  1. Yup, on his last at bat (Believe it was the last) he worked the count and took a BB. He had a good eye as he was 1 and 2 on the count and took one or two good pitches. He is laying off the breaking stuff as well.
  2. Jord you hit the nail on the head that some posters will overlook, which is how much cost apart from talent are we talking about taking on in terms of contract money? Haren is just as good or better than Peavy (Although he did not win the CY Young award yet) but Peavy had the huge benefit of pitching in the cavernous Petco Park. Plus his (Peavy's) contract is very bloated in the last year and he would demand that any team he goes to (rumored) pick it up while Haren's is very very affordable for the talent you get game in and game out. Plus Haren has pitched with results in the AL while Peavy has not and the jury is out as to whether he is willing to. All great points.
  3. Yeah exactly what I thought as I posted this. Their only really glaring need may be (I stress may) to replace Papi at DH with another left handed bat. But we really don't have anyone like that except for Thome who is older and has maybe 1 more year left in the tank. The only power bat we could think about without a trade clause is Dye plus another prospect but with most of our AA/AAA players having good to very good years I am hesitant to hope this happens. But it is really starting to come into the forefront that in the SP arena we need another RHP. Preferably either Ace or no 2. Hence my other thread about Harden or Webb. Fun stuff this virtual GM'ing.
  4. He has been very impressive in AAA but most boards hae the Redsox not dealing way any of their prospects. His 2009 stats are very good but he had a bad run at the end of 2008. Any thoughts? 2009 Season Team League W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG PAW INT 5 0 1.90 12 11 1 1 0 71.0 42 16 15 7 17 65 1.35 .165 I for one think a change of scenery would do him well and he is publicly kinda stating he wants a shot in the bigs but with the logjam the Redsox have it is gonna be real hard for him to get called up. I think they need a power bat so could any discussion start with Dye? Mods move this thread to the right forum if not in right one.
  5. JP, it is possible to get the Barons games overseas on a live feed? If not do you know which local affliate carries their games? I checked out the MILB subsciption but didn´t see many AA games and definitely no Baron´s games.
  6. JP, what kind of corner defense did Gartrell play? Was it adequate and did he get good reads/jumps on fly balls? I saw his lefty/righty splits and he does mash lefties quite a bit more than righties.
  7. Have you praticed fndamentals such as bunting, drag bunts, and watching the pitcher´s motion and delivery when on base to get a good read and jump?
  8. I threw up aHaren package thread on another forum to Backs fans and most said what the majority here commented on which is he is untouchable. For those who did reply positively they said any package would have to include Beckham and at least 2 MLB ready pitchers. So to sum up they want a ransom for Haren which I think we would be unwilling to pay.
  9. Beckham is really getting comfortable with his zone and also not chasing ba pitches. He is now at .200 and I see a very nice summer for him really learning to hit AL pitching. His OBP is gradually rising and may be above .300 by the end of the month, hopefully. Or at least in early July.
  10. Buerhle had a really good outing. Has anyone come across a recent article where he is finding the strike zone with less frequency this year? I read somewhere and will try to post the link. I wonder if he will beome like Tom Glavine and rely on off speed stuff in the coming year and nibble on the corners with excellent control and working fast counts.
  11. I just read a link on Cubano´s blog (In Spanish) that Torres the agent for the 19 year old potential FA pitcher Noel Argüelles is now ready to start a legal war with rival agents who have induced Argüelles to fire him and sign with them. I can imagine Torres´frustration as he has done all the background work to get these kids immigration paperwork ironed out. This kid would be a good pickup if we could ever swing it as he has a 90+ fastball and good control. Don´t have any statistics but I saw on a couple of forums elsewhere that he seems to have put on wieght. The Yankees are favored to be the leaders in signing him but who knows. Will more than likely be next year as Cubano posts on his blog before any of these 3 players are ready (There are 4 but the 4th is a SS psospect of which we have tons).
  12. Does anyone think KW would seriously pursue him after next year? Or will the Twins lock him up to a long term extension sometime next year?
  13. Just saw where Josh Beckett is dominating again and got excited cuz I thought he was a FA this year, nope after 2010. Wonder if he is not traded by next year´s deadline if he will be pursued by KW? He will only be 31 in the 2011 and may have a good 3-4 years left. He would be another good candidate to anchor the rotation but we should have some of the right handed guns coming up after next year.
  14. Alexei just smacked a 1 out double for an RBI and 10-7 lead, he is just rakin this month and now gettin back in form. This rules!!!!!!! He is up to .262 and OBP shoul now be around .335.
