New Roster Numbers
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) Why is it old guys who join this team love the number 17? First Griffey, now Vizquel? I know Omar is because of Chico Carrasquel. No idea about Griffey.

Who do you have the highest expectations for?
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) Your talking 100+ wins right there. I also expect Buehrle to throw a no-hitter every start. I am an extreme optimist.

SN: Sox Say No to Jim Thome
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Too bad he's right handed. So he is. The stupidity of this move has infected my brain.

SN: Sox Say No to Jim Thome
I just realized. Jayson Nix is our lefty power bat now...crap.

New Roster Numbers
QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Even Lance Johnson? I was about 2 years old when we had Lance. However, the awesome nickname of One Dog makes up for that.

SN: Sox Say No to Jim Thome
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Not this late in the offseason he won't. Now or before the deadline, I really hope Kenny gets something for this team.

New Roster Numbers
I dislike Juan Pierre as #1, mainly because I've always hated #1 on baseball jerseys.

SN: Sox Say No to Jim Thome
Kenny better have Votto/Gonzalez/Fielder under wraps.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) I know, that's why it's important to me. I'm one of those people who take the time to create the most realistic minor league rosters possible. MLB 2K8 gives the user a lot of customizing options. With all the generic minor league players in that game, you can find a face that's similar to most any player. Well, if you ever pick up a The Show game, check out Knight's (from Operation Sports) rosters. http://www.operationsports.com/forums/scea...oster-09-a.html I remember one game in AAA where Brett Wallace and Dayan Viciedo had a slug fest. And having Beckham to take over for Fields was nice.

"Chicago Things" you don't like/do
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 06:01 PM) No they don't. Rockford, Kankakee, and the quad cities don't qualify either. Since when is Kankakee a quad-city? Plus, no one would confuse this dump with a big city. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) After living in Chicago/burbs for 30 years, I've found a new love for Manny's Restaurant. Gino (the guy that flips plates and cuts corned beef) is one of my favorite people in Chicago. The fact that a guy will remember you if you go in 3 times a year is just awesome. Also, I like ketchup on my hot dogs, but Chicago style is growing on me. Used to hate Deep Dish, it's growing on me too.

Viciedo at 1b?
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) Here's a good Dayan report from Scouting the Sally. It's hard to fathom Dayan really struggling in his career as long as he puts in the work. The talent is there offensively. That part made my eyes pop. Definitely excited about Dayan's future.

Who do you have the highest expectations for?
I got big expectations for all of them... Peavy and Buehrle I expect to be All-Stars and Top 10 Cy Young voting. Peavy is because, well, he's Peavy and he can perform like that. The only reason I've got those expectations for Mark are because of his new conditioning with Herm this offseason. Quentin, I expect around .290, 30 HR, 100 RBI at least. Rios and Teahen I expect to at least hit .280, 20-25 HR, and around 80 RBI. Alexei, just a return to his '08 form. Beckham to be an All-Star. Danks and Floyd to have around 15 wins each and ERAs around 3.50-3.70 Ozzie, I expect at least 10 ejections that involve awesomeness. Pierre around .300 with 40 SB. The Bullpen to have a group ERA around high 3's, low 4's. Paulie and AJ I'd be fine with them just replicating their '09 seasons give or take.

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) Yeah. We're good on backup OF's. If anything, the only other position available is backup IF. It's why I come back to either Blalock or Hudson as worthy thoughts if we decide not to go with Thome. They can hit Left Handed (Hudson is switch), Hudson is really good with the glove and could take up serious IF time, Blalock could at least be an emergency situation backup IF. The odd part with Hudson, is that he's a Gold Glove 2B, and I could almost see a Teahen to RF, Gordon to 3rd, Quentin to DH and Hudson to 2B if we signed Hudson.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 23, 2010 -> 11:32 PM) I want to be able to play AAA, AA and A+, that's 90 teams. Not really a little fact. If I can't do that, then there's no point for me. That's why I kept playing MVP 2005 for three years up until 2008. I remember not caring a lot about the minor league teams in MLB games until I played The Show last year, and got some downloadable rosters online. But once the prospects are named, it's really fun playing as minor league teams.

