  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) Yeah, or maybe we could be allowed to track and study gun sales to look into if there are any patterns for gun purchases coming from particular stores. That's probably a good idea and I think we should do that but isn't that kind of like closing the barn door after the horse already got out? Then they just move to the next gun store down the block...
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) But i'm also not on the other end of the spectrum like some people here who think that because 5% or whatever of people ID'd the wrong guy that means ALL eye witness testimony is crap. Actually, I think it's closer to 5% that identify the right guy. From the study linked above: We are talking about less than a 50/50 chance that an eye-witness is choosing the right person.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 10:57 PM) http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/18/politics/oba...ting/index.html Here comes the gun control argument again... This is an awesome idea. We just need to get everyone that may potentially kill someone with a gun at some point in the future to register for a list so we make sure nobody ever sells them a gun. Or maybe we should just leave it up to the gun sellers to ask the question "Are you going to kill someone with this gun if I sell it to you?" Why hasn't anyone thought of this before?
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) Screw this. All Star Game is voted on by fans for fans to pick players they want to pick. I think it is tremendous for baseball that the Royals of all teams are somehow able to get 8 guys in (as it currently stands). Way to go KC. PS: Yes, my opinion would be different if it were the Yankees. I admit it, but for Kansas City to control the ballets like that, awesome. Great resurgence. I also highly doubt it will end up this way. This should send a shockwave to the other market teams to vote for other guys. I would agree with you if the ASG was still an exhibition game that was just for fun. Since they have to play for something meaningful, the managers should be able to put the best team possible on the field.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) You don't think that cops have a better memory or a better ability to process memories than normal people? No. They are just as human as us "normal" people.
  6. Eye-witnesses are notoriously unreliable. I don't know about this particular case but a lot of them would pass a polygraph with flying colors because they truly don't believe they are lying. They honestly believe they saw something completely different than what really happened. The human mind/memory can be a messed up thing.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) Infante now leading for 2nd base for ASG. 8 of the 9 starting spots to KC players. I didn't know that greg is the only person allowed to vote I've said it for years but the ASG voting is broken. Especially since "it counts". Have one or the other. Not both.
  8. Reading the story, it sounds like the hero only tackled the guy AFTER he was stabbed in the face. It's not like he was trying to be a hero, it was mostly self-defense. All while the cop(s) sat and watched it happen.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 01:24 AM) Good to see they fired the cop. The guy who fired the cop said the other cops acted tremendously and this cop just plain screwed up and escalated the situation. This outcome was perfect. That cop just plain f***ed up and got fired for it. Kneeing that girl in the back was ridiculous and pulling her hair, etc., just appalling. Cops need to get their acts together! resigned =/= fired
  10. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) The odds are they aren't a playoff team. http://www.hardballtimes.com/the-meaning-o...ord-in-mid-may/ The Sox were 15-17 on May 15.
  11. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 07:33 AM) I think you missed something.I would agree when Kenny was GM and Hahn AGM " it was far fetched that Kenny made all the decisions". But now Hahn is GM and Haber is AGM. So now should we not conclude it is Reisdorf, Williams, Hahn & Haber making the decisions. Maybe Haber wanted Melky............................... I was just about to ask if anyone knew who the current assistant GM was. I had no idea.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Basically, if you take away that 2013 World Series they're not much different than the White Sox over the last seven years From 2009 thru today the Red Sox have a .521 winning percentage with two post-season appearances and one championship. White Sox have a .479 winning percentage with zero post-season appearances. Go back to 2008 the Red Sox have a .530 percentage with three post-season appearances. White Sox are at .488 with only 1 post-season appearance/win. Not really that comparable.
  13. I liked Cars, but I've never gotten around to watching Cars 2. Monsters U wasn't nearly as good as the original. Toy Story has been the only one were they've really nailed the sequels.

    Grill looks kinda like this:

    Grilling

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 27, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) Probably need a good cleaning. Or the next time you grill, crank up the temp and let it cook for a while and burn all that excess food off. I do clean it before I cook. The problem is usually the fresh grease from the burgers I put on there. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2015 -> 11:48 AM) Yea, your grease catchers are full, so the grease goes straight to the burner. What brand grill are you using?(I apologize if you already stated it) You can either take them out and degrease them or buy new ones. You shouldn't have the same problem with charcoal though. You can indirect cook your meat and the grease won't touch the coals. I usually throw my burgers directly on the flame until they have a nice seer, and then move them outside the coals so they cook all the way through but the flame isn't burning the burgers into pieces of char IIRC, the grease catcher is below the burners. The covers look like this: The grease hits them and then just goes straight down. The flames are right underneath. I'm guessing it's a bad design from a cheap grill.

