  1. QUOTE (TheCut87 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) I was talking about taking a chance on him before the trade deadline ends i think if he is dealt it will be before the tuesday not during waiver period...if it is just fluid build up and the MRI was good to go, would KW trade for him now hoping this issue goes away in a week or two now knowing that he can get him possibly cheaper That's a good idea. Worth looking into, but I doubt Theo will let him go for cheap considering he can just wait until the off-season. Also, probably bad PR to get trade raped by the opposing Chicago team at your first deadline.
  2. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) I personally trust KW, our scouts, player development, talent evaluators, etc we have in place with in the organization to make player decisions. They have had a damn good track record since Buddy Bell came in and our current ML roster shows that. With that said I also trust their assessment of a player when determining if he is replaceable going forward. Look at Sergio, people were flabergasted when KW traded him for nothing. And they guy hasn't pitched since April. Let them do their jobs. We have multiple closers on the team now and I trust them to find a replacement if need be for future years. Again do you want to take a chance and be a part of another deep run in October, see a trophy lifted in the middle of US Cellular field, a parade with 2 Mil people in the streets of Chicago. Or do you want to worry about what could happen next year and in 2018 next year. Cause the difference is, the Chicago Whitesox go for it, year in year out. The Chicago Cubs wait till next year and worry about next year in July. Me, I prefer to be a Sox fan. Go get em' Kenny, worry about next year in November with another ring on your finger. I think we already are "going for it" but trading for Peavy and Youkilis, signing Rios and Dunn, resigning Konerko and Danks, etc etc I could go on and on. That is going for it, not completely f'ing our future for a 3 month rental who doesn't seem to want anything to do with you. I understand he will pitch for whoever acquires him, but just realize after the season is over, he is gone and Reed is going to be the Brewers closer for the next 5.
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) Makes sense, the Brewers have major bullpen issues right now. Reed can fill a HUGE void for them longterm. I like Reed but if it means bringing a top notch starter to this team- DO IT! I disagree. 6 years of Reed closing for us is not worth 10 starts of Greinke who has publicly said he doesn't like our ballpark and didn't list the White Sox as a preferred team he'd like to end up with. Beyond that, by losing Reed we hurt our bullpen badly, so the advantage of acquiring Greinke is mitigated.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) If the Sox traded huge pieces of their future for someone like Greinke for only and year and a half of his services, and then traded him away for an underachieving starting pitcher with one year left on his deal and an underachieving second baseman who's a possible non-tender candidate, I don't think anyone on here would be happy. This pretty much sums up my argument on why the Brewers would be ridiculed for getting Floyd and Beckham.
  5. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) I understand your point, but he's not asking for prospects who are years away, he has been asking about guys who are pretty advanced. Mike Olt is 23 and mashing in AA, Julio Teheran and Delgado are in Triple A and the Majors respectively, Jean Segura and Garrett Richards of the Angels, guys that are going to contribute next year and be cheap and under team control for 6 years. Floyd is a good pitcher, don't get me wrong, but he's inconsistent and was made very available in the off-season and nobody traded for him. How has his value increased since then? Egg on my face if Floyd is dealt for Greinke, but I don't see the Brewers doing that. And I should add, I would be ecstatic if Floyd was the centerpiece of a Greinke deal, but as I said, I think the Brewers would be laughed at if that was their main return.
  6. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:48 AM) good post, i agree with all of it. melvin said he has no desire to move hart or aram so that tells me hes not looking to rebuild It's not rebuilding, it's reloading! Haha
  7. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) Again I disagree, if you're Houston, the Cubs, Miami, KC, Etc. You want a teams best prospects so you can build in the future. The difference is Melvin doesn't want to rebuild he wants to make trades to help the the team continue to win now and next year. He doesn't believe he needs to blow the thing up. Not to mention they have to keep the team competitive when you have Ryan Braun manning LF. IMO I think Melvin wants players back that have ML track records, players that help the ML team, and players he has control of. Yes TEX, ATL, LAA all have better farms but ultimately I think what brings ZG to us is our willingness to include the likes of Gavin and Gordon. I think that is why we saw LAA pull out last night, they have great prospects but backed off at the price. If the price was steep because of prospects involved the Sox wouldn't still be in the conversation at this point. I understand your point, but he's not asking for prospects who are years away, he has been asking about guys who are pretty advanced.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) IMO yes they have shown interest. I don't know for sure about right bow. But a year or so ago the Brewers wanted Floyd+Beckham+ Spects for Prince Fielder. They have been known to have an interest in both players in previous years. I would assume they internally want to turn GB back into a SS, and like Floyds stuff in the NL. I also think Melvin is interested in ML ready players in exchange. People he can plug in and know what he is getting, instead of gambling on a teams prospects who are great minor players. I think that type of package may be a backup plan for Melvin, but I can promise you if the Braves include some of their pitching prospects, or Texas agrees to include Olt, they aren't passing up on that.
