Updated MLB.com Prospect Rankings
Defense is sooo important for a catcher, backup or otherwise. I have seen a lot of Willy Rosario of the Rockettes this year. Rookie catcher who is really coming on with the bat, but he is terrible at blocking pitches in the dirt. He leads the Free World in passed balls and no doubt has contributed to many wild pitches, and his staff and Mgr. has to have lost confidence in him. My only point here is that if Sox are contending in 2013, they could not have that poor a defensive catcher on the ML roster, so I hope Phegley is up to it, because he might be on the team next year, if AJ goes away.

Updated MLB.com Prospect Rankings
QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 8, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) So basically your argument for Phegley is that he hasn't proved he's bad due to other factors, therefore he could be good? Danman, are you an attorney in real life?

Updated MLB.com Prospect Rankings
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) Leesman at 3 is laughable. Molina with his year at 4 is also just as bad. These rankings are horrible. You're way too hard Leesman. H's gone up the org ladder every year and pitched well at each stop. If Sox don't protect him, someone will give him a shot next year.

Game Thread 9/7
QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 08:48 PM) What if the Catcher gives the intentional walk sign and stands up and the pitcher says f*** it and fires a strike? I know it end up being a wild pitch(if the umps baby maker didnt get in the way), but I think it would be hilarious Happened in the world series, A's vs Reds.

Anybody know what the Sox have planned for Hawkins in the off season?

AJ Did Not Test Positive; No Story Here
If true, AJ's PED's sure didn't help his speed or sliding ability at home plate.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) Phil Humber ... the guy whose career ended the same year he pitched a perfect game. Wow. Ever since Dave Letterman interviewed Humber, he came apart. But why does Ventura leave him in so long? 8 hits, 2 walks in 1/3 of inning.

Men of the South Side vs. Orcs
They're laughing in Detroit.

Men of the South Side vs. Orcs
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) No one up in the pen? That's the way managers manage now. Can't get anyone warmed up in second inning unless ten runs are in, even if you have 15 pitchers on the staff. They must learn this in Manager School, where winning a ball game is not as important as others thinking you are the smartest guy in the room.

Men of the South Side vs. Orcs
QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) embarrassingly bad attendance tonight. I am/will be out of town for next weeks series against the tigers, and i am contemplating buying tickets and not going simply so that Tigers fans dont overrun the cell An out of towner wants to know if the Chicago crime scare is valid these days at The Cell?

Bassitt pitches Dash to best record in MiLB
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) In all fairness, winning percentage doesn't mean much at all in the minors. It's all about development and ability/tools. Bristol had a terrible record but two of our Top 10 prospects in Hawkins and Barnum. Especially at the AA and AAA level, you can have a winning team but almost zero prospects. That's not the case with the White Sox, but the best minor league winning percentage overall (all teams) could still end up being a Bottom 5 or Bottom 10 team in terms of projectable and impact minor league talent. It's still a big tribute to Manager Tommy Thompson and his staff, not to mention the players. And, is Barnum really a top 10 prospect? He played 13 games at Bristol, hitting .279 with 3 HR's. The Bristol Mgr. by the way was Pete Rose Jr.

Kill the catch all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 12:16 AM) Fair enough. But let me ask you a question. Right now I want to open a thread entitled, "We should have kept Buehrle." But I would never do that cause of the scorn I'd get. So I'd put it in catch all instead. My question to you is ... would that be a fair thread to start? Yes.

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 01:48 AM) I think I'm still pissed we let Buehrle go. Who do the Sox need right now??? Mark Buehrle, that's who. He's a legit big-game pitcher. He's just what this staff needed. Cheapskate ownership. You gotta be kidding. Yeah, the Marlins sure showed the world how smart they are.

John Danks involved in a lawsuit
The complaint was written by an attorney, so it can have a lot of untruthful allegations. Plus, the insurance companies are often reluctant to make a significant settlement without the lawsuit.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) Good thing the NBA didn't have paternity leave back when Shawn Kemp played. LOL. You could say the same thing about a few NFL players -- Derreck Thomas, Cromartie.
