  1. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 02:15 AM) Top 5 picks listed are.... Rondon, Hoffman, Jackson, Gatewood, OF Braxston Davidson. Rodon. Sorry. Pet Peeve.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) Sox don't need pitching right now. You can get pitching in the later rounds. You don't draft for need. You take the BPA. If Hoffman is available at 3 and is clearly thought more highly of than Turner by the Front Office, he should be picked.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) The onus to trade a starting pitcher dissipated a ton with the signing of Abreu. Unless the right deal comes up involving the right catcher or 3B, we aren't dealing young starting pitching anymore. Huh? Why has it dissipated? This team still has plenty of holes and a surplus of pitching. I fully expect a starter to be dealt.
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) I think he's a big sleeper for the Sox who could allow us for ability in trades from our position of strength. Would like to see a one year deal with a team option. What'da ya think, SoxTalk? I think he could be a great buy low candidate looking to re-establish value. Let Coop take a crack at him. Could be flipped at the deadline for value if he bounces back and the Sox aren't in it.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) Rangers-bound, IMO Or Boston. Or NY. Then the runner ups go after Salty. I don't think either are in the cards for the White Sox.
  6. QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) I doubt Grandy would get this kind of money, or this many years. I like Granderson, and the problem with Abreu is that he is a total unknown at the MLB level. Grandy will also likely get a qualifying offer which would cost the Sox a draft pick for signing him.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) Also have to like the overall presence the Sox are starting to make internationally. Wilder buried them for years. Wilder buried them in the Dominican. Cuba not so much.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) The sox were in it if it stayed below 80 which they thought it would. This was plan A this offseason. It's a great signing for a team in their position. I expect some pitching surplus to be traded next for a another position player that could be added to the core for the long-term.
  9. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1m White Sox will still look to add catching depth and could make moves via trade. But this will be cornerstone of rebuild/reshape Expand
  10. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) Its 50/50 white sox or rangers right now according to SB Nation SB Nation is just a community website. A glorified message board. It isn't a source.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) http://www.lonestarball.com/2013/10/17/485...gers-jose-abreu That's just the SB Nation Rangers page with a post referencing Sullivan.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:48 PM) It seems hard to believe the Sox would ever draft a high school pitcher that high. Agreed. I'm a fan of his though.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/201...3-carlos-rodon/ Kolek hype.
  14. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Best possible fit in FA. Very much so.
  15. Good on you White Sox. Get what could be a legit power bat, won't cost a draft pick, and should be a part of the next White Sox core even if the team likely won't be competitive next season. More smart signings and trades please.
  16. I loathe Hawk and am embarrassed my favorite baseball team employs him. He is an oafish novelty act that is about insightful as a bag of rocks. The day he's finally gone will be a celebratory one indeed.
  17. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) Was told Rick really likes Trea Turner. Sees him as a possible cornerstone pick. 4/5 tools are potential plus. I'm not entirely sold on Trea just yet, but looking forward to seeing what he can do when healthy this coming season. 80 speed, good basestealing ability, and the ability to stay at SS is pretty substantial. The hit tool looks good too. He has a decent approach at the plate, and the power could show up more in the future. Hmm. I might have just talked myself into Trea Turner. I think the last college SS the Sox drafted must have left me a bit leery.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/09/quick-hits-4.html http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...ign-jose-abreu/
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) I'd love to get Ellsbury and Abreu. I'd wager heavily that Ellsbury reunites with Theo on the north side.
  20. Kiley McDaniel's updated High School Top 100: http://sbb.scout.com/2/1331563.html If Alex Jackson shows signs he might be able to stick at catcher I have considerable interest. Also some local boys to take notice of. Might have to catch some High School Baseball this year. 71.) Jake Godfrey RHP - Providence Catholic (IL) - Notre Dame 72.) Brad Bass RHP - Lincoln-Way Central (IL) - Notre Dame 87.) Darius Day CF - Simeon (IL) - Arizona
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) Hawk just mentioned it during the broadcast. Certainly odd that he broke the news.
  22. Erik Johnson versus Yordano Ventura is a pretty fun pitching matchup for us prospectors. Will watch.
  23. Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 18m #Redsox have shown the most interest in Jose Dariel Abreu, source says. He's been working out at their facility in D.R. Expand
  24. Also, Pence receiving $90 million is kind of ridiculous. He just set the market and it makes even less sense for the White Sox to jump in on premier players at that price.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) The Pence signing means...uh...nothing. I don't think people realize where the Sox are right now. It's a terrible team that has little chance of even going .500 next year. The Sox just need to focus on acquiring as much young talent as possible, and once they get close to being good, then they can worry about signing guys like Pence or McCann. Pretty much my view. The window isn't there yet. They need to make smart signings/trades that make sense in the long term. Hahn pretty much reinforced this yesterday talking about creating a sustainable organization for the future and how much money they will have for the draft and international spending. He noted not to expect quick fix band-aid signing and the possibility of lesser short term deals as stop-gaps while they wait for prospects. I think Abreu makes sense and perhaps McCann, but that's it for the big names and I'm okay with that. I'm prepared to wait a year or three while they put themselves in a better position to compete again.
