  1. Cortes was made expendable due to an arrest last week in Arkansas...
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Take Wakefield off of that list immediately. There is absolutely no reason to consider him as a Cy Young contender. I just use the guys off the CYP. It's not personal preference. Thursday... Halladay: L #3, 7 innings, 9 hits, 3 runs (earned), 0 walks, 8 strikeouts, 0 home runs. ERA up to 2.85 Hernandez: W #9, 8 innings, 3 hits, 1 run (earned), 2 walks, 7 strikeouts, 0 home runs. ERA down to 2.53
  3. Tuesday... Buehrle: W #9, 7 innings, 3 runs (earned), 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 2 home runs. ERA up to 3.14 Beckett: W #10, 6.2 innings, 6 hits, 2 runs (earned), 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, 1 home run. ERA down to 3.62 Verlander: W #9, 6 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), 0 walks, 11 strikeouts, 1 home run. ERA up to 3.59 Wednesday... Greinke: L #5, 6 innings, 7 hits, 3 runs (earned), 2 walks, 9 strikeouts, 0 home runs. ERA up to 2.12 Wakefield: W #11, 6 innings, 10 hits, 3 runs (earned), 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, 0 home runs. ERA up to 4.31
  4. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) This tracker is pretty accurate: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/features/cy Yes, that is where I get the "CYP" category from.
  5. Monday... Millwood: L #6, 5 innings, 9 hits, 9 runs (earned), 3 walks, 0 strikeouts, 1 home run. ERA up to 3.34 Weaver: W #9, 7 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 1 walk, 9 strikeouts, 1 home run. ERA up to 3.15
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) For a very reasonable price too. That was a damn good extension for Soria. Barring trade, (and I wouldn't rule that out at all from what he can bring in) he'll be giving the AL Central fits for years in the 9th. Automatic. The Marlins inquired a week or so ago, they were told he is not available.
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) Soria to the Yankees in 2010/11? He's signed thru 2014...
  8. Jacobs' first homer in over a month. I'll be f***ed.
  9. Of course I trash Bloomquist batting 2nd all day, and then he does this to me...
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) That was a team led by dos Carlos (Febles/Beltran), Jermaine Dye, Johnny Damon, Sweeney and Randa? The Royals did have the likes of serviceble starters like Suppan and Miguel Batista blow through town, but this is the most starting depth ever... Any rumors about Teahen, Meche or Guillen (and I would imagine patience is growing thin with Jacobs, too) being traded in June/July. Heard Braves were interested in Guillen, maybe that trade would be for Francouer and a quality prospect, with the Royals dumping a big salary at just a 700 OPS and questionable clubhouse leader for the future of the franchise. That's the Royals in a nutshell...players like DeJesus, Berroa and Febles looking like stars (and Jose Rosado, too), then disappearing almost...although David D. has been at least an average or above average player his entire career, not so much in 2009. Mike Sweeney: .333, 30 doubles, 29 homers, 144 RBI Johnny Damon: .327, 42 doubles, 16 homers, 88 RBI, 46 stolen bases Jermaine Dye: .321, 41 doubles, 33 homers, 118 RBI Joe Randa: .304, 29 doubles, 15 homers, 106 RBI Mark Quinn: .294, 33 doubles, 20 homers, 78 RBI Carlos Beltran hadn't hit the scene yet, although he did contribute some. DeJesus hadn't made his debut yet. That team scored 879 runs, but gave up 930. The pitching staff had one guy with an ERA under 4.00, just one: Jose Santiago (3.91). Suppan was the only pitcher with 10 or more wins, and he was 10-9 with a 4.94 ERA. The entire bullpen combined for 29 saves. Miguel Batista only started 9 games, only pitched in 14, had a 7.74 ERA. The 2000 Royals went 77-85. Teahen is the only one I can see being dealt, but with Crisp out and Gordon coming back, I would not be surprised to see him stay and be moved to left, DeJesus back to center. I'd take Francoeur for Guillen and however much cash the Braves want.
