  1. Hey White Sox. Stop winning. Thanks.
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 08:41 PM) Apollogies. Not needed. Just some discussion there if interested.
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) Sickels says Semien could be a regular if he maxes out his tools. Was hoping for a little better write up. Link. Discussed in the Semien thread.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 07:45 PM) Semien adds two walks. He's the s***. I'm so f***ing stoked that the Sox have a legit prospect with some plate discipline.
  5. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 8h Texas HS RHP Tyler Kolek. @lukejett10: best prospect for the 2014 #mlbdraft outside of Rodon? Expand
  6. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA 9h He is. Could have mentioned him as No. 2 behind Rodon for 2014 #mlbdraft @esteban_s_soto: is Jeff Hoffman a legit 1.1 candidate?

  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) IF he can hit .240 or .250... Are you even reading the article? He says that even if he can only hit .240 or .250 he will still be a valuable asset. He doesn't state that it's his ceiling.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 09:24 AM) So the experts are still looking at him as a utility guy ceiling. Utility guy in the sense he can play multiple positions. He could also just play 2B. Sickels states in that piece that he can be a regular starter.
  10. Sickels' prospect of the day. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/8/5/45...icago-white-sox
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) I'd like him to play wherever he has the most value. If he can be an average CF'er, or even just a little below average, he may be more valuable than he would be as an average to above rightfielder. Agreed. I'll be much higher on him if he can stick in CF. At least for a few years.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Appel Cosart Folty McCullers Seems to me they'd want a LHP instead of a RHP if it's a close call. If all things being equal I'd agree.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) If Hoffman does end up being the projected #1 and Astros get the first pick, I'm not so sure they take a RHP given their organization right now. What do you mean? They will take an inferior player just because he's left-handed? I don't see that from Luhnow. Similarly, I'd be quite upset if the White Sox passed on Rodon if they thought he was the best player available, due to our current rotation being too left handed.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) Yay! We get some pitcher as No. 1 draft pick in 2014. Just what we need, another good pitcher. Word. Who would possibly want another pitcher that could be a top of the rotation candidate to slot right next to Sale? Who would want extra pitching depth that would allow the possibility of trading for position talent to fill the gaping holes in both the minor and major leagues? It's all quite silly if you ask me.
  15. I still really like Erik Johnson.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) That will probably change I would think. It will absolutely change. My premature guess though is that there won't be a premium college bat that rises into top 3 consideration. Still soooo early, but this is all we have at the moment. It will be fun to look back on the early posts in this thread sometime next year.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) Who is Kiley McDaniel? National baseball writer prospect draft dude. Has written/analyzed for ESPN, BP, Scout.com, Fox Sports, etc. You can kind of lump him in the Parks, Badler, Callis, Sickels, Cooper, Piliere group. He's also the guy that broke Zapata to the White Sox way before it was official.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) I can't see Turner being in play for the White Sox given who's in the system. Who's in the system that would likely be better than Turner if he's worthy of the 2nd overall pick? I can't think of one, especially at SS where he will stick. You can't draft for need, especially with a farm so bereft of talent.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) Except for the wall, pretty much what he's done all year The walks will be what excites me with him. More.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Thanks for the info. I just saw a comparison to Verlander for him. The great thing about having such a high pick is that if a few players blow up (ie: J. Gray this year), you're almost guaranteed to get a big time prospect. For the most part, gone are the days of salary demands for top prospects causing them to fall in the draft. Super early, but it really looks like college pitchers are going to dominate the top of the draft where the White Sox will sit. Some pretty good prep bats too, but not much in the way of college bats (save Trea Turner) which I'm sure will disappoint many around here. I've always been a proponent of BPA and it has to be the case when likely picking in the top 3.
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Apparently he's looked fantastic in this year's Cape Cod. Kiley McDaniel talks about him in a recent podcast. Ahtletic, fastball sits around 95, three plus pitches. Just a name to keep in mind. Video. Draft/Cape/Team USA talk starts at about 15 minutes in for anyone interested.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) What do they like about him? His numbers are nothing special. http://www.ecupirates.com/sports/m-basebl/...3/teamcume.html Apparently he's looked fantastic in this year's Cape Cod. 23. I see people mentioning Tyler Beede, but Kiley McDaniel and a few others are now super high on East Carolina pitcher Jeff Hoffman. He could very easily be the 2nd (or possibly even 1st) pitcher taken in this coming draft.
