QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 13, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) Do you mind if I ask why you don't move? There are multiple reasons. One of the biggest is that our house would never sell in the shape it's in. We just gutted and re-did our kitchen and put a new roof on but there is a long list of other things that are falling off or falling apart and need to be fixed/replaced. Another thing is the cost of living in Rockford is really low. If we moved any closer our cost of living would increase. Plus my wife would have to find a new job because we couldn't survive on my salary alone. Then there are other things like being close to family & friends, our kids really like their schools, etc... It's something we may think about more a few years down the road after the kids graduate and the house repairs are done.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Holy s***. Yea, that's usually the reaction I get. Rockford is just not a technology-oriented city.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) After rereading this I'm not sure that I'd even say that. It might come off as "this guy might leave us for something as trivial as shaving 15 minutes off his commute". I'm 2 hours 1-way on a good day. Between 2.5 and 3 on bad days. I think it's a pretty good reason. If I could find a place that's only 1 hour away, I'd be happy.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) For sure. With each interview you get more comfortable and can refine your answers. I was never able to come up with a good way to say "I am horribly underpaid and I want more money" when they asked me why I wanted to leave my current job. I'm pretty sure I blew one interview because of it. I had actually gone through 3 people already but the last guy I talked with seemed stuck on the question. I couldn't come up with anything because I actually really liked my job. I was just horribly underpaid. Luckily I don't have to worry about that anymore. Now I can just say I want a shorter commute.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Oh, I realized that, but I thought since he put "these two people" that he didn't recognize James Earl Jones. Is that scene from Coming to America? Yes.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) LOL, I think you are missing the whole "Twice they played the characters of African Royalty" angle that Iwritecode is referring to here. That's exactly what I was trying to get at. Kind of an interesting fact IMO. I also mentioned to my kids that James Earl Jones was also Darth Vader.

My daughter just started watching our Lion King DVDs again for some reason. I'm assuming she saw the commercials on TV because they re-released it in theaters in 3D. So I was checking out IMDB and found this out for the first time today. The voice actors for the King and Queen in the Lion King were done by these two people:

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Heh, I have family that lives there. They went to.....Windsor HS? They live in either Loves Park or Machesney Park. There is a Winsor but it's an elementary school. Loves Park and Machesney Park are both part of the Harlem School district. All the kids end up at the same Jr. High and High school. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) I was at Maple and then Machesney... you had to actually "find" it on the computers, but it was good s***. You must be younger than me then. Machesney was Franklin Jr. High when I was in school. Maybe we did have it on our computers and I just never played it. I know we had games on the computers in the back of the classrooms but I didn't mess with them much. I remember the big saying back then was "r-u-n return."
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Your school did suck. Must not have gone to Harlem! Actually I did. Loves Park elementary too. I have no idea how I missed this game.

I've always been under the impression that they try to adopt out the animals as long as they aren't aggressive and/or sick. Although we rescued a cat out of a tree in our yard one day and had animal control come and pick him up. We found out later that they put him down because he had a "sinus infection". He sure as hell didn't look or act sick when we gave him to them.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) This quitting on the team is bulls***. He quit, what, a day before the end of the season? More like a year before his contract ended.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) And lets be honest, Oregon Trail was a great game. My school must have sucked. I've never played this game.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) Not that there's anything wrong with it. Of course.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) Yeah, I suppose...it's not even so much an issue of me not being confident enough, I just hate dealing with swarms of dudes all the time...ahh, the life of a single guy... Taking this sentence completely out of context without reading any of the other posts...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) Alternatively, don't have a FB profile at all. Actually, when used properly it can be a helpful job search tool.

It's a relative term. He's still he youngest right? The average age for a MLB GM is probably 50 or so.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) With that in mind, would you be against a training class in firearm use being a prerequisite to gun ownership? Makes sense to me, and I don't think it would really be an inconvenience to someone that already knew the basics of firearm safety, but I'm curious about what others think. Should probably be more than just "a" class. Look how much training is required to drive a car. I bet I could potentially kill just as many people with that as I could with a gun.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2011 -> 01:38 AM) I laugh cause I hear it all year about Ozzie's decisions, but now that everybody's watching these games, I get to FINALLY hear people bag on managers not named Ozzie. Pretty much every team in MLB has a message board somewhere. Check them out sometime and you'll see that all the teams have fans that complain about their manager. I'm sure you could find lots of Twins and Red Sox fans that think their managers are the worst ever.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) The problem right now comes from the sheer number of people looking for jobs, including those that currently have jobs. In the case of those that are already employed, many accepted jobs that pay less than they're worth or were initially seeking (employers market), but took the job anyway so they'd have some sort of income. Many of those people continue looking for a better opportunity, which keeps the number of people seeking employment very high. Again, this keeps the market in favor of the employers, which is somewhat of a negative snowball effect. I think this may be part of it too. I can almost guarantee that I was turned down for some openings when I was unemployed because they knew I was going to leave the second I found a better opportunity. I was basically applying anywhere and everywhere. Even when I knew I was way over-qualified for the job.

I'm still waiting to find out what happened with Joe and the girl he was texting back in July.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) A short term DL stint for a problem associated with his mechanics? Come on man. This is like Stras blowing his elbow out. Yeah, it was sad to have it happen, but you had to know it was possible. IIRC, Coop tried to get him to change his mechanics so he wouldn't get hurt later. Peavy didn't like it and went back to his old way of throwing.

Unless it's just me, Sonsofsamhorn is down.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) cst_Cowley cst_Cowley @Steve9347 Until the games started, was the quote. Get it right. If you heard what I did, you would understand why. I have yet to see anyone add the words "until the games started" to Ozzie's quote.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) Did you know the Air Force bought ipad2's for every pilot? All of their flight plans will now be on ipad's A cousin of mine that is a teacher in Florida says that he can see schools getting rid of books and going completely to Ipads within the next few years.
