QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 07:28 AM) Why is Kolek falling? No idea. It might be just bulls***, but who knows? Kiley offers this though: Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd · 11h Well because he doesn't really do anything else right now & huge injury questions due to velo RT @riley_daddy Because he throws too hard? Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd · 11h Scouts tend to get more conservative in crunch time & Kolek was overhyped due to velo MT @riley_daddy No different than he's been all season

Crawford's final mock. Corroborates Kolek falling. White Sox take Nola instead. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/06/the-final-mock-ever/ Pretty much okay with this if it happens. Especially if he's underslotted.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 12:01 AM) If everyone thinks Kolek is slipping, it must mean a lot of people don't believe the Sox are in on him. Assuming Aiken goes number 1, most seem to be leaning towards Rodon being picked by the Marlins. I still can't picture the Marlins doing that, as their recent trade of a draft pick doesn't seem to be the actions of a team that might be selecting someone that will be paid over slot. Or it could mean that Jackson to the Marlins is looking likely and that Sox won't pass on Rodon who would fall in their lap. After that it seems many teams aren't that into Kolek.

keithlaw @keithlaw 1m Might go 7 or 8 rather than top 3. “@Strike4YourOut: @keithlaw can you explain what's going on with Kolek?” Wonder if the Sox are down on him, or the implication is that Rodon will be there and selected.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 09:35 PM) Time to lock this thread Agreed. Consolidate the draft talk to one thread por favor.

So is this the new draft thread? Close the other one?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) There was something out there a while ago about the Twins loving Kolek but they didn't think he had a chance to make it to 5. I think it's all fuddlesticks and poppycock. No way do several teams pass on the kid. Just disinformation getting put out there. Certainly possible! I will be following the nonsense regardless. Today's huge rumor via Heyman is the Cubs are all over Schwarber. First we've heard him that high. I would love him if he had a shot at sticking behind the plate.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) I don't see Kolek sliding. Lots of smoke gota let it settle. I could see it. From everything we've heard so far, it really sounds like the Sox are his ceiling. Neither the Cubs or Twins are on him supposedy. He could slide if the Sox don't pop him. I take it all with a grain of salt, but I truly enjoy all the draft tweets and rumor-mongering. Provides me with much entertainment. I love the MLB draft.

Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd 4m To give you an idea, a crosschecker gave me his mock top 11. Includes Schwarber at 4, Beede at 10, no Kolek in top 11. It's getting wacky. Expand

Kiley McDaniel @kileymcd 2m The best draft dope comes in the next 18 hrs starting now as meetings are breaking for the night. Lots of buzz that Kolek is sliding. Expand I love being off tomorrow and Friday!
-
Evidently Nolan Ryan met with Kolek today. Peter Gammons @pgammo 37m Astros thought process will go to 5 pm Thursday, like last year, so don't draw conclusions from Nolan Ryan-Tyler Kolek meeting Tuesday Expand

As I've said previously I really like Nola. Safe is tossed around a lot with negative connotation around here, but the safe draft prospect at 3 is much different than taking the safe player at 15 to 20. Nola still has upside. I'm still unsure who I'd want between an underslot Nola and a slot or higher Rodon. Though I wouldn't be disappointed with either.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 03:13 AM) I want Gillaspie or Reetz with our 2nd pick. Gillaspie will likely be off the board. Reetz might be around for the Sox in the 3rd round.

Pitching prospects with strikeouts make me very happy.
-
Encouraging starts by both Lowry and Danish thus far.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) That article is free and has Aiken going 1 and Kolek to us. Pretty sure this is just the mock they put up on Friday. Not sure why it has today's date on it. It reads identical as far as I can tell.

Timmy Anderson: 4-4, 3B

LSU/Houston now on ESPN3. Nola pitching.

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ May 31, 2014 -> 11:32 AM) Is it possible that with Rodon, they could make a deal where he makes less and is promised a late call-up this season (even if it is in the bullpen just to get experience)? Like how the Sox handled Chris Sale. Not out of the question I'd say.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 31, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) I still want Kolek the most & am liking that there's more out there now about the Sox wanting him. The Nola stuff was scary to me. IF Kenny/Rick/Jerry feel they'll get Rodon at a price which allows them to still make use of their overall draft figure (because IMO it's absurd to blow that $9M wad on pretty much one guy) then one of the three, I'll take that all day. Rodon has all the talent, just the threat of demanding a #1 bonus or something, that scares me. Especially when there's deep pitching overall in the draft. I think Nola is being undersold a bit. Plenty of publications think he's worthy of the number 3 pick. He might not have an ace ceiling, but maybe a number 2. He can touch mid 90's, has pinpoint command, and 2 plus pitches with a chance for 3. Do the White Sox thing and work on a cutter, see what happens. He could likely be placed in the rotation next year and hold his own. He will be one of the first draft picks of this class in the majors without question. The arm slot seems to be the only knock on him from what I can tell. I wouldn't take him over an Aiken or Rodon, but perhaps over Kolek. I would not be unhappy with a Nola selection. Especially if he's underslotted to spread some money around.

keithlaw @keithlaw 2m Heard from a scout at the regional that Tyler Beede looked the best he has all season in his outing last night.
-
Beede was filthy last night. 8.0 IP 4 H 0 R 2 BB 14 SO. If those command issues ever get straightened out he's going to be real good. If the Sox were picking later in the 1st round, he would be an ideal target. Video compilation showing each strikeout from last night. http://www.vucommodores.com/allaccess/?media=447832

Tons of college baseball on today. Looks like you can stream all of it on ESPN3 if you have access to it. Aaron Nola is the only player still playing that could be in the mix at 1-3. He pitches tonight at 7.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 31, 2014 -> 07:43 AM) Boo hoo the Sox are getting national attention for once over the Cubs. Cry me a f***ing river Dickstein. Huh?