Jenks received multiyear offer from Sox
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 24, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) I think Kenny has something up his sleeve, he usually doesn't BS like this. Last time he did this he got Peavy and Rios. He's gonna do something...

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
Buster Olney thinks Thome would be a wasted roster spot for us. Olney is really an idiot sometimes.

Retherford to try catching
For some reason, I think if the Sox hold on to Retherford, he'll be a starter without a position.

Fun Game: DRAW and DISCARD
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) Actually, the perfect guy is Joey Votto. I don't even want to imagine the cost for Votto. Out of the 3 guys I would want (Votto, Gonzalez, Fielder), Fielder would be cheapest, then Gonzalez, then Votto would be all our top prospects.

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
If Thome becomes a Twin and we don't make a mega trade splash, can't say this season will look promising.

Gordon Beckham, from Third to Second
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 01:39 AM) It's crazy to think that the White Sox have a guy like Gordon Beckham on the team. No kidding, especially since he's homegrown. My brother didn't buy into the hype because he was homegrown, and was mad when I owned a shirt, until he saw Gordon's swing at a game in Oakland. Then seeing him play D at third, my brother agreed he'd be a superstar. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) It's great to see a guy that you know is going to be here for a longtime. He's going to be a figurehead for this team. The oddest part is it seems like he's been shoved to the side this offseason behind Jones losing wait and Peavy being hungry. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) i can't stand being the same age as awesome accomplished athletes. fugh I was glad not having to know that, but then Bryce Harper wanted to be born the same week as me.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 07:38 AM) So, in hindsight, you'd think that a lineup of Garnett, Nocioni, Wallace, Hinrich, and Gordon would have won anything, with how Wallace, Hinrich, and Nocioni self-destructed that year? Well, didn't they all implode because of the Kobe talk? I have no idea how it would have worked out. Maybe KG brings a good bit of leadership and takes pressure off of Gordon, Hinrich, and Noc. Thing is, I don't know. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) And the worst part is...that 0-2 start was against the teams they might have had a chance to beat. Next 3 games are back to back at Phoenix and Houston, 1 off day, then San Antonio. Really, there's no reason why they should win any of those 3 games. Well, unless they drink some of MJ's secret stuff, Rose and Noah aren't gonna be All-Stars.

All White Basketball League to Form
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 09:28 AM) so you don't believe them that they can improve? I don't think you should be making the decisions then. For instance, here is an article on Chicago's version, Urban Prep (again, high success) http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/o...tudents-chicago The point of these isn't "we can't get along with white people so we need our own school!", it's about getting these kids to succeed, and they are. Sorry, forgot this in the last post. It's a mostly (around 70%-80%) black school and a lot of the staff is black. In fact, in English last year, our teacher was black and one of my black friends said "Why she tryin' to teach us to speak like white people." Seriously? Trust me, a lot of them can improve, one guy could have straight A's if he tried. But to give you his mentality, last year in Chemistry, we we're working on some homework, my friend (since kindergarten, but he's changed in high school) shows up 10 minutes into class, and gets mad when the teacher won't give him extra time to do an assignment we turned in at the start of class. So he get's up and says "All you black people, watch out, because she's out to get you" and he stormed out. My best friend (half black, fourth mexican, fourth white) says "So, what about me?" "I guess I hate your feet." Same class, another girl asks if "all the black people can work together" and the teacher says "No." "Why?" "Because if a white person said it, it'd be racist" "Oooo, you right."

The Jim Thome Saga Ends
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) Nix is really redundant on this team after signing Vizquel. Viz is better defensively and bats from the same side of the plate. Nix brings more power against LHP but based on last year is a defensive downgrade. Haven't we mainly gone with a four man bench in recent years anyways? As said prior, unless Kenny's keeping Fielder or Gonzalez under a massive blanket, sign Thome.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) If you're my GM, I'm firing you. If I'm your GM, I trade Deng, Tyrus, and the first rounder for Garnett back in the 2007 offseason.