  15. Little late to the party but Becks got his first HR! Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!! Also Alexei just jacked one out and his BA is now almost 260 with 8 HR´s. Looks like he has had a fantastic June. Keep it comin Missle!!
  16. Fernando Hernandez mopping up. He has 11 saves but this is not a save situation. JP is he on track for a Charlotte promo??
  17. Kewl, Hudson really shined in his debut tonight. Beginning of 2010 sounds rather quick. Maybe AFL after the season and if he does a ST invite. Kid is only 22.
  18. Marty he is only 25 this year so if he makes the bigs by 26 I consider that a late bloomer. There are a few cases. Ryan Howard comes to mind. Hopfully he will continue to rake and get a chance in AAA and maybe a Sep callup. It is not out of the ards as this is kinda a rebuilding year.
  19. I think of all the Barons he is ready to jump to AAA and then possibly a Sep call up. He has been very solid the past 2 years with an average of 12-15 homers (This year he can reach 20) and possibly 100 RBI´s. HIs average has hovered between 260-280 all year and his career average seems to come in at about 260. Not bad at all. JP how is his defense in RF? Is he a possible replacement for Dye in 2011 or do we try him in LF if CQ does notheel properly. He seems to have a pretty decent OBP (330-360) and I think has a quiet demeanor. Thoughts
  20. Yup, this link is from the offical DBack MLB site and pretty much sums it up. Webb is now back in Arizona and will get an MRI and possibly a second opinion on shoulder surgery. He may as noted be pretty much done for this year. That voids the possiblity of KW exploring a trade for him. Oh well good starting pitching this year is really hard to come by via trade or even free agency after the season. Most of the type A/B starters all have ailments and even Halliday has been put on the DL. Harden has really blown lately so that takes the gas out of the other option I mentioned. Wish Arizona would fall so far down they would consider parting with Haren but that ain´t gonna happen. We will just have to see how the team records develop and how the buyer/seller markets shapes as a consequence. http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/news/a...sp&c_id=ari
  21. Does he have good location? I really hope based on your first comment about his slider down and away and that potentially his FB has heavy sink this is a very good arsenal to take to AAA at some point. The sinker if it is heavy will be excellent at the Cell and at Charlotte (Both hitter friendly). Wonder if he has any offspeed stuff or how is his curve? Sorry just excited about Nunez since he came over. I know you are not too high on him but he has had a great year in rellief. I saw a video on Youtube of him working the count on Matt Laporta and it was only from a high up behind home plate angle. His delivery is a bit awkward.
  22. Nunez was pretty much lights out last night. JP did you see the game? He picked up the win in relief of Harrell. 2.2 inning of 1 hit ball and 6 K's. I wonder if he is for real and the Sox can call him up next year after maybe the rest of the year in AAA ball. I for one feel if he pitches the next 5 weeks at BHam the way he has been he will be ready for Charlotte. He could be the middle reliever (7th/8th innings) for the Sox sometime next year. Good to have a good number of hard throwing righties to work with a various levels. Maybe his confidence has changed for the better with this change of scenery. I wonder if he is in line to be looked at as a starter again? His WHIP is excellent based on his K/BB rate. I am starting to think he may be a diamond in the rough who is getting better and better. JP how high has his fastball gotten on the speedmeter?
  23. Could anyone imagine Scott Boras trying to be the agent of the some of the up and coming Cuban propsects once they are cleared as Free Agents? Good Grief!!!!!!!!!
  24. Good write up on Holmberg. Looks like he will be a control lefty. Innings eater and good command. He may need to develop a good off speed pitch or breaking ball. Author really is impressed with his maturity and command of fastball (high 80's with potential to hit low 90's in 2-3 years). Good curve as well. http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/Articles/Dis...spx?article=704 Maybe a 4/5 starter for 2012?
  25. BWebb threw a side session yesterday and is now expected back in early July. I wonder if he will just make the window for 2-3 rehab starts and maybe 1-2 starts before the trading deadline? With an option year relatively cheap I wonder what kind of package the DBacks would want. Would need a medical certificate and MRI on our side to make sure there is no permanent damage but hey he could be the right handed frontline compliment to Buerhle taking the pressure off of Floyd. Could you imagine? 1. Webb 2. Buerhle 3. Danks 4. Floyd 5. Poreda/Richard/Contreras (Minus whichever of the two young lefties you package for Webb). Pretty sick rotation for next year at least.
