QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 11:36 AM) People from Cleveland have it much worse across the board. Plus they have to live there.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) https://np.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/3...derstand_xpost/ Another cringeworthy post. The Cubs don't have the monopoly on heartbreak, especially when it's not like Chicago has exactly been starved of sports championships in the recent past. Good grief. It's still just a game. If the MLB for some insane reason ceased to exist tomorrow, your life would go on.

We completely gutted and remodeled our kitchen about 5 years ago. We made sure to get a permit because we know our asshole neighbor would call us in the second he saw a contractor's truck in our driveway. $10-12K is probably reasonable. We paid less than that but the COL in our town is probably lower. Originally we were just going to replace the cabinets and counter tops and were checking with the big box stores like Home Depot and Menards. Then we ended up going to a local kitchen and bath place and they did everything for us including rewiring the electrical, putting up new drywall, installing new appliances, etc... Worked out well in the long run. We went a little cheap on our flooring and regret it. Went with linoleum and should have gone with tile instead. It already needs to be replaced.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) To the point where people will supposedly spend thousands or tens of thousands just to see the movie when it premieres. I've never heard of this but I guess it could happen if someone had to travel a long distance for it. Although there are also people out there that will spend thousands of dollars for a video game system on Ebay just to have it "first". Almost the same thing.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Nice games Code. And about the capping of handicap, I have seen it done before and I think it makes sense. My Tuesday league because one huge mix of teams after 3 leagues all lost teams and merged. So we have all guy teams, all women teams and some mixed. Just this last Tuesday we bowled one of the all women teams. The highest average on the team was a 135. Well, their 90 average bowler got lucky and bowled the first 3 frames as strikes. She had her average by the 4th frame, and the rest was gravy. It is just easier for a lower average bowler to bowl more pins over than a higher average bowler. To match that lady's score for the game (she had a 150-something) I would have had to bowl a 240. I didn't bowl a 240. I bowled a 200, but not 240. That's the thing about bowling though. If you have a 180 average and bowl a 240, that's pretty damn good and you should win. But it's the same if someone with a 90 average bowls a 150. Sure the better bowlers can throw a 150 with their eyes closed but for a lesser bowler, that's a huge accomplishment. There's probably a reason they only have a 90 average. It all evens out in the end anyway. It's damn near impossible for anyone to consistently bowl 60 and 70 pins over their average, because if they do, their average will just keep going up. My team has a pretty good mix. Our averages are 126, 127, 149 & 187. We are in first place by 3 points and bowl against the 2nd place team next week.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:41 AM) No offense to the other 100 posts, but this is the first one to make sense to me. Greg's world in a nutshell.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) Eh, now you are really stretching to keep this going. What you said, isn't there in any real volume. A few people said it, SOXTALK didn't say it. And as far as I can tell, only one person mentioned wanting Manny Acta. And it wasn't even to replace Robin.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I would ask you and all soxtalkers to comment on my comment about the cop breaking the unwritten rulebook code of cop-citizen in this case. Warning, no ticket for such an offense when the driver has nothing on his record. Baseball has a ton of unwritten rules; the cops had one in this town as well until I got pinched. There is no unwritten rulebook. You broke the law, you got caught. End of story.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Yes. 1 a.m., the driver (me) has nothing on his record; he's polite, not drinking, just wanting to make a buck the old fashioned way. Unwritten rulebook says 'let that guy off with a warning.' I'm amazed at how often you have some view of how things are or should be and then are completely shocked when absolutely nobody else shares that same view.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Because it's like baseball's "unwritten rule book." The unwritten cop-law-abiding citizen rule book says you get a warning for such a non-heinous crime such as rolling a stop sign when basically nobody's on the road. You really, truly believe this don't you?

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Without looking it up, 4 game sweeps in the CS aren't too common. I could see them picking up 1 or 2 wins before this is over. Hopefully that's it, because coming back from an 0-3 deficit to win and advance is a nightmare I don't think the world is ready to experience. I don't remember where I saw it but there have been somewhere around 33 teams that have gone down 0-3 in the championship series. IIRC, only 5 made it to game 5, 3 forced game 6 and 1 made it to game 7. Edit: Found this link.

I was born in 77 so I didn't get to see the original trilogy in theaters until they re-released them in the early 90's. But ROTJ wasn't released until 1983 so I was right at the perfect age to get into all the action figures. But the release of each subsequent set of trilogies has brought in an entirely new generation of fans.

