  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:56 PM) I disagree. As I said the wins don't matter. However, build ing arm and body endurance is important. For the Sox to be a successful team they need him to be pitching as much as possible as he is the best pitcher. Totally agree. That seems to be the plan and I like it. Does anybody think Hawk is right when he says that baseball will eventually head back to 4 man rotations, considering today's pitchers are bigger, stronger and more athletic than their predecessors? That makes sense at a purely physical level but I wonder if the current investments in these pitchers prevents that from ever happening. I'm sure there are some good points for both sides.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Seems like the Sox are dead set on developing power hitters. They must feel that it is the hardest thing to obtain in either free agency or the trade market and are working hard to find some through the amateur ranks. No other real explanation I can think of for all of these plus plus power, minus hit tool types. That's an interesting point. You could argue they would want to steer away from that concept after all the corpseball years and the more recent deathball years. Like you say, power is a premium now that PEDd are being flushed and pitchers are really starting to dominate. I hope we end up at some hybrid of the two.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) If nothing else, the K's should be there against the Braves. Yes we couldn't ask for a better setup. Some young, struggling free-swingers and the easy 3 pitcher outs...NL scouts get to see how he fares against a potential playoff opponent. C'mon Jake!
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) I'm of the theory that as long as a guy is conditioned for it, this isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be. It is just like training for a marathon though. You don't run the 5k and then go out and run the marathon without additional work. You have to be trained to go that distance. It seems like the Sox are conditioning their pitchers to be on the higher end of that pitch count number by giving them that sort of workload. So no you don't have Sale as a guy who regularly throws 100 pitches, and then run him out there for 130. But if he is being conditioned to be a regular 120 pitch guy, that is fine. Unless there is a mechanical issue that causes injury, I am not convinced this is such a big deal. Man it would be cool to be a fly in the room when they all get together and discuss these things. It would probably blow our minds hearing the amount of analysis and hard work that goes into making these decisions.
  5. Plus the Orioles have to figure he will be useless in the late innings of playoffs. He's an automatic out to the majority of LOOGYs and good pitchers in general.
  6. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) He looks a lot better at the plate than he has in a while. Im confident. He has a beautiful finish to his swing when he's right.
  7. Man this thread was just what the doctor ordered. We should all be ashamed of ourselves. The harvest is indeen plentiful but the workers are few. Thanks man!
  8. Same spelling? Such a different meaning lol. I knew it looked retarded when I wrote it. What about wreckloose?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) I think people are missing the most obvious thing about the pitchers, it is Don Coopers world, not Venturas. It was the same with Guillen. Yes. It's definitely a collective strategy. Everyboy is definitely on the exact same page, and it ain't Ventura's page. If the upper brass wants some changes then they will instruct RV and staff to make said changes. The idea that RV is a rebelling reckloose openly defying management's wishes regarding Sale's pitch count is crazy.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) Lol, what? No, I'm not trying to suggest that. I'm just saying that RV works for the FO. So if the FO has a problem with what he's doing, they can tell him to stop. So, most likely, they don't have a problem with it. Less likely, they do have a problem with it, have told RV to stop, and he has refused. Because most of the time, people do what their bosses tell them to do. When they don't there tends to be very obvious friction and controversy and someone gets fired/traded -- like Ozzie. Lol totally. I feel like we're in a crazy house man! Why the hell is this not the consensus opinion? This shouldn't even be debatable.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 03:14 PM) Acting like the manager isn't the one who decides when pitchers come out and go into the game is idiotic Again, everyone knows that man. You're really gonna sit there and tell us all that the White Sox as an organization haven't spent time deciding how to best use their only superstar? You're gonna continue to get mad at RV for pitch counts and cite some Busch-league dusty baker opinion as evidence? If you don't think it's a collective strategy then what the hell do we even have a FO for? Go ahead and get mad at the FO but don't point it all at RV like he has the all the keys to the car.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) I'm glad we have someone who posts here who is privy with how all of the Sox FO meetings go. Sweet. That's not my point at all. Why would you say that? Acting like Chris Sale's pitch count is up to RV is insane.
