QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 07:28 PM) As much as AJ plays, Flowers is better served in the minors, with some veteran defensive C as the back up. We have a couple of those guys in our system -- Gimenez at Charlotte, Espino at B'ham. Both around 30, have played all over the place and they hit a little bit. Never saw either one play, but they seem to be professional catchers right out of Bull Durham.

Dunn now 13 AB's from the Mendoza Line.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) Flowers is 0 for last 13 with 8 strikeouts. He's also 3-28 vs RHP on the season. Flowers has out-Dunned Dunn.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 06:35 PM) Swing the bat! What a bad hitter Flowers is Is there a chance Phegley will get ahead of Flowers next year?
-
I would rather have Johnson than Hudson. If Dunn goes 0 for the rest of the week, same thing.

The W-S Dash has some great offensive numbers for the season. Probably looking at 2013 B'ham team.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Some nice starting pitching all around the system today. Devenski doing quite nicely for a first start. Kevin Moran, at Bristol, has 2 appearances so far, to the tune of: 0 IP, 0 H, 7 ER, 6 BB, 0 K, 3 HBP and 4 wild pitches. He's faced 9 batters, and he's either walked or hit every one of them. Yikes. He was the 9th round pick for the Sox in 2010 out of BC, had a good 2010 in Bristol and Kanny, a lousy 2011 in Kanny, and now he's back in Bristol throwing like Wild Thing. The antithesis of an 'innings eater'.

Who would you send down? Viciedo or Escobar? Or a pitcher? Or Adam Dunn? Can't send Dunn to minors, you would have to cut him (won't happen) or put him on the DL for 15 days. Escobar is back up SS, 2B, 3B, etc. Many think Viciedo has big time future with Sox. The way Dunn is (not) hitting, not a bad idea.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 08:41 PM) Why do so many of our guys get into swing happy mode? Instead of letting the pitcher make the mistake and walk them, they bail the pitcher out by continuously swinging at balls... They are trying to impress their new teammate.
-
He's pitching his way back to Charlotte.
-
Dunn gets to hit in the 8th. Can't stand the tension.
-
Dunn is 16 AB's away from the Mendoza Line.
-
Dunn now 3 for 3. Better off with Hudson at DH.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 06:32 PM) That's an insult to Dick Stockton Who was Stockton married to??

Moyer was clearly not good enough for the Rockies, who have arguably the worst starting pitching in MLB.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Leyson Septimo is very interesting to me. Always put up big K numbers, but had huge control issues. Joined Sox system at B-Ham last year, and but his walk rate by about 30% in the same league... now this year even lower, and lower still in his last 10 games but still striking out a fair amount. Plus hitters are showing only .135 BAA. Versus lefties its .095, a ridiculous 6.3 GO/AO, and he's only walked 2 vs striking out 16 against 42 batters. Me thinks he could be the next LOOGY experiment in Chicago. Last year Septimo was on the 40 man roster; not so this year. He's prob one of those guys who will have to be promoted at end of year or risk losing him in draft.
-
If KY hits anything over .225 he might be here next year as well. Kenny won't pay him $13 Large, but he won't get that anywhere else either.
-
Trade clears yet another space on the 40 man roster.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 03:26 PM) I'm glad we traded Lilli and not Escobar. I can't see Lilli getting the game winning hit there... Looks like all that Boston talk about trading to the NL was BS.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 24, 2012 -> 07:50 AM) $3 million of salary relief and a marginal prospect is better than nothing. You trust Kenny more than I do. If it's mostly money Kenny gives away, then it's another Manny deal. If it's prospects, we'll get shafted. We have several prospects worth keeping, and Boston knows who they are.

Is that six straight hits off Jones?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) I really don't see any reason to. He'll be 20 at the start of next season. Let him start next year at AA and he'll still be amongst the youngest in the league. I'm more than fine with that being the plan. Nothing wrong with him spending a full year at A+, especially when he hasn't shown much power yet. Right out of the Mike Trout/Bryce Harper School of Player Development......Yes, they have much more power, I admit, but for all I know Sanchez will never be a power guy, so that shouldn't be part of the equation. It's not like we are loaded with middle infield prospects in the high minors. If we are lucky to get a really special young player, we should push him along. Of course, now that I have gone out on the limb, he'll prob go into a tailspin, but so far he has accomplished everything asked of him. We can all scout him in the Futures All Star Game next month.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) He's not under contract for next year. He has a team option at 13 million or a 1 million buyout. Sounds like Manny Ramierez all over again.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) I know you have been hammering this point about how bad Youkilis has been for awhile now, and I can't dispute your concern. However, I am curious as to what you would do at 3rd. Would you continue with Hudson? Let Escobar play more? Maybe go with Conor Jackson or Dan Johnson? I don't disagree that Youk has been awful but what would you be in favor of? I still think Josh Fields would help, and he would not cost much if anything. Sox should not be hung up on defensive shortcomings from 3-4 yrs ago. At least scout him to see if he has improved. At least he can hit more than a little bit.

Sanchez moved to SS for W-S. Ravelo moved to 1B for Kanny a few days ago. Wilkins at 3B for B'ham.
