Poll attached. Who ends up as 2013's number five starter behind Danks, Sale, Humber, and Floyd (assuming all four are still here) 1. Zach Stewart has the best opportunity to make a run for the spot this year, as he's already pitched at the MLB level multiple times and needs seasoning in AAA. I'd imagine him on the same pitching schedule as Peavy, ready to go incase of injury. If he can get it this year, he has a chance to hold onto it. 2. Nestor Molina was acquired for the best out pitch in baseball in Sergio Santos. He's yet to pitch at AAA so I don't expect anything more than a September Call-Up this year, but he is currently our second best prospect, behind the guy who made it possible to get him. 3. Hector Santiago, or more accurately, Who The f*** Is Hector Santiago? added a screwball to his arsenal last year, which paired with his low-to-mid 90's fastball kept hitters on their toes. Was very good in his one MLB start. 4. Simon Castro may or may not be Jose Contreras's son. I know nothing else other than he;s was once highly touted and got hammered at AAA, but profiles as a classic Coop project. 5. Dylan Axelrod is old compared to the rest of the these guys, but he looked good in his few starts for the team at the end of the year. Seems like the "Not a lot of talent, but will maximize all of it" type. Vote! I'm going with Stewart, as I think he claims the spot this year.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 11:41 PM) My god, he looks just like a young Contreras in that picture..... Jesus Christ. We've acquired his son.

Also, DeMarcus Cousins demanded a trade. What a b****.

Let's see: Boozer is trying on Defense. Korver has looked like he's improved his ball handling. Brewer has clearly worked on his shot. Bogans became Rip. Butler is there to spell guys. Rose's vision and playmaking for others has improved too. ... Where's the weakness?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) No Robin Ventura hate. I like Ventura and I won't be ripping him in game threads. I could see myself possibly pointing out the fact Ozzie would get crucified for a move nobody is ripping Ventura for, but I won't blast him. I like Ventura the player obviously. Ozzie came in with a decent coaching pedigree BTW. He actually was in a dugout helping win a WS. Robin, God love him, is the guy I remember as color commentator at the Little League World Series. I have nothing against him. He was a way better player than Ozzie. I'll be the first to admit that. The problem I have with him is his hiring signifies the fact this team's management believes the team will do nothing the next 3-5 years. They hired a guy with no experience to lead the "transition" years. I'd have preferred somebody like Francona to see if our underachievers might be able to have career years and lead us back atop the division. So if I waved people around a base for the Cardinals last year, I can manage?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) Cause they are on the team and are on the team FOR A LONG TIME TO COME. Mite as well play them. I'm going to communicate via pictures to these posts from now on.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) I know it's been asked before, but how does Kenny still have a GM job? Just the money dealt to Rios/Peavy/Dunn should have the owner wanting to punch him every time he sees his mug. Because he offered to resign and JR said "You can stay" and he didn't quit and throw a tantrum.

Oh f***. WHY WAS HE PLAYING?

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) The only thing I don't like about aggresively pursuing Cespedes is that he is another right handed hitter. If Dunn flops again, this team still lacks a left handed presence in the lineup. I don't know how mangagement has overlooked this glaring shortcoming. We don't have a potent left handed bat anywhere in the organization. Oh well, at this point we may not have a potent right handed bat, save Konerko. He is a 5 tool player, but is he really good enough defensively to play CF? Can he steal bases? If he can do those two things, he might be worth the money, I don't care what hand the bat is if he can hit. -
I really don't like Jared Allen

Chances Infante makes the bullpen with Frasor out?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) Are we supposed to be bringing in elite talent for Quentin and Frasor? If we packaged them we could have had Bryce Harper.

If Floyd and Thornton are gone before Cespedes signs, I'd say the chances we sign him go up insanely in light of Frasor. -
Kal is in the zone the past few days.

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Here's a scouting video of Myles Jaye and a small write-up on him, kind of reminds me of Daniel Hudson's build and mechanics. If I didn't know it wasn't, I would have thought that was Hudson scouting video from a few years ago based off the mechanics.

Marty isn't Cowley guys. He's KW just f***ing with us.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 1, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) I am sorry but I don't agree with Balta that this trade had to happen. Shedding salary is one thing, but KW said we would be only trading for major league ready prospects. These two guys aren't it. Maybe Kenny needs a lesson on how to rebuild and remain competitive? I am very dissapointed to say the least. We had a real good player in CQ. He swings a good bat with power. He is a hardnosed player. We basicaly gave him away. For Milk:

Does anyone know if Jose Quintana is a starter or not? He intrigued me when we picked him up.
-
Bye Q, couldn't hate you. Could get frustrated, but man, he was likable. If I hate anything about the stupid KW-Ozzie feud, it's that we lost a lot of likable guys because of it.

Happy New Years everyone! I anticipate this thread to have an incoherent J4L and JoeCool, a random ass Heads, and an angry wite. Have a good one guys

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) I typically make a run around this time of year, not necessarily a precursor for the year to come. If the Sox are as bad as we expect them to be: probably not. But hey: keep pissing me off and you never know. Well f*** you then. (Is it working? We need more Kalapse on this board.) Man, I really hope we sign one of the Cubans with some freed up money, which is why I could see Thornton and Floyd gone next.
-
My dad just slammed Castro and Hernandez because "KW traded for them, so they suck" He's a little angry over Buehrle.
-
Honestly, I'd take a little less to work everyday with familiar faces who understand where I'm from and speak my language. And by work around, I mean in the lineup.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) I hope they can. If they move him and Floyd the payroll would be at ~92M and they could make a serious run at Cespedes. Sign him and put Viciedo on the block.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) The bottom line is for every pitcher you can say Cooper helped throw strikes, there are probably 25 or more you could say he couldn't help. Counting on Castro suddenly throwing strikes is something no one should really do. You really will never get over Walker, will you>