  11. Show me any team that is still competing after losing their starting 3rd baseman, shortstop, centerfielder, and closer. Anyways, interesting on your '00 team and their record against the Royals, but that 2000 Royals team scored a ton of runs...
  12. Well deserved. I hope Dye will take Hamilton's place as well...
  13. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) bloomquist has played well against us this season...it'd be nice to see the sox make a deal for him before the trade deadline and would make our bench that more versatile He's a nice player, but I like to think he'd be a lot better and more useful if he weren't playing every day...
  14. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) I guess we can celebrate Scott Linebrinks new found 97 mph fastball. Woo Hoo. Sure, it's off from time-to-time, no different than any other radar gun at any other stadium. They aren't 100% accurate, but you make it sound as if it is off for every single pitch, and that is simply false. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) As for the powder blues, not a big fan. I think the Royals should go with a complete overhaul of their current logos and uniforms, and start up a new look. Maybe throw a crown onto the hat. I don't completely disagree, I think they should sport the "crown" logo with the solid royal alternates. The Royals have 4 different jerseys, and 3 of them say "Royals" across the front. Either make the powder blues the road alternates and have "Kansas City" across the front, or do so with the royal blue ones. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 02:46 PM) We need to be taking advantage of Minny beating up on the Tigers, when we play teams like the Royals. After today, the season series will either be tied, or the Royals will have the lead by one game. Can't remember which.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Royals' gun always has been 2-3 MPH fast. I think it dates back to the MacDougal days when he was routinely throwing a legit 97-99...fans love to see that 100-101 on the board, just like Tigers' fans with Zumaya. Clayton has been a legit 92-95 this season, sometimes touching 96. False. Stop spreading misinformation as if it were fact. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) I love the Royals powder blues. They took a while to grow on me, wish they wore them on the road instead of at home...
  16. Clayton Richard (3-1, 4.48): has been nearly lights-out against the Royals this season. Following two scoreless relief appearances in which he allowed 3 hits in 5 innings, Richard got a start against Kansas City. He allowed just 2 runs over 7 innings, while giving up 5 hits, striking out 7, and walking 1. He is 1-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 5 games (2 starts) against Kansas City during his career. Brian Bannister (5-6, 3.93): was shelled in his only previous outing against the White Sox earlier this season. On May 29th, he gave up 10 hits and 7 earned runs over 5 innings. He is 2-4 with a 8.15 ERA in 10 starts against Chicago during his career, but is 3-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 7 home starts this season.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) We know Aviles' story well here, of course. No D-1 offers out of high school, went to a small college where he ticked off some folks by predicting as a freshman he'd take an upperclassman's starting shortstop job*, national player of the year by his senior year, and rewarded with a $1,000 signing bonus from the Royals that was so small Aviles doesn't even remember what he did with it. Aviles then spent six years in the minor leagues, more than 2,500 plate appearances, with only one of what you could fairly call a down season. The Royals saw nothing in him.* They made him start at Omaha three straight years, baseball's version of, "Well, she's got a great personality."[/b] QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) 7th rounder with only a 1,000 signing bonus? Sounds like quite the overdraft. Yes, those were the days of ownership not spending a dime, and Allard Baird as our general manager. Very little came from his drafts. Aviles and others were offered the $1,000 take it or leave it. Ownership and Allard Baird are the reason we have almost nothing in Double-A or Triple-A. All our prospects are in the lower levels, and they are all Dayton Moore draftees. I like Aviles, but I question whether he'll ever see a Royals uniform again...
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) The gun in KC is probably 2-3mph fast. The gun has been the same for our pitchers whether we were in Kansas City, Los Angeles, Oakland, Chicago, etc.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) holy sh** ESPN isnt even on this yet http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4306275
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) It just felt weird to see this team down late in the game. I just can't stand Alberto Callaspo. He's killed us at least three times this year. His defense has killed us more than that. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) Beckham. He slays. Get it? Good. I thought there was more to it. Lame.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) You've been waiting for days for that, haven't you? I guess you don't get to do that very often. Every time we see Gavin Floyd. Season series will be 5-6 after this...