  9. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) I like the idea of Floyd/Beckham for Grienke/Weeks. I don't think it's enough though. The Sox would have to give up something else. I know Floyd is the popular name to throw around as far as trade rumors go, but has Milwaukee shown any indication of wanting him? Everyone they've asked for is a top prospect, not Floyd/Beckham who are underachieving major leaguers who are probably never going to hit their expected potential. If this deal goes down for the Sox, expect it to be guys like Keenyn Walker, Trayce Thompson, Scott Snodgress, and a young valuable big leaguer like Quintana, Jones, Reed or Viciedo. Those guys have lots of team control, actually have potential and are cheap.
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 03:47 PM) So Zach Stewart scratched.. YES PLEASE
  11. QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I think it's time for Lillibridge to find work elsewhere. Total waste of a roster spot. And to think that, according to a random Jon Heyman tweet, the Mariners wanted to pay dearly for him in the off-season and we wouldn't part with him. Classic sell high situation
  12. Why?? Why are we trying to steal 2nd down by 2?? Especially with Lilli, he couldn't steal a base if he had a ski mask and a glock
  13. f***ing Rios. Should be two errors, one to drop, another to allow him to advance to 2nd
  14. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) Sure but the people who want a full rebuild make me laugh. They have no time table and no idea what damage it will do to the franchise. Exactly. We are not the Cubs, our fan base would not financially support a completely rebuilding team.
  15. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:17 PM) I laugh at those people anyway. No idea what they were getting into. I wouldn't mind shedding dead weight if we are completely out of it, but we actually have a fairly young roster.
  16. Crain's stuff is filthy tonight. I wish he was protecting a lead
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) How long before the rebuild crowd comes back? TRADE PEAVY FLOYD THORNTON AND ERRBODY!!
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) Why, exactly did the Yankees give up on a 22 y.o. (now 23) who'd been pretty successful at every stop? His stuff's not spectacular, granted, but still kinda weird. Was it a situation where they couldn't protect him due to roster space? I've wondered this myself. Nice pickup by our scouting department
  19. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) lulz http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2012/1/29/2756...m-dunn-mlb-2012 MAKE THIS HAPPEN
  20. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 24, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) Source: Prince is very close to a nine-year contract with the Detroit Tigers, according to sources. NO WAY Start rebuilding...it's confirm. 9 years 214 million
  21. Source: Prince is very close to a nine-year contract with the Detroit Tigers, according to sources. NO WAY
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) Realistically, what would you like to see Kenny Williams do the rest of this off season? Any more players need to be traded? Any cheap free agents out there would taking a chance on? Trade Gavin and Thornton if the return is good and sign Solar and Concepcion. The emphasis this off-season was young pitching and I think that is going well with Molina, Castro, Webb, and Jaye (plus those minor league pitching contracts early on). I think the return on Floyd and Thornton would at least equal that list of talent and then Soler and Concepcion would be the cherry on top.
  23. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 20, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) I would love to see them signed, perhaps their contracts can be signed in a such a way as they dont count for 2012 major league payroll, perhaps if they are signed the white sox have to move someone to stay withing budget, but I am sticking to all signed point for $100M. If they move someone in the meantime and get below, like Thornton or Floyd then so be it, but my claim is that they have $100M set for payroll expidenditures this year. Jerry Reinsdorf has expanded the payroll before and gotten burned, so I think you are right. If the Sox sign Cespedes i'll be very surprised, I think Soler has the better price tag and fits our off-season direction of getting younger. Wouldn't be shocked to see Floyd or Thornton go along with a Cuban signing.
  24. QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 19, 2012 -> 04:12 PM) I would be willing to bet my life savings that the sox will open this year with a payroll right around $100M, give or take a few million bucks. Every single thing any representative of the sox, or any writer, or any move the sox have made all points to one direction, a lower payroll of around $100M. There is no one else to move, there is no one else to acquire and we are at $103M like I said. The sox have lowered season ticket prices by about 20%, usually we see ticket price increases/decreases proportional to the amount at which payroll increases/decreases. There are no indications to think my statement that keys in on a $100M major league payroll are erroneous in any way shape and form. You can wait for official word and opening day reports, and Ill use intuition, logic, and facts to deduce a reasonable answer in the meantime. You do realize we are at or very close to 100 million now and are in talks with at least three expensive Cubans right?
