  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) We dare because you are well known to make grandiose unfounded misinformed statements based on one story you read. Sometimes I wish this board had a "like" button.

My DVR cut off the final 15 minutes of the Mr Robot finale. They replayed the episode a couple of times later on so I recorded it again in the hopes that it records the whole thing. If not, I'll be streaming it tonight.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) Technically there is no law mandating that she has to issue marriage licenses to homosexuals. Is there a law mandating that she has to issue marriage licenses to heterosexual couples?
  4. Nobody bowls anymore? I had a better night this week. Had a high game of 221 (I think? It was two twenty something) and brought my average up to 176. As a team we are 8-0 already.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 3m3 minutes ago Edison Volquez said he had chickenpox as a kid. Yordano Ventura didn't but said he isn't worried. When asked why, he flexed his biceps. I was apparently born with a natural immunity to chicken pox. 90% of the kids in my second grade class got it but I never did. Then when I had kids of my own, the two older ones got it and I still never did.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Do they really say things like this all the time? Really? Yes they absolutely do. I've heard/read it as well. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) God may have a plan but we also have free will in this life. I'm not sure those two things can both be true. If there's some creator that knows each and every choice we are going to make in our lives before we are even born, isn't free will just an illusion? If we make some choice that this creator couldn't or didn't forsee and plan for, then he's not as omnipotent as we thought.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) The "other" is quickly developing a history. The number of "friends" who have harassed me and degraded me for NOT superimposing a rainbow over my Facebook profile pic has grown so high I stopped counting. I don't change my FB photo for ANY cause, but somehow I'm an asshole because I won't change it for their favorite cause. I have an aunt who proclaimed that she was defriending anybody on FB who didn't have a rainbow in their profile pic, changing her mind only when her son refused to do it and she decided she didn't want to miss out on pictures of her grandkids. Now a guy has killed two people after going on a racist heterophobic rant. You need new friends. As far as the two flags go, I believe that neither should be flown in front of a state capital. Other than that, people should be able to fly/display them as they please.
  8. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 07:59 AM) Is there a way to block/hide user avatars? Some of them are decidedly NSFW. Click my controls at the top of the page. Click board settings. Under board display settings set the question “Do you wish to view members avatars when reading topics?” to no.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Yea you're right but it might as well be $100M because it is the Sox we're talking about here and they will do everything they can to try and recoup that money by playing the guy . Same thing with LaRoche . Everyone and their brother knew he should be platooned but somehow some way the Sox didnt anticipate that and it left a gaping hole in the middle of the lineup against left handers. You just can't win with such a huge hole in such a key spot yet come hell or high water the Sox want to squeeze every ounce of production or lack of production for the money they are paying him at the expense of playing winning baseball. I caught a few minutes of Rongey on the post-game last night and he was saying exactly this. Ugh...
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) For them to operate those "No refusal checkpoints" they have to have access to a judge in some way who is willing and able to grant a warrant if you refuse the search. You still have the right to not speak and to demand an attorney in those cases as well. Otherwise you still have every right to refuse to answer questions or respond unless they're willing to arrest you. I swear I've heard of them setting up DUI checkpoints with a judge right there on the spot to grant search warrants.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 11:01 AM) This is one of the cooler things I have heard about lately. Basically it can take facial recognition software and apply it to lost dogs. What you do is you take pictures of your dog. If it ever runs away, you can send out a notification. If you see a lost dog, you can take a picture of it, and the facial recognition software will match it to any lost dogs in their data base. http://www.findingrover.com/ That's a cool idea but I can't help reading that link as "find in Grover". Uh-oh...
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) So a kid I went to school with messaged me and goes on to think this whole thing was fake. Because, in the body cam video of the shooter, the woman is seen running after getting shot. He says that they were blanks. What an idiot. There's always going to be conspiracy theorists that think everything is fake. There are people that think Colombine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, 9/11, the JFK shooting and Elvis' death were fake too.

QUOTE (RegionSox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) The Mr Robot season finale is being pushed back a week That's interesting. I wonder what my DVR recorded then. Did they show last week's episode again?
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) Thanks for all the responses! Are you trying to build a case for your parents to get you a car?
  15. We actually gave my daughter my old car (03 Grand Prix) when we bought a new one a few years ago. But then it started acting up and not running right so we sold it for $500 and gave her the money to buy a laptop instead. Now she drives our 03 suburban which we only use on weekends for camping. She's paying her own way through college right now so we haven't pushed her to buy herself a car quite yet.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) That's cool. But why is it a fairy tale? Why has America become so skeptical about matters such as these? I've read estimates of around 4,200 different religions around the world. All of them say they are the right one and the others are false. You have no more or less proof that the one you believe in is true than any of the others do.
