  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 12, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) Just going to throw this out there given Nola's ascent recently, his brother is in AA with the Marlins. Some times those familial ties have an impact with selections. I doubt they take him given the composition of the draft, but it would not shock me, especially if the Marlins want to employ the same underslot strategy that has been talked about constantly with the Sox. At this point, I think Kolek and Rodon go off the board at 1-1 and 1-2, and the Sox pick between Aiken and the field. Aiken is my number 1 so I'd be perfectly fine with that. Wouldn't snivel at Kolek or Rodon either.
  3. Kanny rained out. W-S now in a rain delay. Montas has to be done. 4.1 IP 3 H 0 R 6 SO Like.
  4. Montas cruising again. Encouraging.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) But isn't take Nola another version of Broadway/McCulloch/Poreda, except at the 3 spot? Obviously, Wacha went #13 and was great, but nobody's projecting Nola as a frontline starter or ace at the big league level right now, are they? (Of course, there were critics/skeptics about Adam, too.) Poreda was not a safe pick. The consensus pitchers with frontline potential are Aiken, Rodon, and Kolek. If anyone else did they would be in the discussion with those three. Nola is being discussed because of the rumor that the Sox are considering the second tier of college arms which indeed would be sacrificing ceiling for more certainty. The theory is that they would also be garnering some financial flexibility via significant underslotting and the ability to grab multiple players with significant talent. I don't think people are necessarily arguing that it's the definite way to go, just exploring who might be the selection if not one of the big three.
  6. Have yet to see reports on notable GMs/Scouting Directors at his start. Kendall Rogers ‏@KendallRogersPG 2m Several scouts have told me they’d be shocked if he’s not a Top 7/8 guy. RT @Lee_White73: @KendallRogersPG Where does he get drafted? Expand
  7. Impressive performance from Nola. Nola's line: 9.0 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 9 K
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ May 10, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) Any chance Nola gets in the conversation for the Sox after today? I like the idea of taking somebody closer to the majors. If as rumored that they aren't that into Kolek, then absolutely. Nola is in that next tier of arms. I'd still very much prefer Aiken/Rodon though.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 10, 2014 -> 01:08 PM) When I've seen him, the secondary offerings were great. Fastball has good sinking movement as most sidearmers fastballs do. He's another guy who can fly through someone's system. Definitely one of my favorite prospects this year. If the Sox go under slot at #3, he'd be at the top of my list. He's more or less turned into the number 2 college pitcher on most draft boards. Solid three pitch mix right now, polished, pitchability type. High floor. Likely to be one of the first starting pitchers in the class to reach the majors. I could see the Twins jumping all over him if he's there at number 5.
  10. Nola with 5 K's through 3.0 IP. Fanned 4 in a row. Has the breaking ball working. Haven't seen much of the changeup. Pounds the strike zone. A repeated knock on him is the arm slot. Almost side-arm.
  11. Peter Gammons ‏@pgammo 4m Carlos Rodon's 7 4 1 0 1 9 Friday vs. Wake Forest was in front of Jeff Luhnow and Dan Jennings Expand
  12. LSU/Bama can be streamed via ESPN3 in about 15 minutes. Likely top 10 pick Aaron Nola pitching for LSU due to yesterday's rain out. He opposes Spencer Turnbull who is #58 on Kiley's list.
  13. Aaron Fitt ‏@aaronfitt 3m I have confirmed that #UNLV ace RHP Erick Fedde will have Tommy John surgery. Was regarded as a potential top-10 overall #mlbdraft pick. Expand
  14. keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 33m Speaking of pitcher health, multiple sources telling me today UNLV pitcher Erick Fedde will need TJ surgery too
  15. John Manuel ‏@johnmanuelba 3m FSU ace RHP @DreamWeava7 is straight dealing tonight. FB was 92-95 early, he's thrown 6 scoreless IP, 4 H, 5 SO. 3-0 #mlbdraft Expan

  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 9, 2014 -> 05:56 PM) Good stuff, Dirty. Appreciate the sleuthing. I'm not opposed to Hoffman at all if this discount is immense. I hope the Sox are just doing their due diligence if Rodon-Aiken go 1-2. I feel as if McDaniel's tweet made it seem Beede was out of play for the Sox, does the article underpin that? He doesn't really say one way or the other on Beede. Just that when an organization's top men show up this late to see someone in a tier below where they are picking, something could be up. It's atypical, especially with a pick that high.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 9, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) Kiley McDaniel ‏@kileymcd 44m That top 3 team had scouting dir & GM at Beede's start last night & is rumored tobe looking outside the top 3 talents http://sbb.scout.com/2/1401310.html Yikes. That has to be us right? f*** it. I'll get a month sub for this. Yes it is the White Sox. He corroborates Manual in hearing rumors that the White Sox could pass on Kolek if he's who is available at 3. Says the GM (maybe he meant KW) and Laumann were at Beede's start. Other teams saying they can't get a good read on what the Sox are going to do. Notes they were super hot on Hoffman all spring, especially right before his injury. Theorizes they could pick from the second tier of arms at a well under-slot discount to throw at later picks. Says having your GM show up this late in the season to see a a non top 3 talent lends credence to this. Finally says there is a non-zero chance they could still grab Hoffman.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 8, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) When the Sox and Cubs play I purposely watch the Cubs broadcast, as it's infinitely better than our poor washed up Hawk. So much this. It's truly depressing that Sox fans still have to put up with that blathering idiot. MLB radio + the mute button is how I watch the White Sox.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ May 8, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Kris Bryant is going to be an all-star, isn't he. He's legit. Lord knows the Cubs need it.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ May 8, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) Michalczewski putting up pretty good numbers for a 19-yr old. Switch hitter. Hopefully the Sox have something there. Yep. Big fan. The plate discipline he's showing at such a young age is impressive. Hoping the power comes along too.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 8, 2014 -> 02:34 PM) I have a feeling we're going to end up with Jakson Reetz at #44 I'd be okay with this. The depth in this class is pretty great. There will be plenty of worthwhile options at 44.
  24. Law's Top 100 Draft Prospect list is up. Insider.
