  1. Seattle's winning the AL West next year, hands down. With that fantastic 1-2 punch of Felix-Lee, a phenomenal defensive team, and good bats....just wow. They've come along way from the Bavasi fiasco.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) We need to trade this guy. Morel is a nice prospect, but he put up a .281/.335/.453/.788 line as a 22-year-old in Winston-Salem, which is very good but certainly not great, plus he's not exactly a toolbox, and on top of that, he plays a power position where the offensive standards in the Major Leagues basically start with his W-S production. I get that because of his defense he is one of the safer bets we have to make the majors, but if you're making a top-10 list of "safe bets" then Jared Mitchell isn't even on there and Hudson is #1. If ceiling is the main issue I have no idea how Morel outranks all these other guys, and if it's production + ceiling + age for level then I still have no idea how Morel outranks these other guys. I'd agree with , as I also think Morel is a good prospect, but no where near as good as Viciedo. At least the future is looking bright, because we either keep these players and see how they pan out, or we trade them for some MLB level players.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) That's fine and dandy, but then the Sox lose whatever they have built up in the last two years for one player who is likely gone following the 2011 season and could easily go into full blown rebuilding mode come 2012. I'd prefer to sign Thome or Guerrero while keeping the above prospects, and using them at a more appropriate time in a deal. The reason I'd be fine with it, is the way we've been drafting lately gives me the idea that they could keep drafting some good prospects so by 2012 we're still in the clear. Also, it is likely that Gonzalez would be gone after 2011, but lets say the team makes the ALCS or WS, Reinsdorf might jump the payroll up a bit.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Sweepstakes? Hey, the Mets are interested...so therefore, sweepstakes! Also, Hoyer is saying Gonzalez isn't someone they are looking to trade.
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) Also acquiring Butler, would allow you to move Luol Deng plus an expiring contract for T-Mac if the Bulls wanted to go down that route. Butler's pretty much a 3 thru and thru. Which is why I'd rather move Deng for Butler. Last year Salmons played well at the 3 for the Bulls, not so much at the 2 this year. But if you can move Hinirch for Butler, than Deng + James and/or Salmon for T-Mac, you'd have enough cap to sign, like, 3 big FA's, wouldn't you?
  6. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) Hmm; I'm assuming they wouldn't take Deng instead? I'm warming up to Deng, but I'd much rather have PG: Rose/Hinrich SG: Hinrich/Salmons SF: Butler/Salmons than PG: Rose/Pargo SG: Butler/Salmons SF: Deng/Salmons Though, if you did Hinrich-Butler and then Deng/Salmons/James-McGrady, you'd have astronomical cap room.
  7. QUOTE (Ranger @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Within the context of Konerko having been signed to a slightly-less-than-market-value multi-year extension (in the 2006 offseason), how could they have realistically signed a better, cheaper first baseman for this year? Weren't the Angels and Orioles offering him something like 5yr/$70M?
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) -Konerko to LAA has no potential whatsoever. They have Morales at 1B, Matsui DHing, and an outfield of Rivera, Hunter, and Abreu. The White Sox will have to explore a different avenue if they are to trade for Adrian Gonzalez, and odds are very good that they won't even consider it due to the cost of it this late in the offseason with good pieces already off the market. -Chris Young is not horribly paid. His contract entails for $6.25 mill next year and then a club option for $8.25 mill. Odds are pretty damn good the Padres are going to be looking to deal him separately at the deadline with the hope that he puts up a good and healthy first half of the season. -Dan Uggla is going to cost waayy too much to be a backup infielder, and I don't know why you'd trade for him when you can just sign Thome or Guerrero to a similar contract without having to give up the prospects. This isn't a video game world. Which reminds me: Fields, Owens, Betemit, for Halladay. Yes, the game took that trade. If only we had those 3 players still, we'd have Halladay. Anyway if we went after Gonzalez, I'd explore every possible avenue without giving up Paulie or the rotation. Lets look at what the Braves gave up for Teixeira: Saltalamacchia, Andrus, Beau Jones, Neftali Feliz and Matt Harrison. To match Saltalamacchia, we could send them Flowers. To match Andrus, we'd probably send Viciedo (as in terms of how good the prospect is, and as far as I know, the Padres don't need a SS) To match Feliz, send Hudson. To match Harrison and Jones, you could PTBNL Mitchell or heck, Carlos Torres and Retherford.
