  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) We can hope that Anderson stays and Wise goes, but I kinda doubt that happens. Actually, I'd be good with both of them going, and giving one of the outfielders in AAA or AA a shot instead. But Wise is the worst of all options for 4th OF. As bad a hitter as BA is, Wise is worse, and is a far worse defender. I would argue that Wise has had a very good year defensively. He's shown good range as evidenced by the play he got injured on. I really don't see what makes Anderson stand out as a better defender, they've both been pretty good throughout their careers. In addition, Anderson's terrible offensive numbers become even worse with runners on. Here's the stat that makes me want to vomit, Anderson's been up 14 times with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 out. Of those the run scored 4 times, unacceptable. Of the two, I for one would rather have Wise, but like most everyone else, I'd like to see both gone.
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 11:56 PM) Alexei is batting .272 with 10 homeruns at the halfway mark and grades a D? Tough crowd. And how does Linebrink who has a 2.05 season ERA get a lower grade than Dotel who has a 3.23 in the same number of innings? Because he's had a few tough outings recently? And Danks and Floyd are significantly better than league average ERA... how come they grade a C? I agree 100% with this post, and how could anybody imply that Linebrink perhaps deserves a lower grade? One more thing, how does Jimmy Gobble not get an F. Josh Fields has been a disappointment, but he's certainly done some positive things for this team at times, Jimmy Gobble has not. LMAO at Jimmy Gobble getting the same grade as Alexei, come on now.
  3. Standout Cuban pitcher Chapman defects Sounds like he got roughed up a bit in the WBC, but is only 21 and throws 100.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) what are his splits like? Will we see Ramon again? It appears that Castro is catching for Contreras, nothing more. It's just a coincidence that he faced the lefty last night.
  5. Awesome, good work...thanks
  6. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) college is basically professional everyone knows shaq got rich playing in college Your sister's goin out with.....SQUEEK!
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 11:30 PM) I was chattin' with some Cubs fans at a bar just a few hours ago. I was wearing a Sox hat. So it wasn't hard to put two and two together. They asked me "How the hell did your GM swindle not one but two all-star caliber pitchers for crap?" They were obviously talking about Danks and Floyd. It was kinda strange. We tend to take our own team's players, managers and GM's for granted. But when you hear fans of other teams talk about your GM in that way, it's a good feeling. I hope KW is around until he simply wants to quit. He's earned that and then some. This is very true. I remember bein pissed when KW traded away McCarthy for Danks, but its turned out great (although Mccarthy's pitching decent in TX which is tough to do), and sox also got Griffey for Masset last yr. and he was key in the playoff run, and Garcia for Floyd, absolutely brilliant. I'm with you, the good decisions made by Williams have far out-weighed the bad ones, he's awesome.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) I would had still let Castro hit there. It was obvious Lou was going to the pen anyways. AJ can get into one vs lefties, but he is very incostistant. Come on, if Castro hits into that DP, there's no way in hell anyone would have been ok with him batting there.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) I would think Castro can hit RHP/LHP but of course Ozzie favors that Lefty/Righty tendency as usual. Batting AJ there was a no-brainer, it's easy to second-guess now.
  10. This thread is ridiculous. It's one bad outing. The only reason this team has been able to stay afloat is the outstanding bullpen, and Scott Linebrink has been a huge part of it. I can't believe how quickly everybody turns on a player. This was a tough loss and I'm as pissed off about it as anyone, but I have no doubt Linebrink will bounce back and I sure as hell don't want him sent down (which will never happen but has been suggested) or traded away for cents on the dollar.
  11. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) lol what was that Contreras? what a hack that was. Hey at least he wasn't scared like a lot of our hitters have been in that situation. Was pretty funny though now that 6 are on the board. Great inning.
  12. Peavy out Sox could be dealing with this on top of everything else.
  13. Any word yet on Paulie for this game?
  14. I'm not convinced at all that Figgins will be with the Sox next year unless he can be had relatively cheap. With all the talented young hitters in the system I'm convinced that the Sox will look to spend their money on a proven starting pitcher. Their pursuit of Jake Peavy backs this up. I see the lineup more like this. Danks CF Ramirez SS or 2B Quentin LF/RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Beckham 2B or SS Fields/Viciedo 3B Cheaper FA perhaps Randy Winn LF/RF With Contreras off the books it could give the Sox a chance to go after Brandon Webb or Erik Bedard and have a scary rotation. By the way, do whatever it takes to extend Matt Thornton.
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 11, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) cry me a river. How do you figure he's crying here? To me, it sounds like he had the meeting he was looking for, he didn't hear what he wanted to hear, but has decided he's going to take it like a man. Would you rather he say he's happy to be sitting on the bench? I wouldn't.
