whether he leans more towards the North Side or is neutral. Anyhow on occasion he does pull in some factual stuff so hopefully he will reply and I wonder if he will post this rumor on his site.
-
Well any more news from the Score or B&B, or are they the same program?
-
Mods, shouldn't this thread be merged as part of the main Agon thread already going?
-
Anyone wana see Agon´s stats on where he sprayed the ball by park for the last year of two? NL or AL or both?

The thing with this scenario is that hopefully Huddie will have to be one of the main pieces in any trade offer. We still have the soild core of 4 and they with the right offense and bullpen (Big if) should be able to account for 700 innings plus or 180 per pitcher). If you calculate from the bottom of the rotation (Slot 4 going up) that the possible win counts would be 13, 15, 15-17, and 18 plus then you look at a possible (I only say possible) 62 wins which is pretty good and only 25-30 wins away from the hypothetical secure numbers of 88-90 wins needed to win this weak division. I hope in a realistic scenario Freddy would be good for another 10-12 wins which bring it up to 70-72. My point is that if the starting 5 go deep then we can have a good chance of winning. But the line up needs work as does the bullpen. I think if not 2010 then 2011 will be our true win now year.

The pipe dream in this order (Other 1B man mentioned in seperate thread) for lefty power hitter: 1. Adrian Gonzalez 2. Joey Votto 3. Adam Dunn I see Dunn as costing the least in terms of prospects.
-
I have seen some posts on other boards that sacrifice our front four by adding either Floyd or Danks as the centerpiece which to me kills any offer KW makes. Like it has been mentioned you don't subtract from your strength to add a hole to fill. I think the added attendance of fielding a winner for 2010/11 can make up the difference in payroll and add budget for free agents at the end of 2010 for example. It all makes sense from a fan point of view.

What about if it does not kill us what about: 1. Hudson 2. Flowers 3. Viciedo 4. Torres 5. A/AA prospect

Something to consider on the potential trade front.

Dunn's career OPS is .903 which is a bit above your desired range. Thoughts? -

Very good point dude, I missed the boat completely on this. We were just outright terrible on D last year. It was just a thought. -

Not sure if this has been brought up in previous offseason/trade threads but I picked a quick blurb on MLBTR and he had Adam Dunn as a potential power lefty trade candidate. Now his career numbers pretty much match those of Thome at a younger age so I am posting them, pretty similar. Very high K//BB rate but also a ton of power and high OBP. He is owed 12 million for 2010. Anyone think he would make a decent one year rental to look at on the trade front? Career OBP = .383 and SLG = .520 but his K average is about 160 per season and BB is 100. Not terrible but certainly not Pujols. Ad about 34 HR/100 RBI per season. He is more DH material. OK flame away. Yeah but it seems everytime you start a trade proposal with the opposing team's forum they wanna rape and plunder. I mentioned this very idea and they want Gordo right off the bat knowing he is as close to untouchable in the bigs as it gets. I mention Flowers/Huddie but get laughed at also. Just think he would fit in really well with his offense/defense, OBP, UZR, and HR/RBI all point to very productive years at the Cell. -

Apologies for my boneheaded question Kenny but since the category of Strasburg's contract is MLB he does not have pre-arb/arb years? All of these years are guaranteed as are the bobus installments? Which means he will be a free agent after the 2012 season? -

I am curious what anyone/everyone on the board would think would be realistic to propose as a trade to the Pads for Agon? I think he solves our left handed power problems for years to come if we lock him up for an extension. I know he is from SD and loves it there but he wants to win as much as anyone. -

I see both of your points. Agon is a great player with upside and probably behind Pujols and Texiera in the top 3 for 1B. Just a thought, no harm done. -

Do u mean we would need to throw in one quality MLB starter to entice the Pads? Not from the starting 4 in the rotation either. -

I just concocted this trade proposal for the forum: Flowers + Huddie + Viciedo + A Ram for Agon Sounds interesting and it fills some holes for the Pads All to include A Ram have upside and are signed cheaply (Even Viciedo compared to today's rates). -
An Ozzie concocted experiment with a man crush + Dewayne Wise genes + Jerry Owens genes = Alejandro De Aza???? Yeesh already!!

Good stuff Kenny. I don't believe personally Viciedo has a future at 3rd and he will be a 1st baseman or outfield. But developing this coming year will be key to his future. -

Does anyone think bashing/raking the ball in the AFL counts to increase the value of a prospect? I have heard mostly that the thin air makes the ball tend to fly so while the experience is good the value gained is not as good as playing time say in AA/AAA. I ask because if Viciedo rakes does this make him a more valued trading chip since we are on the subject of dangling him in a package for Agon. Also the Baron's field seems to be similar to Petco in that it s not hitter friendly so would that possible fact turn off the Padres to including Viciedo?
