  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) Ryan Sweeney would be a fun return, slot him in the 9th hole, provides decent defense in LF and won't kill you at the plate. Will Venable Chris Denofria Franklin Gutierrez (if healthy) Laynce Nix Corey Hart (pricier) Cuddyer (if you can get him cheap) That's just a list I came up with in ten minutes. My sense is that Rockettes would love to trade Cuddyer, and his $10MM salary per yr thru 2014. They have a couple of minor league outfield prospects who can play. That's pretty pricey for a 4th outfielder. But he is still a good player.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:45 AM) Have same feeling the day before Arnie Munoz pitched against the Expos, lol. Nice recall! I actually felt sorry for Munoz that day. What year was that? Ozzie would not take him out, then we scored a bunch of runs later, not enough to win obviously. Not one of Ozzie's better games, either. Munoz actually made it back to the Show, pitched a game or two with Mets, I believe.
  3. Three players signed from DR....Is this called outsourcing?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) How many years of scouting 16 year old have you put in? Enough to say that he looked awkward/a bit uncoordinated on the defensive part of the video and enough to see that he wasn't squaring up the pitches on the offensive part of the video. His bat speed is not Viciedoesque. I just saw the video. Of course, $450,000 doesn't get you what it used to.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) Per @BristolSox GM Mahlon Luttrell, big league infielder Brent Morrell will begin rehab assignment with club. This will lower the team BA at Bristol.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) I thought it was 30? Yes, but you can always fabricate a brand new injury, starting the clock over.
  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) I gotta admit, Shoemaker is impressing me. I'm still a doubter because 25 in AA is nothing to write home about, but he is raking. Now I get it. I finally get it. If you are young and hitting well, we can't promote you. And, if you are old (25 in this case) and hitting well, we can't promote you, even though you (Shoemaker) have hit well every year since being drafted 3 yrs ago. We should call this the "Promotion Window". If one looks at the career stats objectively, Shoemaker should be a much better prospect than Mitchell or anyone else (outfielders) from Kanny on up. But he is a year and a half older than Mitchell, so he is past the Promotion Window. Most people consider Mitchell a better prospect. It helps to be able to run a 4.5 40 and broad jump 26 feet as opposed to being able to hit a line drive in the gap. Of course, I have now jinxed Shoemaker beyond repair.
  8. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) http://dplbaseball.com/featured-post/luis-...cago-white-sox/ Link offers a video and more info on the man child. Saw the video; did not see anything justifying a major bonus.
  9. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jul 16, 2012 -> 11:41 PM) I thought it was 10 years in order to qualify for pension? Ten years = fully vested. Player and his children and grandchildren should be set for life. Four years to qualify, I believe.
  10. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) jones would be great if he could get righties out Nate is no longer untradable.
  11. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) Adam Dunn has tonight singled and stolen a base. This is more momentous than that time Tyler Flowers got a base hit. This year?
  12. Seems like Viciedo is a better second half player/hitter. I don't want to move him.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) DSL competition is so all over the place, its really hard to draw any conclusions from them. At that level and age, 95% of your scouting has to be about tools and skills, not results. Not that its bad for those guys to put up nice numbers of course - it only helps. Just saying, it is really stretching it to read a whole ton into it at that level. I see your point, but it seems to me like there is not a natural movement up the ladder from DSL to Bristol, Kanny, etc, almost as if it's a recreational league. There are a couple of exceptions, I'm sure. I know the Rockies promoted a young pitcher from DSL who was lights out, but he has not appeared yet on the roster of their Rookie League team. Might be Visa problems, language, whatever. Or it might be that I am impatient, but if we have some kid who is really raking, I would like to see him promoted to a higher level.
  14. Cruz has not yet appeared on our DSL Roster. There are a couple of players on that team with big time stats, by the way.
  15. He's lucky to have qualified for his pension, if he did.... Believe he needs 4 yrs service time; close.
  16. Did Hawk mention the dreaded lead off walk(s)?
  17. What effect will Ax's 2 innings on Fri/Sat have?
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) oh well. can we have a stress free 9th for a change? Sounds like a post from Ventura.
  19. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) Flowers? Why would anyone want him? He'd be good in a brawl.
  20. Gotta consider it. If he goes to free agency at end of year, we should be able to get draft pick for him, lessening the prospect price we pay for him. We should be able to identify 5-10 prospects on the no touch list and go from there. I imagine that Sox brass will have an idea if Mitchell can ever make it by now.
  21. Even if we got Street, Reed would have plenty of opportunities for quality innings. I wish I knew what Street would cost us. If he would do well, we might re-sign him or get a second round compensation draft pick for him.
  22. Ubaldo got tattooed by Toronto; Indians down 10-4 in 4th inning.
  23. Well, I learned my lesson on Heidenreich; egg is on my face. Sorry I jinxed him.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan MLB today suspended a Phillies farmhand named Ranger Suarez for using the same steroid as Rafael Palmeiro. Suarez is 16. That'll keep Suarez out of the Hall of Fame.
  25. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 06:48 AM) Tall, fast, great D, good at hitting singles off the bench so far. Prob a better pinch runner than Hudson.
