Miracles can happen, Twinkies may consider trading Mauer
chisoxfan09 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
I also feel he signs but the writer thinks there is more to the impasse than is being disclosed. I don't think but you never know. -
Could it be possible the Twinkies pull the trigger on Joe Mauer like they did with Johan Santana? This article breaks down the reasons why it may be in their best interest to explore a trade if he does not sign an extension and reaches Free Agency. Everyone thought this kind of scenario could never materialize but maybe Mauer wants ARod money. See link below: http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/87...?page=3&c=y I think it is somewhat credible due to it being a local paper with a beat writer. Thoughts?

I hope Holmberg improve velocity on his FB and also his secondary pitches.
-
Yeah I don't get that. If he was doing so well why reassign him? Is this normal for young prospects? I don't recall Beckham being reassigned last year. He played the entire ST. This doesn't make any sense.
-
Is Mitchell starting again this week? In any split squad games?
-
Yeah his ERA is a whopping 9.00 now. He will bounce back. GO SOX!!!
-
Carl Crawford in an Interleague game against the Pads at Petco when he drives it deep to the power alley and it carams off the wall on a funny bounce. He wouldn't have to leg it out. You asked.
-
Did he leg out the triple? If he did a good sign of both speed on the basepaths and stamina.
-
I like Santos arm but he could be a good piece of a future Agon deal (I know I know) but who knows.
-
Yup you were right. Threets has a horrible K/BB rate and control issues. I guess another reclamation project for Coop. I know he can´t fix everyone but maybe this guy is another Thorton type project? What is his best pitch? I am guessing power fastball right?
-
Kewl, thanx for the info. I admit I did not see much of Williams last year and from what I have heard his FB oes not have much life. I heard he is a control pitcher. Not sure though. I am going to look up Threets and see what kind of upside he has.
-
Apart from Thorton do you think we will be weak from the left side in the bullpen?
-
Wow, right after we mention Nunez as the only decent piece from Swisher trade he tanks. Oh well.
-
I actually am starting to like some of the effort we are seeing from the Sox in the form of more aggresive base running and hopefully better defense. Still not convinced about the Dh spot but heyit is early. We should start to see some good pitching out of the starters in the coming days. GO SOX!!

ST: Mariners vs. White Sox 2:05 CST
chisoxfan09 replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2010 Season in Review
I was rooting for him to have a decent ST (Still early I know) but man his 2 outings have been worse than his past 3 years, just plain terrible. He won´t even make the Rookie squad with these stats. -

He went 2/3 of an inning with 1 K. Not bad. -
Jared Mitchell is playing like a #1 prospect
chisoxfan09 replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I guess if it came down to trading either JDanks2 or Mitchell I would say JDanks2 would be the one to go in a trade for Agon. Mtchell´s upside is a ton better than Danks. -
He will be 29 this year and if can get back to his 2008 then it would be an interesting idea to look at him in July at the dealine. But he has been hur 2 of the past 3 years so that worries me. He may also be going inot his Arb years as MLB.COm shows his debut in 2007. Would be interesting nonethless and won´t cost nearly as much in prospects as AGon.
-
Even though it was a one time minor infraction against the team´s wotk ethic, you gotta hustle for that kind of money. If this kid is a bust this year then there will be serious calls to cut him. And signing Boras after only one year if true is a terrible move on his part because he has proved nothing yet.

The 2010 DH Slot -- What it is, what it isn't
chisoxfan09 replied to CyAcosta41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ranger, I see your point about a well balanced lineup and it is probably not far from being true that the lineup will actually surprise and hit in the middle of the pack when it comes to power numbers. But I am not sold on the DH by committee strategy ozzie has because of the talent he has inserted (Mandrew Vizquel). I would rather (If it were possible) have a power hitting high OBP guy like AGon because he will most certainly drive in more runs or create run producing opportunites than Kotsay, Jones, or Vizquel. I am not sure of the OBP combined for all three but it is no where near the .400 clip AGon has put up the past 2 years. -
Very encouraging pair of split squad games. The fundamentals part of it really has been good until now. If they can produce runs with solid base running and play good defense that is the majority of the battle. But I can still rewind back to the first 3 months of the 2009 season when we were shut out 9-10 times. It was so brutal!!! Feast or Famine. I am sure no one wants to go through that again!!

DA, I agree with you. The whole premise for the type of haul that the Pads want to begin with is centered on young, cheap, controlable near MLB ready talent. They want good propsects to fill the current holes they have in CF, catching, and starting pitching which would be cheap and under control for at least another 3-4 years. Their àyroll will or might be at a point then to give extensions and arb raises. I still think if KW is patient and see what he has going into the season from ST then at the July deadline he might be ready to strike. But it also depends on how prospects like Hudson, Flowers, Morel, JDanks2, etc perform.
-
So an interesting question, barring any trades to pick up a quality left handed power bat how would a future outfield look like if both Mitchell and JDanks2 pan out? Do you switch Micthell to a corner spot? This would be a good future to bet on only if both develop offensively as well. Unlikely but anything is possible.

Very good story on Mitchell/Pierre mentoring
chisoxfan09 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
I agree about being excited. He does have good tools with regards to seed and possibly contact. If he shows flashes of good plate discipline and contact that should translate into a plus .350 OBP in ST which should be a good start at this level. But I honestly think if he gets lucky and makes it t AA in the 2nd half of this year he is on a good track. -
I would like to see both Leesman and Holmberg perform very well and move up a level to start giving us depth from the left side.