  16. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:09 AM) No, he doesn't. He dips his head several inches when he swings, which opens up a ton of holes. I hate to be pessimistic, but you most likely just saw his scouting video today and know next to nothing about him, so being "extremely pissed" is pretty laughable. Look, it's great that everyone here is following the draft, but let's be honest with ourselves, none of us are scouts. It's silly to be worked up about this because none of us has a goddamn clue about who is better than who because anyone can read BA and watch advanced scouting videos. It's simply asinine for anyone on this board to say such and such a team had a better draft than us because you simply have a limited knowledge of something that teams have put thousands of manhours in to. Save yourself the disappointment and wait a year to start handing out grades and complaining. Great post, and please people quit ripping on the Mitchell pick before he even takes an AB in rookie ball. Just because he played football in college doesn't make him Jerry Owens for Chrissakes. If I recall correctly, Frank Thomas played football in the SEC. How'd that turn out?
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 10:38 PM) Pods is an adequate lead off hitter, and Anderson is a horrible hitter. Dont get head of yourself anointing Pods some sort of offense juggernaut with his .298/.338/.379 line(i think at least .350 is what most clubs are looking for) and a OPS+ of 86, just because you can compare him to someone who's bat has no place meaning in the majors. I agree, and Podsednik doesn't wet his pants every time he comes up with RISP. Christ, talk about costing your team games, how about leaving guys on base (and usually with less than 2 out). I can't remember the last time Anderson even made contact in an AB during a scoring opportunity, and it seems like there have been a lot of them for him lately. Pods definetely isn't my first choice when these situations come up, but Anderson may as well not even bring a bat up there.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) A producing Josh Fields makes us a much better team. +1 Over the past 12 games Fields has played in, he's raised his batting avg. by 40 points. Nobody else has really been producing all that much offensively except for Pods, and the Sox have won 9 of those games. I haven't been able to catch every game (with the damn WCIU games and Fox deciding to show the Twinks game here) but I can't recall any defensive miscues in that time either He was probably the player of the game last night. I say lay off Fields for awhile, he's playing great right now.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 04:27 PM) Any manager forced to use a starting line-up of Scott Podsednik, Brian Anderson and Jayson Nix would be driven to drink, clearly. What starting outfield have you seen in a boxscore WORSE than that one in recent weeks? I can't think of any of the top of my head. How about Podsednik, Anderson, and Wise?
  20. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ May 30, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) Why would the Astros take less for Oswalt than the Padres would for Peavy? My understanding is they're not as financially screwed as the Padres, and hence, wouldn't be as desperate to dump Oswalt's contract. In fact, I don't really see why Houston trades Oswalt at all. I mean, when people were discussing fire sales two weeks ago, I doubt anyone here thought we should trade Buehrle. It's the same situation for Houston. Probably because Peavy's a better pitcher than Oswalt is
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 15, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) This will give us a couple of games to try Lillibridge in right field. Hilarious. I say just plug him in at the 4 hole too, seems about right.
  22. I agree that the Sox can't start talking about trading everyone away just yet. The Sox are 2.5 games back (big deal). The Royals are coming back down to Earth, Dontrelle's back getting rocked in Detroit, the Twins have no bullpen (besides their closer of course). It's gonna warm up and the ball will start flying outta the park. Dotel and Linebrink have been phenomenal. This team is very fortunate to be playing this badly and be in the situation they are.
  23. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) Defensive stats aren't really as useful when you're not talking about nearly a full season's worth of innings. But they are somewhat useful when stats from one partial season are consistent to what that part-time player has done throughout his career.
  24. Actually according to baseball-refence.com Dewayne Wise has been a plus defender throughout his career (including 2008), and Anderson has been about average according to their calculations. Wise's total fielding runs above avg. was 4.0 and Anderson's was -1.8 in 2008. In 5 years in the outfield, anderson is .5 runs above average, while Wise is 9.0 runs above average in his 6 seasons in the outfield. I know everybody's gonna jump all over this, but it's statistical analysis. I think Dewayne Wise is a lot better out there than people give him credit for. I actually voted for Terrero, and got to thinking that Wise really hasn't been that bad. I got curious and checked out the stats, of the ones I checked out, Wise and Erstad were the best according to those numbers. By the way, Swisher is atrocious (-14.8 last year) and Ryan Sweeney is also below average according to this analysis.
  25. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) 8- Ramirez 9- Owens 1- Lillibridge right now that has to be the worst 3 in baseball. Although Corky's performed well to this point, you may as well add Miller and Anderson to this list and call it the worst 5. In fairness, they did have to shake things up some tonight, the past two games have been unwatchable.