  9. To Paul Lukas, I have this to say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGSI316RwWs...feature=channel
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) If guys who can put up Konerko's numbers are a dime a dozen, how come the Sox current DH is Jones/Kotsay? We only had .83 cents
  11. Is it just me, or could can anyone else see AJ being there and dropping a lot of baseball innuendo?
  12. Regarding Paulie, I think that if we acquire a lefty first basemen next year, Paulie could very well be our DH, and I really wouldn't mind that, especially since not taking the field could reduce his thumb issues and he could still rotate in to spell a 1B. This is why I want Gonzalez so badly, as not only would he solve the lefty power hole, but you could shift Paulie to DH and keep him healthy. Regarding Rogers, that article wasn't as horrendous as I thought. Though normally, he sucks. ("Steroid Scandal" is not an MLB team, so why is it Number 9 in power rankings???)
  13. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) The key move IMO, has actually been moving Hinrich into the starting lineup and getting him going, Salmons looks more at home as a 6th man right now, and giving the Bulls that offense off the bench with TT which they need. VDN's got them playing hard again, and Rose had probably his best game of the season tonight, although Jamer Nelson is definitely not 100% healthy with that knee right now, so Rose should have had a good game which he did. As for the Magic, when Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis combine for only 5-23 and Howard has less than 10 touches (he needs to be shooting around 15 a game which basically hasn't happened this season), we're not going to win most nights. Yea, Kirk in starting five is a big step up. Salmons is more of a SF then a SG. Though, now healthy Rose and Tyrus has given a huge boost.
  14. Good for Gavin. If I had to guess, I'd think Danks might have been invited.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) That would be Plan A, and then plan B. And Plan C is rotating DH?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) As crazy as it sound, right now Gavin Floyd might be the least likely pitcher to get traded on the Sox team. Out of the starters, Danks would be the most likely, as he has refused to sign an extension to this point. I'm really hoping Danks signs an extension this offseason, same with Quentin. If not, I might consider shopping them after the season...
  17. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Merkin tries to drop a hint, at Gonzalez or Fielder, but I'll pass it off as wishful thinking. He also hints at a Thome return, so we'll see.
  18. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 1, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) The sox are the only team with an awesome away gray jersey for some reason. Because gray (well, silver) is one of our main colors?
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) Pods is going to re-wreck his career. Kind of glad he wont go north, it would be too weird. Gleichowski has to be one of the crappiest agents you can get apparently. Why is he telling Pods to push for so much? It's not gonna work, and right now it seems as if the Giants are the only team left interested in him. Heck, they could sign Dye (haven't they liked him for some time, and he could provide a bat (well, maybe)) and have 1/2 of the 2005 Sox position players. Sign Crede for reclamation, lure Iguchi out of retirement, trade Bonser, Liriano, Nathan for AJ, and Sanchez for Konerko and they'll win it all.
  20. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) Ugh, why Red? Every team in the majors doesn't need to wear red, blue, or both. Thirteen teams have some form of red in their uniform, and its annoying. I'd be fine with '59 throwbacks with the red outline every now and then, but I have never understood the amount of red in the MLB.
  21. Man, I still love BG, but all our eggs are in the 2010 basket, and sadly he was the one to go.
  22. In the Gartrell video, was that a Dayan sneak attack? Or does someone else wear #24, because it didn't look like him...
  23. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Why in the world would we change some of the best looking uniforms in baseball. I love the colors and the look of the current Sox uni and hat. Sure if they want to have an alternate Sunday uni sure. If its to replace the entire kit, then forget it. The black and white is a clean classic look. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) I have disliked UniWatch since he ranked the "Worst Uniforms Ever" and had the Sox on there for 2 reasons. They wear black socks (and knowing Paul Lukas, if they had white ones, he'd whine to no end about those) and because the Sox were "overdue for a change". Essentially, since they changed so often and finally settled on a good look for 20 years, its time to change. He also hates the alternates being worn with frequency. That's why. Paul Lukas had them as the fifth worst current uniform in need of a change, but basically gave the 2 reasons of black socks and that since their the Sox, they need to change every 5 years.
  24. I love the Girl-Beckham exchange Girl: I'm better than Michael Jordan Gordon: At what? later Girl: If only you looked like that guy Beckham: I'll still get ladies
  25. I have disliked UniWatch since he ranked the "Worst Uniforms Ever" and had the Sox on there for 2 reasons. I don't mind the Red/Black one with the 2-tone hat, but it looks a lot like the Orioles. Not a fan of the powder blues, leave that to throwbacks. The pink ones are straight up atrocious. I like the home uni in the '59 throwbacks, but nothing else. That black hat with the red lines is uuuugh. I actually really like the All-Black with the old school C logo. Wouldn't mind those as a road alternate.