  13. Did hawk just nickname drop Big Kahuna for Phegley?
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Nice to see RV still has Sale in there over 120 pitches. Stupid and completely pointless. He's done an awful job managing our pitching staff. The comparisons some have made to Dusty Baker are extremely appropriate. Dude stop. You act like Robin and the entire front office haven't done their diligence when it comes to using Sale. Allowing him to throw 120+ is a COLLECTIVE decision. They've ALL decided it's ok and they all are familiar with the Dusty Baker argument. It's a very very very SIMPLE argument to make and takes no insight to make. None. Everyone is aware of that line of thinking.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Depending on what happens the next three weeks, it would be nice if he can bat 2nd or even 3rd for two months. If they're going to give him a sizable extension, they should be able to lean on him for production at the top of the lineup. For sure. Gotta make sure he has gotten over mental midget syndrome. Plus I don't think waiting is going to cost us much. Like Peavy, he knows he sucked and we stuck with him. It'll be a fair deal for both if it happens.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) Throwing 110 pitches or more in 8 of last 11 starts isn't helping Maybe it's not hurting either.
  17. Who's gonna pitch for the cubs in 2017 when that lineup is in the majors? They have tons of money so I guess that's the answer. I think Castro and Baez are busts...rizzo might hold his own. The lower crop looks pretty good though. I like our position way better.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) That's it though. He's been fine. I'm not going to get excited about that. C'mon look at that k:bb and tell me you don't feel a lil tickle
  19. Jerksticks replied to flavum's topic in FutureSox Board
Micah Johnson and Marcus Semien are 1 and 2 as far as position prospects IMO. Mike Trout and Mike Trout lite, respectively. Trayce Thompson is a total non-prospect in my book. He eats terds.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:30 PM) Very well could be Agree. Also, if we trade Peavy I think I'd want pitching in return, a couple young RH guys with top of the rotation stuff. We still need a cornerstone hitter but I think a top RH starter is just as important moving forward. Maybe EJ is the guy though; I wish we knew how confident the FO is in EJ going forward.
  21. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) It offends me as a fan to have him in the rotation. Exactly. It was a give up move from the get-go. Throwing that junk off the plate to Hunter. Like hunter is gonna chase his slow junk bulls*** off the plate. He's an insult to the talent he throws against. Man I wish he didn't infuriate me like he does.
  22. It sucks giving up before the game starts. Tough to swallow every time I see this jackass is pitching.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 05:22 PM) Sure Ken. I would love Mike Trout on my team. Seriously, short of a young cost controlled player on the verge of winning a MVP or Cy Young coming back, you have to be retarded to trade him. Haha totally. Prospects? Are you ducking kidding me here lol. I'd need at least 8 jurickson profar level prospects before I even listen. Plus what a nice message that sends to our young guys: Sign a team friendly contract and we'll send you packing to a destination of your not-choosing for the next 7 years. GMAFB even discussing this like it's smart or even plausible.
  24. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) They've been healthy for two years in the regular season under Thibs. They got the one seed both times. They made it to the conference finals in his first season with a pretty young core and no shooting guard. I really don't know how you can come to the conclusion that the Bulls will never win because they lost in Thibs' FIRST season as head coach in the conference finals and then Rose tore his ACL. Does anybody think Rose can come back as a better player and stay healthy? I wonder what the FO thinks. Because if they do they should do everything in their power to upgrade Boozer and back up Jo. Title. BAM If not then shiiiiiiiiiit, I dunno.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) Figuring out how to deal with increased media attention/fan hordes for Phegley. A la Nomo-mania or the beatles I feel like if Kaner's mullet walked into the clubhouse, Phegley's would smack it across the face and tell it to go back to Buffalo.
