Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (gatnom @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) I don't think either of us really wants to have them mess this up by having them trade for whatever they can get. My point is mostly that a team like Boston is already a playoff caliber team. The White Sox haven't been close in years. They're the ones who need to make something happen way more than the Red Sox. The problem with trading for a Jackie Bradley Jr. type is that his value is very nearly that of Sale, and you might not be able to get much more out of the Red Sox other than him. I'm not sure that's the trade they need to be making right now, but it could make for an interesting retool on the fly situation. Disagree on value of Bradley. If Bosox trade him, they wouldn't miss a beat. They would just slide Benintendi in there. I have no doubt that they consider him much more valuable than Bradley. On another note, this right handed pitcher Kopech supposedly throws harder than Chapman. Has hit 104.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) I honestly think the top 20 picks or so should be protected. If you didn't make the playoffs, you should have a protected draft pick. The MLBPA does not agree with you.

Much ado about nothing. Cespedes isn't signing with White Sox, for several reasons.

Rumors that Cespedes is opting out
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 6, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) I don't believe he would have a draft pick attached to him if he chooses to opt out. I don't think that makes him eligible for a QO. I think you are wrong.

Hire Barry Bonds as hitting coach.

Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (professa @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 10:33 PM) I still think the Sox will still try to compete next year, but do so by acquiring young players that can make an impact right away. I'd like to note I'm in favor of a complete teardown, instead of this semi-rebuild which I am about to propose: Sox trade Quintana and Brett Lawrie for Yoan Moncada, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Blake Swihart Sox Sign Carlos Gomez 1 yr/8M deal with option Sox sign Chris Coghlan 1/5M deal Sox Sign Pedro Alvarez 2 yr/18M Sox Sign Geo Soto C/mon Man. Get real. Do you think Boston will give up Moncada? No way. After popping $60 Million for him? And you think Sox will throw $18 Large at Pedro Alvarez??? What??

Why Do KW/RH Get to Keep Their Jobs?
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 07:41 AM) i was and in some way very critical of the sox FO as anyone. but i still thought back then, getting Shields was a good gamble. who would have known that JS would have produce as he did. pls think back, many posters were not happy at the way the sox was going into the season, esp in the SP dept. i just hoped they, the owners learned from their mistake. now the BIG QUESTION is, are the sox going to be buyers or sellers???? LDF: Where have you been?

White Sox Acquire James Shields
QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:26 AM) Are you sure about that? Sounds logical to me.

Renteria to Replace Ventura
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 08:51 PM) I would also add that they should have waited a short time to see if a surprise candidate surfaced. The Cubs didn't know Maddon would be dropped into their laps. By waiting a week or so they may have found 1 or 2 other people. But, hopefully this is step one in an off-season that will regain some credibility to an organization that is in a really down period. Maddon also went after the Cub job when he had that window of time to make himself a FA. He wanted the Cub job. I doubt if there is another manager out there of his caliber who would want to get the White Sox job.

Kenny Williams Leaving?
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Oct 1, 2016 -> 11:40 PM) Personally, I like KW and his try to win every year mentality. To me, that's what you should do. His biggest mistake was not getting along with, or coming to some kind of workable situation with Guillen. He let it become personal and that's started the downfall. As for his "bad" trades. The only one of significance I can think of is the Swisher trade. There may be some more that have slipped my mind but nothing of significance. I know there was a lot of much wasted hand-wringing over Daniel Hudson and Holmberg but those guys really did nothing. If Kenny does leave, someone here will probably start a thread listing his bad trades.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 30, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) You honestly think a good manager is worth an extra 6 wins a year? Come on. That would rank them the equivalent of a top caliber player. If that were the case they would make far greater money than they do. Now you've done it. Someone will come up with a WAR for Managers.

USA Today: White Sox Will Retain Robin Ventura, If He Wants to Return
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 06:34 PM) In my opinion, the farm system had a dreadful season outside of the incoming draftees. No one really came out of nowhere to become a significant prospect. Yep. The top four, full season teams had a collective 100 + games under .500. Not good. I didn't take the trouble of looking at other farm systems, but I doubt if any other system had a worse record, as far as won/lost records go.

AL Cy Young
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 28, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) I'm in the group that says post-season should count. Its definitely a variable people consider when voting. The reason post season play does not count is because it should not count. Never has. There are post season awards.

I just now heard the story from the Philadelphia announcer. Now I wonder what the kid's Visa status is/will be for next season. I hope he can stay here.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 2h2 hours ago Adam Eaton's 18 outfield assists, which lead majors, are most by a #WhiteSox OF since Minnie Minoso and Jim Landis had 19 each in 1955. Wrong again. Landis wasn't yet with Sox in 1955. His first full year was 1959; he came up for a few games the year or two before that.

9/19 Sox at Royals
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 03:48 PM) So for those who have TV access, that's 2 bad starts for Rodon in a row following his good stretch. Is there something serious here we should be worried about, or are we simply in "he's up against the innings number he threw last year and his arm his hitting a wall" territory? Is he still using the changeup he was featuring 2 weeks ago or has pitching style changed again? The K.C. announcers blamed the hot weather for Rodon's difficulties.

September 18th Game Thread: White Sox at Royals
QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Yeah it was like that yesterday too. I like Benetti, but the combo of Hawk and Stone (when Hawk isn't in a depressed mood) is much more enjoyable IMO. They all talk too much. Except Vin Skully.

Chicago vs. KC 9/16/2016
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 05:17 AM) All of our bullpen guys so if someone goes down next year we know the order with which AAA relievers should be recalled. No reason to pitch our starters 110+ pitches in September with the season lost. Disagree. 110 pitches is a lot for some pitchers, not so much for others. Sale is in the second category. He still had his stuff in the 9th, maybe control off a bit, but he was still competing; he clearly wanted to stay in and finish the game, so let him and not risk a bullpen guy giving it up.

Sox in pursuit of Puig
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 05:14 PM) Doesn't really make sense for the Dodgers. They don't need another highly paid often injured sort of not bad outfielder Disagree. I think Braun would look great in LA next year. Ethier and Reddick will be gone. Braun can still rake, and he is very serviceable in LF. They can afford him. Look at his stats for this year. He hits, period.
