QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) If the Yankees want to spend over budget go ahead, but I hope they get the most severe punishment to send a message. The Yankees pretty much want to sign all of the best guys this period, and will just have a down signing period the following year. They will be capped on what they can offer international prospects next year I believe. I'm at work and not able to do the research, but it's something like they can't offer a prospect more than $200,000. The Cubs have stipulations like that this signing period because of their overages last year.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 09:50 AM) For those that are worried he won't sign, there is one key thing that should make you feel better. Never in a million years would Hahn and company have locked up the 2-10 picks as quickly as they did if they thought they were going to need substantially more money to sign Rodon. Signing someone like J. Peters to a slot deal, only to lose 150k or so to add to the Rodon deal would be worse than the Swisher trade. Bingo. The White Sox did their due diligence. He's going to sign. It's not like Rodon fell to the 8th pick like Appel did. Appel was also unique in that he comes from a very wealthy family and money is not a large concern for him. Continuing, Rodon will have less leverage next year being a college senior and all. He will also be re-entering the draft in what is looking to be stronger class than this year's. For those that are worried that he hasn't signed yet, Boras draft clients almost always push it right up to the signing deadline. It's pretty surprising that Jackson signed as early as he did.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) 16 year old players are going to have such little influence. Who gives a s*** where the system is ranked anyways? This. These international signings really don't do s*** for prospect lists. They are way too young and aren't going to make an impact in the minor league system for a few years if at all. They are just too young, and often too raw. It's fantastic that the Sox are going to add talent to the system but international signings generally don't leap to the top of prospect rankings.

Wow. Bowden is terrible. What a preposterously light return for Price that would be.

Wasn't there an "I told you so" thread/posts about Grady's "resurgence" this season? Yeah...

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) Sorry for not looking through it, but yeah thank you. Good sign. Is he better with his stick or pitching? That seems to be the question, but the Sox like him as a position player evidently. Always has the fallback option of pitching though if things don't work with the bat. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) I have a hunch Jake Jarvis is gonna sign. His bio already says infielder in the Chicago White Sox organization. Yep. I posted it a few pages back with an article. It really sounds like it's close or maybe even done. -

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) Montes De Oca looks like an absolute monster. 6'8" high schooler who's already throwing 97? What are the rules after the 10th round again?? Can't we throw as much money as we want at the kid?? You can give him any amount as long as you have it available from your allotment. Thus if the Sox underslot a bunch of guys in rounds 1 through 10 and free up a million, they could theoretically throw that million at him. Probably not very feasible considering Rodon is seeking big money as well. Teams will grab these tough signs after round 10 because in rounds 11 and on you don't lose the slot amount if you don't sign the player you select. If he goes to school, he goes to school. No harm no foul. -

Today should be somewhat interesting in how the teams draft. Past round 10 each pick is slotted at $100,000. But you can offer a player as much as you want, it just counts against your entire allotment. Thus if you saved money in rounds 1 through 10, you can draft some tougher signs and offer them whatever the hell want as long as you have the money available. Also unlike the first ten rounds, not signing a player now doesn't remove the recommended allotment ($100,000) from your pool. So we can expect some teams (Cubs?) to take a shot at the highly ranked super tough signs today. IE: Bakauskas, Mac Marshall, Weisenberg, Montes De Orca, JJ Schwarz, McKinney etc. Perhaps we will see the Sox grab a tougher prep sign or two today. Once again though, it really depends on how expensive they think Rodon will be and how much they expect to have saved in the first ten rounds. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) And Laumann doesn't sound as if there's any concerns with Adams at all. There really shouldn't be much concern about Day 1 players signing. If they don't, the team loses that pick's allotment. The Sox are going to be extra super diligent in that they won't be f***ed out of $1.2 million of their entire draft allotment. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 6, 2014 -> 05:28 PM) Sox draft Jake Jarvis, listed him as 2B. Callis said he thought he was considered unsignable, and he preferred him as a pitcher. Curious that the Sox would take a tough sign with the last of the slotted picks. Must think they have the money moved around. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws&c_id=cws -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) I've read it, I touched on it above. I still think it's a very low strikeout number, even with predominantly fastball usage. Seconded. At some point the "he's working on something" explanations have to translate to results. Hoping it happens because the groundball rate is pretty good.