    Grilling

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Hmmm, is there a vent below that you can open to give it better airflow? I don't think it's the airflow. It's basically the grease dripping down onto the metal plates that cover the burners. Then the flames come up and set the grease on fire, even on their lowest settings. When I grill something like hot dogs or brats where there is no grease dripping down, it's not a problem.

    Grilling

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Use the lid. That'll kill any flare-ups. You would think so. Just this past weekend we had all 3 burners on low with the lid down. I was sitting right next to the grill and it still flared up. I ended up turning the middle one off completely. Maybe it's a cheap grill? QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 26, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) If the charcoal is out with some drips, i'm guessing they're not hot enough. And/or you're not using enough charcoal. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) How long are you letting the charcoal burn before you cook on it? They should all be mostly gray and orange by the time you start cooking. The charcoal is plenty hot when I start. I use a metal chimney to get them going and they are ashy/glowing red when I actually put the meat on. I've gotten better but I still seem to end up with some "dead spots" in the charcoal where the grease drips down and puts it out.

    Grilling

I've been grilling for years and still haven't quite gotten the hang of it for some reason. My biggest problem is the grease dripping down. If I'm using charcoal, it drips onto the briquettes and puts them out. If I'm using propane, it causes flare-ups. I've debated on getting one of these, but don't know how well it will work.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) You can spin it however you want to spin it, but winning games, being in first place, doesn't really help all that much. Exactly. Thank you. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) Getting to the post-season where people will buy packages for post-season tickets does. FIFY
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 26, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) There's not really a huge difference if we are talking attendance. If they have to win the division for people to attend, you won't know that until it is too late. The won the division in 2008 and drew less than they did for a team that had to win several games iin September to only lose 92. The problem with using 2008 as an example is that there is always some normalization in the years after a HUGE event like opening a new ballpark or winning the WS. For the most part, when the team goes to the playoffs, the attendance goes up that year. Attendance in 1983 was higher than in 1982. Attendance in 1993 was lower but that's because it hit an all-time high (at the time) in 1991 and was still coming back down. Although it was on pace to go higher in 1994 before the strike happened. Attendance in 2000 was higher than in 1999. Attendance in 2005 was higher than in 2004. Attendance in 2008 was lower for much the same reasons as 1993. It hit a new all-time high in 2006 which was simply unsustainable and was still coming back to "normal". Being sandwiched between two seasons of under .500 baseball didn't help either. The average attendance since the new park opened is just a tick under 2 million. 1,993,151 to be exact.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2015 -> 06:32 PM) From 2005-2010 White Sox won at least 88 games 4 times. After 2006, attendance went down every season. There's a huge difference between winning a lot of games and being in first place for "most of the season" and being in first place on the last day of the season. The latter typically draws more fans in. Especially if it's done frequently in a short time period. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Even before that, fans were going to games in Boston. Long before they made three straight playoff appearances, fans were going to games. You can nitpick on a specific number of consecutive post-season experiences all you want. I was just throwing out an example. There are lots of different ways to define success. It can be 2 years in a row. It can be 3 years in a row. It can be 3 times in 5 years. 5 times in 10 years. Something a lot of other teams in the league have done many, many times. If the Sox could manage any one of those scenarios I would bet that attendance would go up at least in the short term. But they never have. Actually, I just checked. The Sox are the only AL team that has never hit any of those scenarios. The Nationals, Marlins and Rockies are the only other teams that haven't either. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) How about we just try winning for a few years and see if it works? I promise to apologize if it doesn't, fair deal? We've done the 7 years without a playoff appearance experiment and it seems to be doing a poor job of filling the ballpark. Agreed.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ May 24, 2015 -> 06:28 AM) Our town Drive-In got turned into a Walmart as well. Same here. I actually know a guy that worked at the drive-in before they tore it down. Then he got a job working at the Wal-Mart that was built over it. He's still there. He's literally been working at the same location longer than the Wal-Mart has existed.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2015 -> 08:58 AM) All three of those runs by those teams were the best runs in their franchise history. And their attendance went up during those runs. Then afterward, attendance went down. Fans not showing up to watch a team that doesn't consistently win is not something strictly limited to the Chicago White Sox fan-base contrary to what some people seem to think.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) 2 out of 4 years? Check. 2005 and 2008. Attendance went down in 2008 from 2007. They were in first place most of 2012, yet attendance was down from 2011 which was down from 2010. I probably worded that badly but I was thinking at least every other year. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) I don't agree with ss2k5 all that often, but he couldn't be more right. No one is obligated to go to games, but quit complaining about not making the playoffs 3 or 4 years in a row when you don't show up and support successful teams. Successful teams make the playoffs 3 or 4 years in a row.
