Rumor: Sox are very interested in Angel Pagan
Pagon is prob looking for leverage vs Giants..

How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
Rangers did make the official qualifying offer to Hamilton, so they will get a draft pick.

How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
If we sign him, we still lose another #1 draft pick, I believe.

Sox extend affiliation with Bristol
Which was worse last season, the Bristol team or the Bristol weather?

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Michael Young is owed $16 million next year, is bad defensively, and his OPS was .014 higher than Beckham's. Other than that, he's a great idea . Plus, Young would veto any trade to ChiSox.

AFL and Instructional League thread
If he has a good spring training, Sox will have a tough decision to make on Sanchez.

Sox trade for Blake Tekotte
I see where Tekotte is on the 40 man roster, can't remember if Kloess was or not.

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 08:41 AM) Since a decent 3rd baseman seems so hard to come by, I'm thinking that we may have to think outside the box a little and go the route of a converted retread. I mean like a player who can no longer play shortstop very well, but could still hit a little bit. We did this with Juan Uribe a few years back and while not ideal, it was a better solution than what we have now. I've been trying to think who this could be but I'm sure I could use the help of others who know the rest of the league better than I do. Most of the names that I have come up with I'm not even sure where they are at right now, or if they can still play, or hit at all. Juan Uribe Christian Guzman Alex Gonzales Rafael Furcal Jayson Nix ??? I'm sure that some of these names are laughable, but I have no idea where they are at. Maybe find a shortstop off of the minor league free agent list who is blocked by someone on the major league team. Just trying top come up with ideas. Marco Scutaro of Giants now a FA. He played third while Panda was hurt.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread
BoSox signed Ortiz for 2 yrs, making slightly less than Dunn.

KW Jr. Traded
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) I assume this is a joke, right? Mark Tracy is a 24-year-old 22nd-round draftee who has played three seasons of A Ball, with an OPS never higher than .758, as a 1B/DH. And it looks like he's only played in parts of those seasons, either due to injury or being a bench guy. In any case, he's actually less "legitimate" than KW Jr was, amazingly enough. They made the trade to get rid of the distraction and clear a path for more talented OF players in the Sox system. They offered him around, and this was probably the best they could get for him. He also happens to be a Chicago area kid. Not a joke, just a simple statement. Actually he is 27, but his last three years were at AAA level where he hit in the .260 range with power and defense. That makes him a legitimate albeit journeyman minor league player. KW, Jr has never got out of the .250's at any level, has little power, never played above AA (for good reason), and is a year younger than Tracy. Sorry if I struck a nerve.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread
Sox need hitters more than anything. Speed would not hurt. If the team we have now is the team we will have next summer, it will be one of the worst offensive teams in the majors.

KW Jr. Traded
Tracy is a legitimate minor league player. KW, Jr. probably is not.

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Saying Adam Dunn is untradeable is just plain wrong. Who would want him at $28 large over 2 yrs?

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
Casey McGehee just became a free agent. I don't know what happened to him. 2012 was a lost year for him; decline started in 2011. Before that, he was a servicable player. I can't see anyone giving him a ML contract for 2013. RE: Morel...I don't believe bad backs get healed enough to play ML baseball the way he did it. We'll find out in March. Sox'll have to pick up a 3B somewhere.

So what type of 3rd baseman do we need?
I saw most of the Rockies' games this, year, and, boy, do they need pitching. They also have three young infielders who can all play third very well and they can hit. They also have a new GM who is probably afraid to pull the trigger, but one of these three guys would most likely be available for pitching. They are all better than anything we have, including Morel and Youk.

White Sox Re-Sign Jake Peavy
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 08:49 AM) I'm guessing the number would have come in at about $75-80 million over those 4 years. No way he would have gotten that much.

AJ files for FA
Whether AJ stays or goes, it's his choice either way.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:38 AM) Is that for ALL free agents? I thought it went by position? Position is irrelevant. Never has been. Why would it be? What if a guy plays three positions?

AFL and Instructional League thread
Wonder who the Sox Brass thinks is the better first base prospect --- Wilkins or Dan Black?
-
Rick Hahn the new GM
I'll believe in Hahn when he comes out and decries the Dunn acquisition, the trading of Gio (second time), the whole Swisher episode, and the idiotic trade with Arizona.
-
2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
I just saw where the major league qualifying offer to 2013 free agents was set at a little over $13 Million. This is the amount we would have to offer AJ in order to get a draft pick. Not gonna happen.

Gordon Beckham: Hope on the horizon?
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) Link? I'm kickin' 80. What's a link? But, that interview was hilarious. I saw it on TV, also on the internet, either here or the Trib. Can't remember.

Gordon Beckham: Hope on the horizon?
His best moment in 2012 was when he imitated Peavy in that interview.

Adam Dunn - Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Winner
Can you win it two years in a row? I guess not. Dunn might be eligible to win it again in 2014.

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?
QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 12:28 PM) These players have nothing in common Sure they do. They are all in sharp decline. Jones knows it and admits it, even if you don't.
