Jon Garland has cleared waivers according to FoxSports
Quin replied to DaveBrown85's topic in The Diamond Club
Garland would be a good 5th starter if Coop could get him back to form. If not, eh, I won't cry over him. Though he'd need a new number. -
Bummer about no rubbing it in Cubs faces, but oh well. Maybe he can beat the Twins... Career vs. Twinkies: 0-0, 2 GS, 2.84 ERA, 12.2 IP, 11 H, 13 K's, 4 BB, 0 HR, 4 ER.

Over achievers on a national scale, as we we're guessed to win MAYBE 70 games and be out by mid-July. Under achievers to Sox-dom because we know they can be alot better. Perhaps Kenny's feathers being ruffled is the spark they need.

Buehrle's good enough to be counted as a good defender, even though he's a pitcher.
-
Make upper deck tickets $9 forever And bleacher seats $27 As demonstrated by the Buehrle series, they could sell out some games with that.
-
During baseball, one of my teammates didn't wear a cup and got a line drive to the balls. Fortunately, the guy is an ass (he blamed the hitter...) so we weren't sad to see him go.
-
Sad that Buehrle had a rough patch where he essentially pitched himself out of the running. Unless he wins every start from here on out and his ERA takes a big plummet, I can't see it happening.
-
Nah, they can't draft him next year without his consent.
-
Well, logic would also say that DeWayne wise blew it in the 13 inning game against the Dodgers (I was there...I wanted to harm both him and Fields), so maybe he gets hits in late games relative to his average?
-
Peavy must come soon So that the team gets amped And won't blow games

Alex Rios - Good all around Mark Buehrle - Does what pitchers need to do and more, probably should have a gold glove. Mark Kotsay - Ability to play first effectively as well as the outfield puts Kotsay up here. Alexei Ramirez (when thinking) - Could be great defender if he used his brain. Paul Konerko - I always trust Konerko's glove. AJ Pierzynski - Best baseball IQ out there. Manages the staff (other than Jose) well, and I count that as defense. DeWayne Wise - Dude can cover ground. See: Catch, The. Chris Getz - Good range and can make the plays needed. Jayson Nix - Like Getz, but not as good a fielder (to me) Ramon Castro - Has a good arm and manages Jose well. Carlos Quentin - When healthy, Quentin is a good enough OF. The injuries cut into his range though. Gordon Beckham - Has done a great job adjusting to a new position. I could see him being Crede Lite soon. Jermaine Dye - Age has caught up with him, but he can still get good reads on the ball. Scott Podsednik - He can get places...that's about it. Alexei Ramirez (when not thinking) - Oh god why doesn't he focus. Dishonorable Mentions: Josh Fields - I though Buehrle's game would be ruined on the 27th out because Fields can't do his name sake. Wilson Betemit - Aahaahahahahahahhahahahahahaha

He's trusting Jobu to much.

The NBA is the only league that manages rookies wisely. Only way Strasburg can justify a monster contract is if he gets called up immediately and dominates. That probably wouldn't happen. So for now he should be content with getting more money than most major league pitchers. Otherwise he just gets drafted 3rd (assuming Nats finish worst in ML again), and he loses leverage, because he definitely couldn't command more than a pitcher drafted ahead of him. And does he really think the Pirates or Padres would pay him $50 Million. It's all the Cubs fault the MLB deals with this. Seriously, Scott Boras broke his leg in their farm system so they sent him to law school at McGeorge in Sacramento.

I expect nothing less than perfection. Though I guess I could live with a win and quality start.

As much as I like Getz, this popped in my head just now. Getz-Injured.

QUOTE (aprec32 @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) Absolutely......we all want an immediate impact. Someone who carries us to the playoffs. I am personally excited for the long term stability and success we may have here. Nothing is guaranteed.....but the potential is something to be excited for. I'm not disappointed with Alex at all. That may be different a year from now, but I'm willing to give him a shot well before I send him down the river. We got immediate (literally) impact from Erstad and Griffey. Did not work out so well.

I figured Bobby's secret was not having kidney stones. That or the fact that he can throw a good fastball and a nasty curve.

I call Jermaine Dye "White Guy" since thats what Uribe called him. Also, one time, my brother told his wife "Want to see why Juan Uribe is a pimp?" She thought he said "Laundry Baby Pimp", so that became Uribe's nickname.
-
I'm glad Beckham didn't change his number. I got his shirt recently. But if he did, #0 would have looked cool.
-
Fox sucks alot Glenn Beck said no White Sox game They obeyed his wish

I wondered where Stephen A. Smith went...really liked that guy. As for Wise, I meant he's losing the 25 Man Roster Spot. He'll stay in September, but come playoffs, Peavy gets that spot. Unless Wise tells Ozzie he can pitch and play 3rd, in which case Beckham and Peavy will be DFA'd.

It kinda reminds me when Beckham wrote how he was in Birmingham and some adults sent a kid over to get an autograph to be sold

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 15, 2009 -> 02:19 AM) I really want to see Dan Hudson start up here, but I'm not sure if it would be beneficial in the long run... It would probably be better to leave him down there a bit, but damn, i want to see this guy pitch. I assumed that was the plan, but it seems Rick Hahn now only talks about either Beckham's man strength or how Hudson could be up this year.

So, after I saw the Trib. article on Hudson possibly seeing the South Side soon, I'm confused. When Peavy comes up, that leaves one rotation spot open. And rid us of DeWayne Wise. So what happens? If Freddy pitches well, I'd assume he'd take the fifth starter spot, and Contreras would get Randy Williams' bullpen spot. But what if Hudson also came up for some reason, would he contend for that fifth spot or would he possibly (hopefully) take Pena's spot?
