  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:13 PM) Holmes sounds like Gordon Beckham... Dylan Bundy comp? I don't think his stuff is that electric, time will tell. I really like Grant Holmes. Not tons of projection left, but the stuff is great already. That curve is sick.
  2. Via Crawford's chat: http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/06/live-ml...t-chat-400-est/
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 01:21 PM) Seems like Law is starting to praise the Sox more and more in his comments. Kiss of death! He really likes Hahn and what he's done.
  4. Pssh. You are slow on posting those 2K5. Justin (Chicago) If a team can teach Luke Weaver a breaking ball how does that change his projected ceiling? Klaw (2:09 PM) That's not a minor "if," but I've half-joked that the White Sox should take him in the second round, and in three months he'll be throwing a plus slider.
  5. Sean (SF) [via mobile] Crazy how many people are caught up in Koleks velocity more than his tools Klaw (1:58 PM) Bingo. If I wanted to crush him, I'd argue that he has below-average command, his slider isn't effective vs LHB because he can't locate it, he doesn't throw his changeup, and he'll have to work to maintain his physical conditioning. If I didn't tell you that he throws 100 mph, wouldn't you ask why the heck that guy was in consideration in the top few picks? J (Toronto) So why is Kolek #3 on your board? Klaw (2:02 PM) Because he's 6'6" and throws 100 mph with a chance for a 60 or 70 slider. He looks totally uncoached to me.
  6. Passan had a Montas blurb too. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb-draft-cha..._medium=twitter
  7. Jack (Chicago) Hi Keith, just read your mock and was disappointing in the White Sox. Is this back to the lower ceiling Kenny Williams days for the draft on Nola or am I missing something. I thought I remember you saying he might move to closer as well. Thanks Klaw (1:45 PM) Don't recall ever saying he'd move to closer. I don't understand why you'd be disappointed in them taking a close to major-league ready starter.
  8. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 11:48 AM) Aaron Fitt and Kendall Rogers love Nola for whatever that's worth. Have for a while. Kendall Rogers ‏@KendallRogersPG 4m Don’t think it’ll happen for the @astros, but for me, there’s not a surer bet in those top 10 picks than #LSU RHP Aaron Nola. #MLBDraft Expand Kendall Rogers ‏@KendallRogersPG 3m I’m a fan of consistency with big-time stuff, and there’s nobody like Aaron Nola. Just call him Mr. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. #MLBDraft Expand Kendall Rogers ‏@KendallRogersPG 1m Nola and the word reach don’t belong together. RT @ProfessorFog: @KendallRogersPG You don't think he would be a reach at 3 for the #ChiSox?

  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) I will watch it tonight, but really MLB network doesn't keep things all that interesting to me. They will probably have Harold Reynolds on again, who I like during the major league games, but he knows less about these prospects than 90% of this board. Harold is awful and loves every single pick. Callis is fantastic and will be there. As will Mayo who is pretty tolerable.
  11. Crawford has updated his mock with a change. http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2014/06/the-final-mock-ever/
  12. Callis: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mock-d...ent_id=78353170 Callis & Mayo will have one more projection before tonight.
  13. Kiley McDaniel ‏@kileymcd 5m Freeland medical described as "bad" by one scouting dir; could still go to 8/COL for deep discount. Some teams in 20s saying they'll pass. Expand
  14. Both Callis and Mayo have the Sox taking Kolek in their latest mock, noting that Nola is still possible as well. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/jonath...p;vkey=news_mlb
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Also an interesting though. I'd be much happier with Kolek pick if it saved, say a million dollars. Agreed.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) Screw that he deserves to be called out for that comment if he's backtracking already. Backtracking already? He said Kolek is still a possibility. This changes. All the time. Certainty doesn't exist. Welcome to the draft.
  17. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) I like what I've read, but what scares me is Nola's scouting reports sounds a bit like Broadway. You know, good command with good off speed pitches. But Nola is not Broadway so if the Sox draft him all we can do is hope Nola doesn't turn out to be Broadway 2.0. The "safe" pick at 1-3 is different than the "safe" pick at 1-15, which is where Broadway went.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) Didn't he say just a couple of days ago Kolek to the Sox was the biggest lock of the draft? How about we not s*** up this thread with your routine Law bashing?
  19. I believe Keith Law has a new mock up this morning with the Sox taking Nola. Not an insider though, so can't verify.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) He has incredible command. Change-up got away from him in recent years. Fantastic pitchability. Great makeup as well.
  21. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) Well if you are referring to their aversion to high school pitchers by all accounts Aiken seems to be #1 on their board. I am hoping like hell he falls to them some how. Yep. Aiken is best case scenario. I'd be elated. For me: 1.) Aiken 2.) Rodon 3.) Nola
  22. New BA Mock. Has Sox taking Kolek, but they are deciding between him and Nola. http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...ooks-like-no-1/
  23. Speaking of significant draft talents with signability issues, Kiley has a list of them in his latest big board. http://sbb.scout.com/story/1408495-the-draft-board?s=381 Bukauskas is one of my favorite draft prospects. Dylan Cease could be a steal despite the likelihood that he needs TJ. I'm also a big fan of Keith Weisenberg.
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:16 AM) I wouldn't mind Nola, but I would not be happy paying him slot. If the Sox can save the equivalent of a third rounder by going with Nola, I would be OK with it. I am just worried that Nola's 94-95 MPH suddenly becomes 91-92 ala Erik Johnson. From what I've seen, Nola doesn't really sit mid 90's. That's more the upper range of what he can touch.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 08:07 AM) If Nola has a 3-4 floor and 2 upside, plus Coop and the staff like his mechanics, I couldn't fault the Sox for taking him. The Sox need another guy that will give 32 starts and 200 innings. They don't grow on trees. Teach him a cutter!
