Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG 2h #ECU RHP Jeff Hoffman as advertised in the first. Moved around 94-96 FB, flashed a plus 77-80 CB, 86-87 CH just OK. #mlbdraft @ECUBaseball Expand Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG 1h #ECU RHP Jeff Hoffman touched 97 in the second, doing a terrific job of keeping FB low in the zone. That CB has a lot depth too. #mlbdraft Expand Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG 1h Really impressed with Jeff Hoffman's ability to change speeds/feel. One beautiful AB last frame: 97 FB, 82 CB, 82 CB (both plus). #mlbdraft Expand Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG 1h After his changeup was just okay in the first inning, Jeff Hoffman's CH has gotten much better since. Still showcasing 95-97 velo, too. Expand Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG 22m #ECU RHP Jeff Hoffman just sick in 6th. ++ CB, CB, then upper 80s CH for a K. He motions the #Rice hitter to "get off the field". #mlbdraft Expand Kendall Rogers @KendallRogersPG 22m The book on Jeff Hoffman was that if he can get into a groove, he's almost unhittable. He did that early in this one, has looked tremendous. Expand

Kansas City Royals vs Chicago White Sox 3:10 PM
DirtySox replied to Kyyle23's topic in 2014 Season in Review
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Can't believe some of the comments towards Erik Johnson. Not only has it been only one part of one start, his velocity is way down. Erik Johnson will be just fine. Seconded. As with the majority of prospects, there will be growing pains. This is the year for it. -
Hoping to see Beck significantly increase his K rate this year. Until then I see him as a back-end of the rotation guy at best.
-
2 Errors for Tim Anderson already.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Interesting take from Keith Law. He's very down on Rodon and always been pretty excited about the athleticism and potential of Hoffman. Nick (Chicago) Rick Hahn has stated the White Sox are targeting a college pitcher with their #3 pick in the draft. Who offers more upside Hoffman or Beede? Klaw (1:04 PM) Hoffman. More velocity, great athlete, underdeveloped as a pitcher right now. Beede's the safer pick of the two, but I would bet that if they have both guys staring them in the face (and Rodon too) they'd take Hoffman. This very much reiterates what Bucket has been trumpeting. I still like Hoffman personally.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 12:49 PM) What major league comps are being made with/about Hoffman? Verlander as a comp is the most common I've seen.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 08:05 PM) If that's the case, I hope we're the team that triumphs Cole's bonus and gives Rodon the biggest ever. Not me. I'd rather not spend $8+ million on one pick of the total $9.5 million allotment. Especially when the assigned pick value for the 3rd pick is $5.7 million. But then again, I'm not entirely sold on Rodon.

Via Kiley's Twitter: Can't rule it out, since $ expectations are sky high RT @thebronxempire I wonder if Rodon pulls an Appel if he doesn't get drafted top 5

Jason Parks @ProfessorParks 49s #WhiteSox SS Tim Anderson is showing off at the plate, w/ a 2B and a bomb so far in AA game. Loose and easy. Should have been in BP 101

QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 23, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) In which case the sox management all go crazy with joy since we get Rodon. Either way, we are in a great position. I'd wager that Rodon will demand 1-1 money even at if selected 3rd. Boras is his advisor and he has the option to return to school for his senior year a la Appel if he so wishes.

This is Callis. Not Mayo.

I'm not sure I'm down with the Adam Eaton mutton chops.

Giants were "close to deal" with White Sox
DirtySox replied to Feeky Magee's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm guessing Susac was discussed. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Isn't it really early to be writing off draft picks? Quite. He's had 5 starts. The draft isn't until June.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 06:01 PM) That's being kind. He was shelled. Gotta believe he's on the brink of falling out of consideration at #3, barring a turnaround. Only 3 of the runs were earned. Supposedly the victim of some absolutely brutal defense behind him. Not saying he had a fantastic start, but he wasn't dreadful. Aaron Fitt @aaronfitt 2h Heard a scout behind me say of #ECU: "This is the worst defensive team I've seen all year, by far." Can't argue with him based on this look.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) Just read tweets that Saunders is indeed one of the names involved. I would hope there's a + to that for Viciedo then. Tweets from who? I've yet to see anything reputable implying anything is close.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) Todays games of interest: Carlos Rodon vs Notre Dame 2 pm CT Jeff Hoffman vs Marshall (PPD) tomorrow at 11 am CT Tyler Beede vs Winthrop 6:30 pm CT Newcomb looks like he is not picthing this weekend in a three game series with East Tenn State, so maybe a red flag there. Rodon can be watched on ESPN3 today. It will be archived.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) Trea Turner should be out of the running at #3. Positives are speed and defense, but way too many flaws as a hitter. Has a very awkward swing that will not generate any power. Not a fan of Turner. I've always been kind of hesitant on him, and he hasn't done much yet to change that.
-
Western Illinois has a draft prospect with some helium. Not an option at number 3 obviously, but in-state guys always interest me. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/und...-tyler-willman/
-
Law has an insider article noting that Beede is on track to be a top 5 pick.
-
I'll go with 70. I love what Rick is doing, but there will be growing pains with prospects and some performing vets traded at the deadline.
-
If your cable provider supports it, one can watch NC State/Appalachian State this afternoon on ESPN3.com. Get a look at Trea Turner.
