  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) I read somewhere that either a city or state is trying to pass legislation to make this an illegal practice. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/obama-...-191042168.html
  2. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:54 AM) Someone I knew from my high school (just knew of him) died in a car accident today (well, Monday). Just weird to see that someone so young (20 yrs old) can be taken away just like that (car accident on the way to school for him). I found out easy it is for somebody to be taken away when I was in 5th grade. There was a kid that was a grade below me that got hit and killed while riding his bike to school one day. I didn't know him personally but he was a friend of a friend. It was so weird during recess that day. Basically the entire 4th grade class just walked around the playground with their heads down.
  3. Insignia is Best Buy's "store" brand. We got 2 tube TV's that are both Insignia. They both still work but they show everything with a green tint. That started happening about a year after we bought them. I don't know if their LCD TVs are better but personally I'm staying away from that brand.

Why the hell doesn't FX have any episodes of Sons of Anarchy on their website? I've actually been recording each episode to a DVD-RW (I don't have DVR) and when we finally had time to sit and watch the first episode the disc kept skipping. Now I have no chance at catching up at all this season.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Didn't know where to put this really, but it's finance related: http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/21/pf/cost_ra...child/index.htm Holy balls kids are expensive. We've gotten off pretty light on childcare costs as we've always had family members to watch our kids but the cost of just getting them registered for school every year seems to keep going up. That doesn't even include money for lunches, field trips, workbooks, etc... Plus now my oldest is starting to get into driver's ed, class rings, homecoming dances...
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) Look, if Konerko wants him back that says a lot. No, it just says that he helped Konerko. He may not be the right hitting coach for the other hitters on the team. Didn't Frank Thomas have a personal hitting coach that he used that didn't work for anyone else?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 07:15 AM) Glad to see it only took 30 pages, but you finally came to your senses. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 08:28 AM) We can't get another 12-15 pages out of this topic today? QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 20, 2011 -> 08:38 AM) What makes me laugh (or cry) is that the past 12 or 15 pages were consumed by one argument. I only show 6 pages in this thread.
  8. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) im sure management was making him play dunn. they know hes done so why not just release him? because the money. not becuase ozzie I just can't imagine how that conversation could have possibly went. I mean did KW really go to Ozzie and say "I'm going to go to the media and publicly say that you need to play the best players no matter their salary but in reality I want you to continue to play Rios and Dunn even though I know they are statistically the worst 2 players in MLB right now. They cost way too much to just sit on the bench. They need to be on the field even if it costs the team wins."
  9. I swear I've booted up in safe mode before and it allowed me to complete bypass the password.
  10. We have officially become "permanent" campers rather than just week-enders at our campground. We signed our 1-year contract on Saturday and parked the trailer later that day. The contract technically doesn't start until October 15 but we can stay there from now until then and not have to pay for it. Even better since it's the end of the camping season, there are plenty of people leaving or changing sites and trying to get rid of stuff they no longer want or need. We have one couple that has offered us a deck and another that offered us a metal shed. I also might be able to make a trade for an electric lawn mower that I can just leave at the campground. In my new shed of course.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) The examples you used are specific instances. Maybe they aren't always like that and they do have some friends. AJ is just a mean, surly person. He is like that all the time he is not pleasant to anyone. He would be my vote for the meanest jerk in baseball along with Bonds and Gary Sheffield but they aren't active any longer. I've never personally met him but I would not have guessed that based on everything I've seen, heard and read about AJ. He's made a few funny commercials. He was part of the "3 stooges" along with Rowand and Crede in 2005. IIRC, they were Joe, Row & Po. I know he can get under the skin of opponents when he wants to. He's the guy where you say "Yea, he's a jerk, but he's OUR jerk."
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) If you think the new manager is going to sit Rios and Dunn, bless you. They will play every day. You're only 1 of 2 people I've heard out of 4 different message boards that thinks this.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 11:50 AM) First Tiger. Oops. Missed that part.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) ChuckGarfien Chuck Garfien Justin Verlander is 1st Tiger to beat White Sox 5 times in one season since Roxie Lawson in 1937. (Elias) I can't believe any of the Twins pitchers from the past 10 years haven't done it at least once. I would've thought Mays or Santana had done it.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) I definitely can respect your guys' opinion on Ozzie not playing the best players. I agree DeAza/Tank are much better options than Rios/Dunn. I'd go with answer B, but not as forcefully stated as you put it. More like KW just said that, when both he, Ozzie and Jerry know you DO play the guys who make that kind of jack. This has to be an act right? You can't seriously believe this. You're just doing this to get the responses right? Right?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) My elementary school principal used to give us the "I don't know, can you?" anytime people asked improperly. I still remember that to this day. I used that line on my kids once and they had no clue what point I was trying to make. Teachers must not use it anymore.
  17. 9/11/01 - Attack on twin towers. 9/11/09 - Last day of my old job. 9/11/11 - My uncle passed away. I'm really starting to not like that date...
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) Garbage trucks, for example, lift the cans for the garbage men now...the cans are also 100x lighter, and no longer need replacement due to rust, etc... Our garbage men still lift the cans into the trucks. Then in the winter when the plastic gets really brittle, they slam them back down and break them. I've had to replace 2 already. This whole conversation reminds me of the scene in Office Space when Peter is talking to the 2 Bobs. "You see Bob, it's a problem of motivation. If I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime."
  19. I've always thought it's better to start the year off a little slow and build your average up as you go. It really sucks when you start really good and end up with a high average that you'll never be able to maintain. When I got my 300, it was the first day of the season. I ended up with a 232 average. I think I ended the season closer to 180.
  20. This team has been a big pile of #2 all season long.
  21. Soxfest was always a good time back when it was affordable.
  22. I was at work when it happened. Throughout most of the day I got all of my information from the internet and the radio that we had on in the background. I don't even think I got to see much video of it until I got home. We didn't get to leave early and I even had to work at my second job that night from 6 to 10:30. I remember in the days that followed how weird it was to look up and not see a single plane in the sky.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) I don't watch it but it always bothered me seeing clips/commercials of these guys and they look too unrealistic in my eyes. I'd envision a biker gang looking much dirtier and extremely tan and leathery skinned. These guys look a little too clean. EDIT: Just look at that picture a few posts up. Do they get their jackets dry cleaned each week? It happens I guess. Same reason there are cavemen with perfectly straight and white teeth and people that live on deserted islands that weigh 300 lbs and never lose any weight.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) Hour and a half premiere tonight. My wife is upset because Jax cut his hair.
  25. It might be because it's an indoor sport and nobody wants to do anything outside when it's below zero with the wind chill. You don't really have to be in shape to play it, and you can drink/socialize at the same time. My wife usually bowled on a league with me and she went mostly for the socializing. The actual bowling just got in the way. FWIW, my best score is a 300 which I got when I was 16. Haven't had one since. The closest I came was a few years later when I got 10 in a row but messed up on my second ball in the 10th frame. Then I blew my 800 series when I got a split in the 10th frame of the 3rd game. Ended up with a 791. I've also recorded a 0 game when I was like 6 or 7. They didn't have bumper bowl back then.
