Hey Kenny, good perspective on potantial trade material for the off season. I honestly also think (Have said a few times and stand by it) that no way KW listens to JP go on and on about Halladay's accomplishments and then Kenny asks about the negotiatiating window and there is deafening silence on the other side. And I would not mortgage Floyd either. The ball is in Toronto's court because they know they have the odds stacked against to wallow in 4th place mediocracy for years to come. They can listen fairly or play fairly or they can wait it out. But by the same token you are bound to have one itchy finger GM who will pull the trigger, never fails. Doc wants to win now and in our weak division some of the best odds can be found for postseason play and a possible WS ring with the right odds and team chemistry plus luck.

I also agree with a majority of the current posts about the baggage or cost Wells brings. I laughed that is what comparable to the horrible, terrible contract the Cubs are saddled now with Soriano. How can GM do such insane things? I wonder if the market will ever develo with a common sense where you give out contracts at a 4-5 year rate max. Doubt it though. Heck even Sabathia got an opt clause with his albatross.

How good were the breaking/offspeed pitches? I wonder if he really does have anything left in the tank to justify moving back to the bigs.

I submitted a few threads about Haren but got laughed out of the board in a couple of places. But with time every team or GM has a price. Arizona is going no where but things may change next wih Webb back. That is if his shoulder heals and he does not require surgery. Time will tell.

That is another factor and why fans on most BJay boards are goin nuts over losing him (Like we would over Buerhle??). He is literally the face of the franchise. But many ar also saying quite rightly that he has paid his dues and deserves a WS ring before he hangs it up.

Richard looked really shaky, not terrible. But he was not sptting the fastball with any consistancy and hung a breaking ball for a rocket through the infield. If he gets rocked early bring in Poreda to mop up and end this experiment laready. Good grief!!!

I still strongly now see us not dealing for Doc based on the following: 1. The pool of our major league ready or near MLB ready prospects most rumored to be available and possibly interest the Jays just shrank by 1 (Allen trade). 2. Ricciardi apparently insisting on o extension negotiation window which kills our approach (Some say we are also win now, bit I don't see that) to have the solid core until 2012 and maybe beyond. It is gonna get more interesting next week and then the week after.

Evera, I was going to start a seperate thread but remembered this had just been created. What happens to 1B after 2010? Do we resign Paulie to another 1-2 years (2nd optional) if he keeps producing (He will only be 34/35 for those 2 years and conceivably still have some gas left in the tank)? I know Allen was breathing down his neck but there are no clear cut future prospects for 1B hat I know f in the minors. If there are they are not noteworthy. Only other name that was kicked aroundalong with Flowers for DH/1B was Viciedo and that meant a move from 3rd if his defense does not improve. ANyone care to comment on this??

*** Note mark this as the official prediction of this post *** I will have egg on my face if this turns out otherwise. Ricciardi the BJay GM has gone one record via MLBTR thought a New York newspaper that no team will be allowed to have an extended window with Halladay to negotiate a contract extension which to me kills any deal that KW will pursue. I state publicly that KW will not repeat will not trade for Halladay without an extension possibility. As the thread starter I stand by this. To me any attempt to deal with Toronto is dead now. May change if Ricciardi gets between a rock and a hard place come the deadline but I wouldn't pony up our future farm for 1.5 years of Halladay. Like some said better to roll the dice with AA/AAA prospects. Ricciardi knows he holds the chips this early before the deadline but things may change before the 31st. Yasny, just checked on the MLB Sox forum and they have 2 similar threads running and one also mentions Peter Gammons on AM 1000 discussing the White Sox and KW interested but no concrete details. Would be curious to see if anything comes of this. MLBTR does not report any thing concrete other than the Red Sox, Angels, and Phillies are the front runners and the hypothetically Halladay may only be interested in those clubs (Not proven either). We are gonna sleep/breathe/eat Halladay rumors until the 31st or earlier if he gets traded. More to follow.

Man, really good thoughts on this one. Now that the thread has been around for a day I too am of the opinion maybe to not mortgage the farm for 1.5 years of Halladay. That being said nothing is a sure thing with our AA/AAA prospects. But with Egbert/Torres doing well in AAA and Huddie/Shirek developing in AA plus Carter in A ball well maybe we have some good RHP talent for late 2010 or 2011 at the latest. Just seems the price will be too steep and I still reiterate that Halladay would have to sign minimum 2 year extension. Seemed like a great idea when the news hit but with time you always see the other side of the argument. Not tryin to look too far into the future but a future Ace if he continues to rock and has a great 2010 will be King Felix Hernandez of Seattle. Man he will be on every team's wishlist afeter next season (Although it may be the end of 2011, not 100% sure).

Bear in mind one of the caveats has to be a negotiating window to allow KW the opportunity to offer him an extension, 2-3 years. That is a solid return on investment.

I guess my personal take would be an offer of Poreda/Richard/Allen and maybe someone in A ball or Rookie league. But with the caveat that Halladay sign a 2 year extension. But with the right handed pitchers we now have developing in AA (Shirek/Hudson) maybe a one year rental after the season is over (Like Sheets) is worth the gamble.

He seems to be doing well in A ball. Has 106 k' in 90 innings pitched with only 27 BB's. He has gone 7 innings in 3 outings so there is some evidence of stamina. He has a good upside with a good fastball. He also seems to have worked on his control so I wonder if he is ready for BHam? JPN?

JPN, how is Hudson pitching in your opinion with a bird's eye view? How is his fastball and secondary pitches? Thanx

Row, do you agree we gotta ask Halladay for an extension? Or next year if this by some miracle worked?
