QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 11, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) f***ing seriously? Even after all of those trades we're still the worst? I knew it was really bad, but man... They've only added one solid "B" prospect in Nestor, and a bunch of "C" guys. Castro has potential if the Sox can fix him.

jimcallisBA Jim Callis Yes, they do. #Marlins, #Indians just barely better than them. @jonf1220: #WhiteSox have to have the worst farm system right? 2 hours ago Favorite Retweet Reply

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) You have absolutely nothing to worry about. It's okay though. We won't need prospects when our powerhouse rotation that rivals the Braves of the 90's comes to fruition.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) Yeah the Garza "news" is just a rumor as well, so he believes his source because he broke another rumor? Well, the Oliver story was news so who knows? He might have meant last season's Garza trade. Not sure. -

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) I was just posting anything I could think of to get this thread focused back on baseball. Looks like I only succeeded for just a few posts... Nice. Maybe this will help? FarrellBall FARRELL BALL My source still says that Floyd to #Jays will happen; going to believe him considering he broke the Garza and Oliver news.. #FarrellBall 12 hours ago Favorite Retweet Reply Doubt this trade will happen. And I'm not sure what Garza news he's talking about. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) BTW, ranked farm systems don't mean much to me if it means having a sustainably competitive MLB team. If you are trading 3-4 prospects for young, stud cost controlled MLB players than I think that is a viable use of the farm system. I understand the failure rate of prospects, and using them to acquire young studs is fine because that is the point of a farm system anyways. Absolutely. Which makes me even more dumbfounded that the farm has gotten to this point. Kenny the trader should want to have as many trading bullets as possible. The more quality prospects he has to flip, the more potential for adding the proven MLB players he so desires to the team.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:34 PM) It shouldn't be a race to who can spend the most on bonuses anymore, it'll be about coaching and identifying talent earlier. Agreed. Though I'm not confident in that regard for the White Sox currently. I'd love for them to prove me wrong though.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 10, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) Graduating a player every year from the system (which btw happens all over, not just here) may prevent the Sox from being a few slots better than worst, but that doesn't really change much. Indeed. Graduating players happens everywhere. Decent farm systems have depth, and the ability to replenish said graduations. With the White Sox, it's "oh s***, there's nothing left."

Jordan is taking care of things quite nicely here. I'm always amused that people think the only way to have a good farm system is to have 10 losing seasons in a row.

This thread is all over the place. Any remaining roster spots will be filled internally or with cheap scrap heap guys. The 2012 Sox team will not be competitive. Get over it. The only remaining players that are candidates to be traded right now are Floyd and Thornton. Hopefully they move Floyd as he's absolutely worth at least a B prospect. As far as prospect gains for the Sox versus the Cubs, it's pretty similar. (Rizzo is still a prospect with rookie eligibility by the way) You have both Molina and Rizzo who are "B+" guys, then you have some "C" fodder on both sides. The scales will tip towards the Cubs if they get Turner+. Although, who cares really? Trades can be revisited later once guys have panned out or busted.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 09:21 PM) So does the Jays' acquisition of Oliver take them out of the market for Floyd? Why? Oliver is a reliever. I wonder if the market heats up further if Garza ends up in Detroit. Though who knows if Kenny is even shopping Gavin? -
Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Heard Tigers are open to talking Jacob Turner, but far more reticent when it comes to 3B Nick Castellanos. 6 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) That blowhard Kaplan just said Cubs and Tigers getting close to a deal on Garza. Good. Hopefully that leads Kenny to trading off more pieces himself. No more of this rebuilding while contending garbage.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) How is having David DeJesus on your roster rebuilding? We picked up a player who'll be better and cost us virtually nothing in Alejandro DeAza. Having David Dejesus doesn't effect rebuilding one way or another. He's a warm body that fills a need and is signed at a reasonable rate. Every team has players like that. If he rebounds into something valuable, the Cubs have an asset to flip. If he remains as it, so be it. Nothing more, nothing less. -

QUOTE (scenario @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Hmm... looks like Farrellball took the Floyd post off his blog. http://www.farrellbaseball.blogspot.com/ Did he ever post about it? I checked his website occasionally and never saw anything posted regarding Gavin. Edit: If you are talking about the post on the twitter timeline of his site, it was merely pushed off by newer tweets. -
2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Kenny loves Cespedes, but it may make more sense to move on Soler, call him our top prospect and let him develop for a couple years ala Viciedo.. Yes please. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:06 PM) On MLB Network yesterday, Heyman made it seem like this guy is a lock for Miami and he's going to get between $50 million and $60 million. I'm going to guess between $40 and $50 million. I'd still prefer the Sox go after Soler. I think he would fit the contention timeline better and won't break the bank as much. Could one imagine if Kenny gets Cespedes and he's a bust or average at best? He's not necessarily a sure thing. Some baseball people have compared him to Cameron Maybin with more power potential and less speed. He's also not a lock to remain in CF, some see him as a corner guy. Kenny just better be damn sure he would pan out if he plans on giving him such large amount of money. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:14 AM) Must be "damaged goods" concerns about Drabeck and his performance downfall last year. After Sirotka, have to do excessive due diligence, especially with young pitchers. I still don't think Drabek is part of the deal if this rumored trade is true. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) At the end of the day, Floyd finishes the last 3 seasons around .500 with an ERA over 4.00. The days of 4.37 being a decent ERA are over. I doubt the Sox really want to pay him $9.5 million next year and realized Danks wasn't going to bring back what they were asking so Floyd probably won't next year either. Since they already signed Danks to an un JR-like contract for a pitcher, there's probably no chance they dip into that well again next year, I think this rumor is bunk, but I do think KW realizes if he wants to get something for Floyd now or at the deadline at the latest is the time to move him, and I think the return is smaller with every passing game. I hope they trade him too. Deck McGuire plus a decent low level prospect I'd be content with as a return. I just don't think Gavin's ERA tells the whole story. I think he has more value then people perceive. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:56 PM) He was 2.8 last year which put him behind Freddy Garcia bu .6 but a little ahead of Bartolo Colon by .4. I'm a proponent of fWAR like most, and he put up a 3.6 last year. 4.3 and 4.5 in the previous two seasons. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) If he's thinking of Floyd as a #2 or better its either for his AA team or he needs to be attending AA meetings. He might not be a #2 or better, but 4 WAR pitchers don't grow on trees. Gavin is a valuable commodity. He's one of the few Sox players I feel that people consistently underrate.
