QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) Marquez a good arm? he's in the gutter value-wise right now and is at the very most a throw-in for filler. Torres has maybe some marginal value, same with Nunez, but none of those three are worth much. And, even though I'm as big a fan or Wassermann as there is on this board, Ehren isn't even on the 40. He's got near-zero value in trade. So basically, you are trading Flowers straight up for Crawford, and that won't get it done. If you are right though, and Flowers + shrapnel would do it, then I'd be all for it. After reading Marquez's stats, I'll agree with you. I think Torres and Nunez might be able to be thrown in, and the reason for throwing in Ehren was he did have some brief success in the majors, so the Rays may take a look at him.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 10:32 AM) A team that has 4 quality starters, why does everyone want to mess with that? They read Phil Rogers.
-
Crawford wouldn't net a monster price, but he'd demand probably Flowers and a good arm or two (Torres, Nunez, Marquez, other minor leaguers) and a throw in reliever (Wassermann?)

Wilson Betemit Someone needed to warm up #15 at 3rd Base.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) I mean its a stretch to put HOFers playing makes it a better game. My point was HOFers stepping up, not so much the fact they were in the game.
-
I can sum it up as... Casual baseball fan prefers yesterday (exciting, errors, mental gaffes, working over mistakes). Die hard fan prefers the Blackout (each pitch mattering, HOFers, defense, pitchers duel)
-
I voted for the 1-0 victory, because it had everything you could want. A pitchers duel. A blackout. Hall of Famers stepping up (Griffey & Thome)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) The smirk on Gavin's face was worth it all... And the fact that he's carrying what I will assume are Ramen Noodles.
-
Writers will give it to Andrus or Porcello, though I think their are better candidates for both pitchers (Romero, Niemann, Bailey) and position players (Beckham). Anyone remember how Wieters and Price were supposed to get it?
-
I'm in favor of it, since Herm could keep him healthy. Also, Johnson/Pods to fill our holes is the most realistic option, as Figgins' price tag will be pretty big.
-
My favorite is Torres/Nunez as Mario. Or maybe Gavin as Horatio Caine.

Sad day... Only reason I went to day games anymore...after '10 looks like I'm gonna be going to mostly night games

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 10:07 PM) After Kenny's memo you have to wonder if Pods or Konerko will be back. They were both supposedly on the list. I was unaware Paulie was on that list...
-
I hate the end of the baseball season so much.
-
Josh Fields for Lincecum, straight up.
-
Why would we trade Konerko? To push back a run a few more years?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) There's a very real chance D2 never becomes anything more than a 4th OF. I doubt Johnny Danks is going to up and decide to leave so he can play wherever his brother is playing. Remember, Johnny Danks never came out and actually said he'd do something like that. This is just Sox fan speculation anyway. We've treated Jordan well and our FO knows the Danks family and I'm sure everyone involved is grown up enough to understand that sometimes you have to give up something good to get something good. Hudson is awesome and I'd love to keep him too, but we'd already be stretching it enough trying to get Adrian without including Floyd, Johnny Danks, CQ, or Beckham. Hudson would be a deal-breaker if we didn't include him. The Padres already have a SS so they probably wouldn't ask for both Retherford and Nix anyway. If I were them though I'd ask for CJ because he could be a real nice fit for their ballpark. A lot of Nix's power wouldn't show up in San Diego. Again, I'd break if they absolutely demanded Hudson, but I'd ship him before Floyd, Danks, CQ, or Beckham. As for D2, they might take Shelby + Cash in the place of D2. At least, I hope they would.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Prince is not a possibility. Kenny and Reinsdorf do not work with Scott Borass. For Gonzalez we'd have to start with something like Flowers + Viciedo + Hudson + D2 and then let the Padres have their pick of any 2-3 more out of our system. Or maybe we would have to throw in Alexei, but if we did I'd ask for Everth Cabrera back. And I'd do either deal in a heartbeat. If we make or win the Series in 2010 then the payroll is going to go up quite a bit, enough to keep our rotation together for a major run over the following 2-3 years. And I know that would be a s***load of talent to give up, and people (me included) hate the drain the farm, but winning titles at the MLB level always take priority and Gonzalez at about 25% of market value for 2 years in a row gives us a very good chance of doing that. D2 is my untouchable (See: Danks, John Contract Status) and I'd be very hesitant on dealing Alexei. Hudson I do everything I can to hold on to. But if he's the final piece and the Padres don't budge, I throw him in. I'd let them also pick one of Retherford or Nix, but not both. From there they can gut the farm if they so choose.

QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Id rather get Adrian Gonzalez anyway I'd take either one, but not with Rogers package. I had a thread, and my package was: Viciedo, Flowers, Shelby, Torres, Hynick, Nix. They might demand Hudson, and that's where I up it to an 8-for-2 deal by offering: Viciedo, Flowers, Shelby, Torres, Hynick, Shirek, Harrell, Nix for Fielder and Hardy. If they abo I then turn around and send Hardy out for a first base/catching prospect or BP arm, since he'll be expendable as Alexei is (in my opinion) the better player. But how in Phil Roger's mind is Hudson more untouchable than Gavin Floyd/John Danks?
-
QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 09:59 AM) Given the choice, I'd rather deal Flowers and sign AJ to an extension. You'd probably get more in return for Flowers anyway. I'd do the same, because AJ is an iron man and like you said, you could get more for Flowers probably.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) Fielder would be great if he'd accept an extension prior to the trade, but Boras makes that unlikely. Do we have any Boras clients currently on the roster? God I hate dealing with that guy (it's even worse when you find out the Cubs sent him to law school, because he broke his leg in their farm system). QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) We don't have the bullets anyway. We do, it's just that it'd be a gutting the farm system move (you'd have to give up Hudson-Torres-Hynick-Viciedo-Flowers-Shelby) and you might need to include Nix. It could be worth it, or it could not. Only prospect on my protected list is D2 (because of Danks resigning) and then I explore every way possible to not have to include Hudson.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Even the "experts" are going to have a hard time picking Slowey-Blackburn-Baker-???-??? or Verlander-Jackson-Porcello-???-??? over Peavy-Buehrle-Floyd-Danks-Garcia. Yes, but we're always picked to be crap.
-
Assuming Buehrle's hangover ends next year, you got 4 All-Star caliber pitchers, whom let's assume best case scenario...If Buehrle pitches like he did Pre-Perfection this year, Peavy like he's capable, Danks & Floyd like they did later in the season and you could have 4 Cy Young contenders on your hands.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) I'm not privy to their books or long-term plans, but I don't see why the Rays need to move either of these guys this winter. Upton's under team control through 2012 and they can always let Crawford walk next winter and take the draft picks. Because why get draft picks when you can get AAA/Major League Ready prospects?
