  1. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) I dont know who that guy is on comcast but he has no insight lol Huh? He's a Sox beat guy. One of the few decent ones out there.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) I understand the average fan having difficulty with something like this, but if you are a "credible" baseball journalist, you should absolutely know that signing a Type A free agent does not cost a team two draft picks, and I'm pretty sure it never has. The incumbent team will receive two draft picks, yes, but one of them is in the sandwich round between the 1st and the 2nd and is compensation from MLB itself, not from any particular team. Bruce Levine is a horrible horrible source of anything. It's best to disregard almost all of what he says. If you want a laugh you should read some of the answers he gives out in his Sox/Cubs chats.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) What's the date we need to offer arbitration by? Isn't there a chance a team desperate for a catcher would sign him before that deadline? I didn't think Buck would move so quickly, but him doing so has thinned out the free agent catching market quite a bit. Maybe a team would be willing to sacrifice a pick (especially if it's a second rounder) and make an offer to A.J. early if they know other teams will be waiting on our arbitration decision. November 23rd is the deadline to offer. The player must decide to accept or decline by the 30th.
  4. I don't believe the decision to offer arbitration or not is as clear-cut as some of you think. It certainly isn't a slam dunk like with Konerko and Putz, but it's entirely reasonable. Sox Machine just put up a very nice piece on the topic. http://soxmachine.com/2010/11/17/buck-deal...skis-prospects/
  5. Details aren't entirely official yet, but this certainly influences the catchers market. If Buck is getting between 5 and 6 million a year, the Sox would be foolish to not offer AJ arbitration. Not much harm in him accepting, and draft picks if he walks.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 15, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Well...if the Sox don't trade a starter, then they don't need a LOOGY...Sale will be there. I'd wager Sale is in AAA starting.
  7. QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 14, 2010 -> 08:54 PM) I'll wait till I see the official announcement on the Sox page.... It is official. Those of us at WSI received responses from Brooks in regard to our complaints.
  8. Interested in the most expensive closer on the market who also has Boras as an agent? Sounds feasible to me.
  9. Best part of the article. Sign some international talent, kthx.
  10. Meh. Padilla just speculating. Good thing you changed the title. I was expecting some hard news.
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Yet another article that points that Sox will most likely take their chances with Brent Morel as their new third baseman. As they should.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Why? The Reds are loaded with potential starting pitchers. Volquez, Chapman, Bailey, Leake, Cueto...and that's just their young ones. Travis Wood as well. I'd kill to have one of Mesoraco or Grandal as a catching prospect. The Reds farm system ain't bad.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) He is going to be Juan Uribe with more power and a lot less defense. This. I think he will be a solid regular at best unless he suddenly develops some plate discipline and a better approach.
  14. Phil Rogers is terrible but he mentioned Mitchell (and EE) in today's article: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...g-mitchell.html
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Mitchell went 0/4, 2 K. He is striking out a TON. Not surprising. He had a 35% K rate in Kanny, and he hasn't played in a while.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) I know this sounds simple, but, it could be the dude just needs some rest. He recovered from a major condition and then played again this year, I'm sure that took its toll. Phegley Suffers Another Setback
  17. No AFL for Phegley. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...farm-staff.html
  18. Jason Bour being added to the Saguaros roster doesn't bode well for Phegley.
  19. The "seriously" should not be in this thread title. Votto is going nowhere.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) I think AA is an important step - usually seen as a big jump from A+, and the year that often shows who the real prospects are. I consider everyone on that starting rotation as interesting. Shirek, last year before his injury, was looking like a guy who might be ready for a jump. Axelrod and Doyle are older, but still have been very successful and may turn into something. Griffith is still very talented and recovered nicely from his injury. Sauer is the only guy in the rotation who I would call weak, but he's not a guy I'd write off just yet. I agree that none of the 5 are "blue chip" in the sense of top 10 prospect at level for pitchers, but you have 4 arms that are all the types I'd say have a 25%+ chance of excelling at AA and becoming just that. The bullpen looks downright filthy to me, in terms of how they will perform numbers-wise. Rem is older but intriguing, Jones is a very toolsy pitcher who bears watching, Bellamy is also a guy who looks likely to be a major leaguer. That's a decent field in the pen. No one of those guys is Top 10 among AA pitchers going in, I'd say. But I'll make a wager with you - I'd bet at least one form the rotation and at least two from the pen will look like future major league serious contributors by the end of 2011. Few will actually reach the majors in 2011, but a number of them will look like 2012 deliveries. Fair enough. I have little faith in almost all of the SP in the rotation personally. I don't see nearly enough upside or track record in that bunch to indicate an improvement on the farm. Aside from Griffith (whose declining K rate is worrisome) I think we'd be lucky if any of the other 4 emerge as a back-end starter. I would agree on the bullpen though. I don't think much of Jones, but I do like Santos/Rem/Bellamy. Here's hoping Bellamy isn't a repeat of Drew O'Neil though.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 07:39 AM) Probably. If my projections are right, looks like a pitching staff for B-Ham of something like... SP: Shirek SP: Axelrod SP: Doyle SP: Griffith SP: Sauer ***(I assume Leesman will be in AAA) RP: Jones RP: Bellamy RP: Corley RP: S. Rodriguez RP: Remenowsky RP: Santiago Yeah, I'd say that will probably be a solid staff. Why exactly does this pitching staff make the farm system look better? I see a bunch of fringe guys and bullpen arms. Not a single blue chip pitching prospect. I'm a fan of Santos Rodriguez, Remenowsky, and Griffith, but the names on this list are not even close to a good example of an improving farm system. With Hudson gone and Dayan losing his rookie status, I'd wager that the White Sox farm system is at the absolute bottom of the league, somewhere in the bottom 3 for certain.
