  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Carlos Quentin stats for the SEASON 131 453 73 110 217 doubles 25 triples 2 homers 26 RBI's 87 50 3 83 2 2 .243 .342 .479 .821 0.80 Me thinks you try and analyze too much and see only the black cloud of despair. CQ has a ton of talent and was coming back around last year after those injuries. harness that drive he has and we will see a 30-40 homer 100 plus RBI man again. Be patient instead of calling for the beheading of every player who has an off year at times. I'm holding off on making any predictions until right before the season starts, alot can happen between now and then.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Good luck Bobby. Thanks for the memories. Bobby joining the ex White Sox brigade in Boston with Randy Williams and Clevelan Santeliz. Best of luck Bobby.
  3. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Oh yeah, I've definitely got nothing against the 1 year, that's probably the best he was gonna get anyway, it's the $1.5M that's bizarre as hell. I mean, let alone the fact that he had better offers on the table with better teams, he could EASILY have leveraged a little more money out of the Cubs just based on the competition for his services. Whaaaatever, it's all his prerogative. He could've gotten more from alot of other teams, he was damn good last year for the Yanks.
  4. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) WTF? 1.5M, really? Wow. Okay, it's your career, Wood. As I said in earlier posts, I like 1 year deals for relief pitchers so I think this is a great deal for the Cubs. That being said the salary thing is fishy. I wonder if the Cubs and Wood came to a gentlemen's agreement where if Wood pitches good this year, they'll reward him next offseason when they have 50 mil coming off the books.
  5. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) Really? His peripherals were quite good last year. He just didn't strand many runners. Unless the pitcher is an elite closer or elite set up man with a history of sucess, I've never been a fan of multi year contracts to relief pitchers because they can be so inconsistent (Linebrink). The type of deals I like for relief pitchers are the 1 year deals like last year's deal with Putz. Therefore if they flame out or are not worth the money, you are off the hook the next season. Sorry I got off topic but I like the Jenks deal a little more, 1 less year and Jenks has a better history of success then Crain. That being said, it doesn't mean that Crain will not be good for us.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Best part of the whole deal IMO. Kenny scored here I think... He better produce for that term and those numbers. I don't want Linebrink part 2.
  7. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) +1. A rotaton of a HEALTHY Peavy, Burls, Danks, Jackson and Floyd is nasty with Freddy as a backup plan. I suspect if they move a SP, then they think Sale is ready to start and that would necessitate adding another reliever in trade. I'm not counting on Peavy at all, anything we get from him will be a bonus, I wouldn't mind if KW can find a taker for him because if he's not the Jake Peavy we traded for then he's a very very expensive, non elite pitcher. I applaud KW for getting him but I doubt we'll ever see the 2006-2007 Jake Peavy.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) And compared to some of these other deals, that's not a bad deal at all. Pena had a bad season last year, but prior to 2010, some predicted he'd be in line for a monster deal this offseason. It's a one year deal that keeps them alive to try and get Prince Fielder next offseason when they're able to get some of their big deals off their books (Fukudome, etc). I was looking over the team payrolls at that Cot's contracts website and I think the Cubs have over 50 mil coming off the books next year then another 40 mil in 2012. Not sure what the FA classes will look like the next couple of years but they will probably be a bigger player then. However Soriano's contract doesn't end until after 2014, man that's bad. Sox have 30 mil coming off the books next winter with Thornton, Buehrle, JP and Jackson being FA's. However with some guys due for raises (Thornton, Alexi, Danks), the Sox will probably be less agressive next winter so this is pretty much a go for it year.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) If this means the Cubs use Wood as an 8th inning reliever instead of Marshall, then this is a dumb signing for the Cubs. Wood/Marshall/Marmol is a decent 7-8-9 staff. If I recall aside from Marmol and Marshall, the Cubs bullpen stunk last year. Say what you want about Wood but this improves their pen. Now I'd like to see us grab one more relief pitcher.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) ALL IN, BABY!!! Going to have to find someone else, Dave Kaplan just reported on his twitter account that Wood and the Cubs are close to finalizing a deal. I think Kaplan is a blow hard and can't stand him, but he's never been wrong when it comes to breaking Cubs news. It's also up on csnchicago.com
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) That's my thinking. Leaving RF and 3B out, the Sox were above average at every position, in my view. Certainly improved from recent years. And Teahen isn't starting at 3B, so there will probably be an upgrade there, and Quentin, I hope, isn't in RF. Congrats to Mark.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) While the news is optimistic, I remain pessimistic. Anything the Sox get from Peavy now is just a bonus, I don't see him being the same pitcher he was when he won the Cy Young with SD in 07. Just too many injuries.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) JJ Putz Johnny Damon
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) If Jim Hendry is fired, he ought to be fired not because of what he did pre-team selling, it should be because of what he does after the team was sold. They won a couple division titles, sold out the park nearly every game, established methods of increasing revenue to high-demand games like the ticket brokers, etc. Now, his job is to rebuild and clear salary while still trying to put together a winner, a harder task. However, his team got on a roll at the end of last year, they have an interesting manager, and they appeared to flash some serious young talent last year. Cubs are probably 2-3 years away from being a real contender again. However Bruce Levine just reported that they're preparing to make a serious push for Adrian Gonzalez. That's a move that would speed things up.
  15. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) If he has a detached muscle he will likely be out for the rest of the year This doesn't sound good at all.
  16. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) Can anybody explain to me how the Cardinals are in a position to add $15M to their payroll for 2011 & 2012? I don't think they can. They still have to sign Pujols to a long term extension along with Carpenter, Molina & Wainwright in 2012. They're not in the best of shape for anything past next year. Any guesses on what Pujols' next contract will be?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 14, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) Salary savings and a role for Flowers. This team is an absolute disgrace.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) I despise David Kaplan. I hate him more than Mariotti. Dave Kaplan is a total blowhard, I can't stand that guy. I don't even think Cubs fans like him. Total horses ass.
  19. I will admit that it's early and I'm not totally counting the Sox out but if they can't get going soon they'll be toast.
  20. My brother is a big Cubs fan and he said as some others that their woeful bullpen has cost them a number of games. Their starting pitching has been pretty good and hitting wise they're streaky both ways. From what i've seen I like Marlon Byrd and I think that Colvin kid has a chance to become a decent player if he ever gets a real chance.
  21. At this point I wish the Cubs would've gotten him instead of us. What a bust so far this year.
  22. Milwaukee is going to want starting pitching for Prince considering theirs is God awful, even Gallardo isn't what he used to be. In my honest opinion I think its going to take Floyd or Danks. You also then have to take into account that Fielder is going to be up for a big time raise in a couple of years. I don't think it's worth it.
  23. The Brewers pitching is terrible.
  24. No way. This guy is a giant dooshbag. It's only a matter of time before he does something stupid in Seattle.
  25. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) wade is kind of a combination of both. He put this team together, he wasnt forced to field it in order to lose. and yes, Feliz is a dumbass, he cost the Astros that entire inning Their bullpen is bad but Marmol has looked pretty good so far, if his control can stay consistent he can be a good closer. FYI, the Astros are terrible.