  17. So I guess I'm starting the year with a 164 average. Not horrible I guess. It gives me a chance to raise it up over the year rather than starting with a 220 and dropping. The last league I was on I was somewhere around a 195 avg. I'm also using a brand new ball and still getting used to how it reacts. Drama in the league has already started as well. It's a handicap league (100% of 200) and one guy wanted to cap the amount of handicap a bowler could have at 100 pins. I'm not even sure that's legal under USBC rules? It got voted down anyway. Then our secretary got offended and quit the league because we voted to make the secretary fees $16/team instead of $4/bowler. The reasoning behind this is complicated. There are 4 bowlers/team, but you are allowed to have an extra bowler or two on your roster. So if someone can't make it one week, another bowler can step in. Someone brought up the fact that if someone only bowls once or twice throughout the whole year, should they really be subject to the full amount of fees? The secretary left a copy of her "resignation letter" on all the lanes. She claims it wasn't about the money even though that's the exact reason she quit. Whatever. I'm just there to have fun and enjoy a night out with no kids.
  18. My parents usually had an extra car because my mom had a vehicle that she was allowed to use for personal use through her job. The first car I was allowed to drive myself to school and work was an old POS station wagon. I don't even remember the year or the make. Just that it was brown and had a hole in the floorboard in the back seat. I was eventually able to save up $1000 to buy my first car which was a 1988 Chevy Celebrity.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Yeah, the reveal was pretty early, which makes me wonder what is going to be the twist. I wonder if the twist will be finally revealing Tyrell's plan. Whatever it is.
  20. I read another recap of the game and this part of it didn't make sense. Ball hit down the line and called foul. Replay overturns call. Ball hit down the line and called foul. Not reviewable? What? Does the writer just not know what he's talking about or was it somehow different than the other play?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) BAM, What? Part of me was excited about the reveal, but another part of me now wonders where the show goes after letting go of the biggest secret. Hopefully they can keep it up. It's kinda odd how the show seems to be wrapping up. Tyrell is falling apart. The hack seems to be coming together. Angela is going to get her settlement. There's no way it all ends up working out perfectly right?
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) i have been very critical of the sox ownership as anyone here. but they are not going any where. so how to fix this streak of ineptness from the sox org, a new harsher directive ..... get rid of the good ole country club inner circle of no accountability. Those two ideas can't co-exist. The inner circle of no accountability comes directly from the ownership.
  23. I searched and the last bowling thread we had here was from 2012. Since I got a new job closer to home, I am finally able to join a bowling league. We had our meeting/warm-up night last night. We got 2 free games and I shot 203 and 207. Not bad considering I've bowled very little over the past 3 years. I'm counting on my teammates to provide the handicap. I also got a new ball for the first time in 15 years or so. It's fun to see it react much farther down the lane than my old ball. I've only bowled 4 games with it so I'm still getting accustomed to it. Should be a fun year. One thing I found odd was that one guy during our meeting wanted to cap the amount of handicap a bowler could get. Right now we are at 100% of 200 so if someone has an 80 average, they get 120 pins of handicap. He didn't like that. We voted on it and it didn't pass but I've never heard anyone complain about that before.
  24. I have a Half-Price Books Outlet near my house that has different sales all the time. A few months ago it was everything in the store was $1. Just last week they had a deal where you fill a bag with as much stuff as you could for $30. Between my wife, myself and a couple of other people we filled up a bag and paid less than $1 per book. So lately I've been buying a bunch of books that everyone says are good but I've just never gotten around to reading. I picked up the first two books of the Hunger Games trilogy (they didn't have the 3rd one for some reason), all three of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, Gone Girl and quite a few of the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz. I also found a biography about Charles M. Schulz (the creator of Charlie Brown/Peanuts Gang). I never even knew it existed but I've always been a big Charlie Brown fan. I still have Finders Keepers by Stephen King sitting at home as well. Just haven't found much time to read lately. Currently I'm about halfway through Say It's So by Phil Rogers. It's about the 2005 White Sox.
  25. IIRC, it was determined that it wasn't taken at Wrigley. EDIT: Apparently it was shot at Foxfield Track in Charlottesville, VA somewhere around 2007 or so.
