QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 05:46 AM) Wasn't Michael Aviles an undrafted FA? Or you're referring to another player? I know he was really defensively-challenged at SS (arm/range) but he had a heckuva season out of seemingly nowhere and destroyed the White Sox single-handedly. 7th-round pick. And his defense was a lot better than he was given credit for.

Gavin Floyd (6-5, 4.12): has faced the Royals twice this season, going 12 innings, while giving up 12 hits, 8 earned runs, striking out 11, and walking 4. The White Sox have lost both games. He is 1-4 with a 4.35 ERA in 7 games (6 starts) against Kansas City during his career, and 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA in 3 starts at Kauffman Stadium. Luke Hochevar (3-3, 4.96): has not faced the White Sox this season. He is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 4 games (3 starts) against the White Sox during his career. Luke is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA in 4 starts at Kauffman Stadium this season, including an 80-pitch, 3 hit complete game against Cincinnati. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) I know that it's KC, but we beat up Zack Greinke tonight pretty well. He usually doesn't give up 4 runs in 6 innings... The offense is doing enough to win and the pitching is spot on. Now that we got Greinke out of the way, we should expect a sweep. A few Sox hit him well, Podsednik, Beckham, Pierzyski, Konerko. His defense sure didn't do him any favors... QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) Two more good pitching matchups coming up, nice! KC's got some decent pitching, but they have no hitting and no fielding, and I question most of the players baseball IQ. Moore better get his s*** together. I agree 100%. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) The Royals took Alex Gordon in the 2005 draft instead of: Ryan Zimmerman Ryan Braun Andrew McCutchen Lance Broadway Chris Volstad Jacoby Ellsbury (so did we) Colby Rasmus (so did we) The Royals took Luke Hochevar 1st overall in 2006 instead of: Evan Longorgia Clayton Keshaw Tim Lincecum Max Scherzer Joba Chamberlain (so did we) So, it's the front office there that's the problem. Dayton Moore didn't come to the organization until after the 2006 Draft. He had nothing to do with either player being selected. Gordon was a local kid, lifelong Royals fan, and as poster said below, would have gone top 2-3 no matter who was picking. Hochevar was picked due to signability. With Gordon being drafted the year before, no reason to take Longoria. A lot of scouts were scared off by Lincecum's mechanics. Kershaw and Scherzer also fell due to signability. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) Gordon woulda gone top 2-3 no matter who the team was, he was a stud coming out. And I think he still can become a very solid player with the royals, or perhaps a different team. At the very least, he's a .260/.350/.430 hitter who can knock out 15-25 and drive in probably 80+, and from what I've seen, he's turned himself into a very solid 3B. Granted he some of the players took after him have turned out better, he's still a solid player. I'd take Alex Gordon in a heartbeat if we could. Good stuff here.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) I was quite surprised at how bad they were last night. Terrible approaches at bat, terrible base running, terrible fielding. They are just a bad team. You shouldn't be surprised. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) I bet Callaspo could be had for cheap tomorrow. That was a real bad mental error. He does it often. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Greinke at 2+ ERA for the first time all season... Even 2.00 on the season now... QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Grienke is done for the night! The offense is coming around nicely as we have put it on both Cliff Lee and Zach Grienke in the last few days. It is amazing how we struggled against Chen, but just kicked Greinke around the park. Only 82 pitches too. I guess they decide not to overuse a starter for once. Podsednik and Beckham had nice gap shot doubles, Konerko with the opposite field bloop, and Pierzynski with the homer. I wouldn't say they kicked him around the park, just read his fastball well. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) Here's one more for ya... Greinke soon to be 5-9 career against the White Sox, which is the most losses against any one team he has in his career so far. Yet he's 4-4 against the Sox since he's been back. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) Royals had one good month where everybody got excited. Now they are wondering if the team will keep losing at this alarming rate the final 12 weeks. I won't be surprised if they do. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) They need to stop wondering. Just look at their everyday lineup. Disgusting. Exactly. Too many below average players on the roster. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) They have a couple guys (Including Gordon) coming back from the DL soon that will help. We've only got Gordon, Buck, and Farnsworth coming back. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Yes, but they had Aviles, who is out for year and Gordon who had hip surgery. Also Soria was out a long time when all the losing started. ALso Crisp is out for the year and John Buck got hurt as well and is out. This is true. Sadly, I had no faith that the game wasn't over when Pierzynski made it 1-0 with his homer. This "offense" is a complete joke, and the "defense" is almost as bad. -

He left a tie game after 7 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned, 0 walks, and 7 strikeouts. The bullpen went on to lose the game for the Royals. He is 2-0 in 3 starts (1.23 ERA) against the White Sox this season, and 4 runs (3 earned) in 22 innings, while giving up 17 hits, striking out 24, and walking 3. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Should be a nice series Mileage. You, benchwarmerjim (Twins) Jacktai (tigers) etc.. I personally love other posters from different teams here. Really knowledgeable stuff you guys bring. Not the usual "dumbass virus/hackjob poster." Makes ST that much better than any site IMO especially considering we definitely have the most overseas posters around. Thanks! Mark Buehrle (7-2, 3.26): is winless in two starts against the Royals this season, but has allowed just 5 runs in 12.1 innings, while giving up 13 hits, striking out 9, and walking 3. The White Sox won both games. He is 19-8 with a 3.48 ERA in 40 games (38 starts) against Kansas City during his career, and 9-6 with a 3.68 ERA in 19 starts at Kauffman Stadium. Notables - Willie Bloomquist: 11-for-22 (.500), 1 double, 1 triple - Mark Teahen: 20-for-47 (.426), 7 doubles, 1 home run - Billy Butler: 8-for-26 (.308), 2 home runs + David DeJesus: 9-for-59 (.153), 1 double, 1 home run, 1 walk, 9 strikeouts -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:23 AM) How long until Alex Gordon comes off the DL? I thought this was going to be his breakout year He'll be in Omaha (Triple-A) Friday, and NW Arkansas (Double-A) after that. Due back after the All-Star Break. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:36 AM) Didnt he have the same hip surgery ARod had? Yes. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:22 AM) Have we seen him before Bruce Chen (0-1, 5.68): will be making his second start for the Royals. In 6.1 innings at Pittsburgh on Saturday, he allowed 7 hits, 4 earned runs, walked none, and struckout 2. He is 0-1 with a 5.66 ERA in 6 games (2 starts) against the White Sox during his career. I'm actually confused as to why DeRosa has been considered as such a great option, yet Teahen has not... Mark DeRosa: 34 years old, right-handed, makes $5.5M, free agent after this year... Mark Teahen: 27 years old, left-handed, makes $3.5M, free agent after 2011... The only clear difference is RBI. You can blame that on the Royals crappy "offense"...

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) Why am I not surprised to not get a Royals update from High Millege after the Cardinals swept them? I love how Trey Hillman came out and said they were going to pitch to Pujols and Albert absolutely crushed them. I don't get e-mail notifications from this site and the search function doesn't work, so I don't check in much. And yes, Hillman was stupid for pitching to Pujols. Hillman's days are numbered...
