Well the average is up to .313 and his OBP is now .370 and almost no errors in last 2 weeks. Oh yeah this is getting to be too good to believe. I say at the end of Aug we should definitely know. With his OBP quite good and all the doubles I would not think he needs 15-20 HR´s to ice it.

Would Joe Mauer be worth going after as a FA in 2010?
chisoxfan09 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I only brought it up because of the possible fact that AJ will not be our backstop past next year possibly and Flowers is getting good looks but is still learning the trade. But yes with the injuries Mauer has had maybe being a long term catcher is not wise and DHíng or 1B is better suited for him. -

Those are fair enough reasons to rebut the proposition. BTW I do not consider myself a scrub. Please remember to leave the attitude at the door when entering this forum. Thank You -

No sorry I disagree. This is a Board/Forum for faithful and respectful White Sox fans to share their opinions about any subject that is White Sox. All of us understand the probable impossibility to obtain Joe Mauer for a variety of reasons but if KW has shown us anything it is that when he locks in to a target that he believes will bring us true value he is not afraid to take the risk and invest in that player in whatever way he can obtain him. Nothing more nothing less. That is the fun part of being a fan, the speculation and amateur GM activities. -
Beautox, how about we chase Chapman?

New JPNese, taking suggestions for next week...

Yeah I hear ya. Once they creep inot their mid twenties and the ceiling they reach in only AA then I guess that is literally as far as they can go. Still not a bad living. I wonder if he is making like 200-300K per year as an average MILB salary would be. -

With more money coming off the books in 2010 we could definitely afford him at 7/140 or 6/120. But dont think JR wants to go moe than 5 for any FA. Plus we have our own arb eligibles to consider after next year. That will bump payroll in 2011 by another 10-15 million. Now if we win the WS in 2010 who knows. (Dreamin there but with the front 4 set it is sure gonna be fun). Mauer catching 4 excellent pitchers has gotta be a motivation beyond what other positions offer. I think only catchers can appreciate going out there with a great rotation and having confidence in the picthes that will be called. -

Ah kewl, no worries then. Danman, think he will make it to the bigs next next? Or at least a ST invite? He has done just about all he can at BHam. -

That is one of the reasons I mention this beause as lame as the division is I know for the Twinkies after Mauer and Morneau that is pretty much it offensively. And as one of the best catchers in the bigs well anything can happen when money is involved right? The other huge factor that made untouchables like Halladay consider a trade is the desire to compete and win. I think we now have a better future than both Det and the Twinkies so that in itself is motivation. -
Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter

TB, what does your sig say now? You DODI know crap?? -
The guy is one of the best OBP machines in MLB and is also I think in the top 3 as a backstop defensively. If it even gets this far I think he will wind up making 15-18 million per year as the best catcher on the market. He would round out the lineup for the next 5 years. Too early but what the heck. Sorry should say after 2010. Mods can u change and correct the title??

JPN, maybe not this next time but a write up on Stefan Gartrell would be nice. He has done very well this year and is ready for AAA IMHO. Hope Viciedo rakes tonight. -
Mexsox, where are you from? I am Mexican and was born in Guadalajara. And you? Sorry just saw you were from Baja. I may travel someday to Cabo San Lucas. Any recommendations about this place?

Nah, it's good fun that's all. I started the post 10 days ago and he is still doin fine. Nothing to worry about.
-
Oh yeah forgot to add that both Weiters and Romero aren't doing anything sexy so that is good for Becks. Messed that up Romero is 9-4 with 3.59 ERA. He will give Becks the most competition. But on a 4th place club dunno.

It's been almost 2 weeks and he is still tearing the cover off the ball and average and OBP continue to rise. His defense has gotten noticably better as only 1 error in last 2-3 weeks I think. FPCT is only .938 but if he can improve and finish with say .955 or .960 hey for a rook changing positions that is great. The big factor that would make his push a lot better is the Sox winning the div but don't honestly see that happening. Here's my vote as of right. Another update in 2 weeks.

I have to agree with Jordan on this. The Jekyll/Hyde syndrome this team suffers from and the constant teasing and let downs to me is not a sign of a championship caliber team but one of confusion and no identity. Look we won the 2005 WS with some of this core and frankly we can keep the parts that work and have some servicable time left. The rest as Jordan says need to be changed and what better way than thru a farm system that is on the up and up. I said practically the same thing in a couple of threads. This season based on this lack of consistancy (Only consistent thing is driving the fans crazy with this teasing!) is a wash for me. Not angry but disappointed. We have played almost 2/3rds of the season and I have seen enough to say they ain't gonna get it done, period. If by chance they make the playoffs it will be the same formula as last year (One and done) cuz no other team has the motivation or desire either to win it. So I say let's ride out the season and start in September calling up the prospects based on their AA/AAA seasons to see who can help. My 2 cents.

How could he have been so incrediby boneheaded and thick in a bad economy year? Man this guy is just delusional. Oh well the reality will bite him in the butt when Haladay's trade goes way down. I mean JP Ricciardi.
-
Has anyone noticed Lillebrdge is quietly getting better at hitting at Charlotte? He is up to .287 over the past 2-3 weeks. Not sayin he is fixed but if he finishes the year at .270-.280 and gets a ST invite and does well. Maybe we have another nice option for the infield come next year or a trading chip.
-
I'd rather they stop teasing us and just rebuild for next year. Still got that rotten taste of those 9 shutouts from virtually nobodies in my mouth and that ain't goin away this year with this Jekyll and Hyde team. No chance.
-
I think both Mitchell and Danks should make significant enough progress to surpise us next year with the CF question. I think if they don't get back to winning real soon this season is a wash. But getting the lineup right for next year starts to take on importance now. Not sure if Slayer will stay at 3rd but Alexei is starting to get into his 5-10 game funk where he does nothing and plays bad. This whole road trip has been really bad in general. And don't look now but Lillebridge is playing really well at Charlotte (.287 average). Throw him into the CF mix? I say he is better or no worse than Wise. OK here it comes!!

Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay

Weren't waiting to the very last minute to overwhlem Ricciardi with our SECRET weapon, that straight deal that gets us Halladay for Wise?? :-) -
Yeah but most of us agree that the majority of stuff you hear is crap these writers make up or really is not true.
-
It is pretty much like most trading deadlines. He lays low and then boom he does something. But maybe this year much to our disliking he really is planning for next year. Hard to imagine he is happy to say this team will win the division in it's current form.
-
I still value Dan Haren more than Halladay at this point. But clearly he is about as untoucable as they come. I wonder who Ricciardi was demanding if he did indeed give any demands to KW as ridiculous as they may. I don't blame him for salivating over Becks, who wouldn't??