Cubs fans won't shut up about the goat, Bartman, Brant Brown, Leon Durham, the black cat... Red Sox fans wouldn't shut up about The Bambino, Bucky f'n Dent, Bill Buckner... Sure Sox fans would bring up the Black Sox, but we never blamed our recent woes on them.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:46 AM) Starting to think he might not be around in this movie until late. Like maybe he has gone missing or something like that. I've read theories that he's kinda turned into a Yoda-like hermit.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) Bill Murray was on Jimmy Kimmel and apparently said if the Cubs were to win the WS, Cubs fans could become unbearable. If a Cubs fan says that........... He also said that Red Sox fans were gracious in their losing before 2004. Of the three, I think White Sox fans were the most gracious. The other two fan bases could never shut up about how they were "cursed". The only thing we Sox fans complained about was bad teams.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 12:33 AM) This is a thread about a stop sign. Y'all crazy. It's a Greg thread.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) I've been reading about predictions of impending doom. You should probably stop doing that.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) No it shouldn't be that way. There are more Cubs fans than Sox fans. Why would media outlets spend the same amount of resources on each? That's a bad business model. The Cubs are more popular so more time should and will be spent talking about the Cubs. Of course if that same media owns the team they are writing about they are going to give them more coverage. Leading to a larger fan base over the course of 20 years or so...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 12:14 AM) But it's risky with our ticket happy cops here in Ks. 3 seconds is a winner. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Then when you stop and count 3 seconds the guy/gal likely will be right on your bumper. And the people at the other stop signs are pissed at how slow you are progressing. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 01:09 PM) I was just out and about and again, people appeared mad at me for taking so long at the stop signs. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) So I had to finish pulling up to the stop sign, stopping, counting 3 seconds then driving through all after he waved me through. He looked PISSED. Sounds like the 3 second stop is just pissing everyone else off. Seriously, 1 second is long enough. Stop, look, go.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 16, 2015 -> 02:42 AM) Well admittedly Greg has been off a bit on predictions. So Chicago Cubs fans are in trouble if this holds. For I see NO WAY the Cubs can lose to the Mets. Cubs are a lock. Why? Well the Mets aren't prime time material No. 1. No. 2? I hate to go there, but this is all for Ernie Banks. The Cubs are wearing 14 on the sleeve this year for Banks. So what happens? Somehow they actually make the playoffs ahead of schedule, beat the Cardinals of all teams and now play the Mets, yes the Mets. The team that made Ernie's life hell as Leo Durocher blamed him for the 69 collapse. the Mets are the team that prevented Ernie from going to the Series. The Cubs were never the same after that. I'm pretty serious about this. Is heaven letting Ernie orchestrate this postseason?? It sure as hell seems that way. Cubs are a lock to play Toronto in the series. Does this mean KC and New York are assured the WS? We shall see but Greg has given his honest analysis and I've been off my predictive game a bit of late. Kinda like the year they won it all for Harry Caray? Or the year they won it all because it was the 100th anniversary of their last WS appearance? Or when they broke the curse by bringing a goat to Wrigley? Or broke the curse by blowing up the Bartman ball? I'm sure Ernie Banks death is totally going to be the reason they win this time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) The theory was crap to begin with. No one "shops" medical costs, because the entire system is set up such that you have NO idea what things will cost upfront. That plus the highly inflexible demand curve mean the shopping concept just doesn't work with health care. No one shops medical costs because when you have a medical emergency and call 911 shopping around for the cheapest option is probably the last thing on your mind. Get me in an ambulance and get me to a hospital ASAP. I'll worry about the costs later.

I've had DirectTV for almost 2 years now. I've been pretty happy with it but for some reason we lost the signal for AMC within the last week. We were able to watch the last episode of Fear the Walking Dead but it didn't record the season opener of Walking Dead. Of all the hundreds of channels we get, it is literally the only one that won't come in. Called customer support and they had me try a bunch of things but couldn't fix it. Paying $50 to have a technician come to the house. Of course they tried to sell me the "insurance plan" for $7.99/month which meant I wouldn't have to pay for the service call.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 06:11 AM) Do you have 10 lb. balls? One is 15 and one is 16. It takes big balls to bowl.

QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 07:44 AM) Watching the news this morning and they found a cub fan in Buffalo Grove that has been waiting for this for 70 years. I wonder where they find these people? Waiting 70 years for an appearance in the NLCS? Was he in a coma in 2003?

Just fyi, using the "everyone else does it" as a defense for getting caught doing something wrong is bad form.
