  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) It's going to be funny when he signs elsewhere. I'm okay with it. I'd prefer the Sox sign Soler.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) Well, that kid is definitely a DH or corner OFer, 50 inch vertical be damned. And if his best tool is hitting, he's probably not worth the price tag unless it comes heavily discounted. We already had Quentin at that price and it wasn't worth holding onto him. Ventura can fix him, Tm. His hit tool isn't his best. Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein 70+ power, 60+ speed and arm. 3. Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Yoenis Cespedes is 0-for-2 with 2 Ks so far. Everybody jump to conclusions! 6 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein To be fair, I've yet to talk to a scout who puts more than a 50 for a future score on Cespedes' hit tool. 4 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  4. Can watch a bad quality stream of the game Cespedes is playing in here. He's batting 5th.
  5. Marlins will be going hard after Cespedes. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseb...top-target.html
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) That confused me. I am trying to get him to clarify if he meant someone had surgery, or just a statement on last minute changes. I believe he meant he has to rejigger his list now due to some sort of last minute revelation(s). Edit: I wonder if it has anything to do with Mitchell. He did tweet me in the fall an emphatic "NO" when I asked if I should give up on Mitchell yet. KG does love his toolsy prospects.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) That's cool news. If he doesn't demolish the DWL, he belongs in the minors. He might belong in the minors for a bit either way. But he and his representation must feel pretty comfortable that he will perform well in the DWL. Seems a clear attempt to increase his value by putting on a show against live competition. Should be interesting to see what happens.
  8. BP's White Sox Top Eleven comes out today. KG tweeted this a bit ago: Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Long talk with guy who scouted White Sox system from top to bottom. Major late surgery to list. 32 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  9. Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Multiple reports, originally from @kevcabral , have Yeonis Cespedes joining Aguilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican Winter League. 2 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Yes, the BA list is pretty bad, but what can you really expect from Phil? At least he got the first 5/6 right. As for the bottom of the list, for some dumb reason I was thinking Axelrod wasn't eligible, but yes he and Santiago should definitely have been included. I like Johnson as well and think he should be right around 10 - 12. Agreed on Johnson. He has the upside of a middle of the rotation guy, but he has such little pro data it's hard to place him any higher than 10, which is right where I would probably have him. If he can figure out his control issues he could jump up the list next season.
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Then that's great news. Just wanted to understand why the Blue Jays would allow to leave and this makes perfect sense. Just a guess. Maybe someone closer to the team has some insight.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) I really wish we had some insight on how the Paddy deal went down. Seems like it was a lateral move for him, so I'm hoping and guessing we gave him a significant raise over what he was making in Toronto. You have to wonder why AA was willing to let him go. I'm not sure it's a lateral move. He went from Director of Latin Operations in Toronto to Special Assistant to the GM - International Operations with the White Sox. Probably a raise, more power, more autonomy, and all those good things that come with what seems to be a promotion.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) You really think Martinez and Marinez are better prospects? Silverio is still fairly young (turns 21 in April), has a nice set of physical tools, and is coming off a pretty decent season with the bat. He's obviously a huge long-shot and may not even have a true position (he was beyond terrible at 3B last year), but at least he has some upside if he puts everything together. Moreso than a lot of players in our system. Maybe he shouldn't be in the top 10, but he deserves to be ranked ahead of Martinez and Marinez at least. I wouldn't have Martinez, Marinez, or Silverio in my top ten. I'd probably have Hector Santiago, Dylan Axelrod, and Erik Johnson replacing them, though not necessarily in that order. The Baseball America list is pretty bad.

  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 03:08 PM) And, to feel better, we should accept the idea this signing now pushed us past the Indians and Marlins. You are getting ahead of yourself here. Let's just be optimistic that the organization might be putting a much needed greater emphasis on amateur talent then they have in the past.
  16. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) At 17, I think it's safe to safe he's a LONG ways away from making a difference. Indeed. But that is perfectly fine. The depth in the system is awful. They need more signings like this. I'm very happy with it.
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) NL claimed Fernando. NL Central team.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:48 PM) If he has a good first half, he becomes a very likely candidate to replace Peavy in the rotation if the big league squad is out of contention, and pretty much no matter what he does I'd imagine he gets a September callup. That's fine. If he returns to form with the Sox, great. That's what we're hoping for. My point was that Castro's stock dropped for a multitude of issues. Some bad peripherals, questionable mechanics, an inability to repeat his delivery, and overall sub-par results. His prospect ranking and stock dropped accordingly. I'm just not sure why some people take issue with that. No one is calling him a bust, and many acknowledge that the potential is still there. He's just lost some luster.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:42 PM) Actually, it probably wouldn't, because he'd rapidly be on the big league squad, and that would mean he's not listed in prospect rankings. I hope not rapidly. I'd rather him get some seasoning with a full year in AAA. No reason to rush a prospect who was awful this previous year in order to play on the lost cause 2012 team. And if he makes it but to a point he isn't included on a prospect list, great. Accolades will be deserved and given.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) For example, how many teams have two of their last three actual first round picks on their major league roster? Successful or not, Sale was fast-tracked as a reliever. Love him. Beckham was also fast-tracked and is no crowning achievement currently. I'm not sure why people keep championing Gordon as this great product of the farm system. He has completely underwhelmed so far.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) But one consequence of that could be...if our minor league development people and pitching staff development people can do a solid job...our system could be ranked lowly but wind up overproducing in terms of major league contributors. Absolutely. But if the Sox turn Castro around, that would be reflected in his prospect ranking.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) Tell that to Theo. Why so bitter?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) And the Sox don't get credit for those kinds of guys. And they shouldn't get credit. Formerly good prospects who had horrendous years should and do have their stocks drop accordingly.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) f***ing seriously? Even after all of those trades we're still the worst? I knew it was really bad, but man... They've only added one solid "B" prospect in Nestor, and a bunch of "C" guys. Castro has potential if the Sox can fix him.
