2024 Offseason Plan - "Try" to Compete Edition
Alright, I'm gonna try and do this with the "We're Not in a Rebuild Mode and Jerry supposedly spends money on a Suicide Squad" Using Spotrac estimates Total rotation for a team that sniffs that wild card at best: $162.2 Rotation = $57.6 Cease - $8.3 million Jordan Montgomery - $80 million / 4 years (might get 5 years from another team so eh?) Giolito - 2 years, $25 million. Opt-out after one year. Flaherty - 2 years, $25 million. Opt-out after one year. Kopech - $4.3 million Bullpen - $15.8 M CL: ReyLo (Can't break him and Gio up) - $18 million / 3 years SU: Bummer - $5.5 million SU: Santos - $770,000 MR: Garcia - $770,000 MR: Leasure MP: Patino - $770,000 LR: Toussaint - $1.2 million Lineup (in no particular order): $85.8 1B - Vaughn - $4.1M 2B - Merrifield - $30M / 3 years - did higher than spotrac, because he's getting a former Royal bump He'll bounce around 2B and the OF, with Grifol calling him a "perfect utility starter" like TLR did Leury SS - Sosa - Pre-Arb 3B - Moncada - $24.8M - lol LF - Benintendi - $17.1M CF - Robert - $12.5M RF - Adam Duvall - $15M / 2 years - slightly higher cause he had a good year and it just feels like a Sox signing C - Victor Caratini - $10M / 2 years DH - Eloy - $13.8M Bench: 1.5M This would probably change based on, for example, Colson getting called up. But I expect hell to start the season. C - Lee - Pre-Arb 1B/"OF" - Sheets - Pre-Arb IF - Hypothetically Romy - $770,000 OF - Haseley - $770,000 AAA depth of note that may start the season in AAA or will be there pretty soon: $1.5M SP/RP: Crochet - $770,000 SP: Burke - Building arm strength in games with Crochet SP: Nastrini SP: Martin SP: Thompson SP: Mena SP: Scholtens - I know I listed 6-7 guys but idk they'll figure it out RP: Peralta RP: Ramsey RP: Banks - $770,000 C : Quero C : Hackenberg C : Perez 2B: Rodriguez SS: Montgomery 3B: Ramos RF: Colas (Grifol is not letting him on the OD roster)

Current Mood
Spotrac's projected salary is $115,123,285 If it's truly "not a rebuild," they could sign enough guys to put together a reclamation project squad that might fight for a wild card while waiting for the Montgomery and crew crop. They more than likely won't.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
But please, please don't rush him.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Dear lord

Yes, my point is that he very much earned the contract and it wasn't potential. Especially when you look at the going rate for All-Star shortstops. He was dirt cheap.

I mean, that would be rushing those guys, which is what happened what Vaughn.

Idk man MLB ran the ad, not me

Everyone's personal feelings aside, TA had national commercials and MLB kept running his baseball zen ad (the field of dreams moment) all the time. He was obviously marketable. Also shushing the Yankees crowd is all-time hilarious.

Please remember that Getz was hired because we are not in a rebuild and anyone else would take a year to evaluate things.

Oh yeah, TA's only role this year would have been place holder and I don't think we'd have gotten All-Star TA. But I won't be shocked if he randomly becomes good again now that he's left the Sox.

The man was a two time All-Star and former batting champion on a cheap deal. How is that paid on potential??? Edit: I'm talking about his previous seasons, not his upcoming season.

I fully expect TA to be an All-Star now with another team this year because that's how our fortunes work.

Mike Clevinger declines player option.
Even bigger day for Jesse Scholten fans.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Just really hoping one of Sosa, Popeye or Gonzalez works out at second, because Ramos and Montgomery look like the future on the left side. Obviously nothing is guaranteed but they're so fun to watch.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Ramos walk off grand slam!
-
Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Ramos up, bases juiced.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Ok, the Javelina's idea (IBB) almost worked. Batter after Montgomery grounded out choppily to 3rd, but Colson was already at 2nd.
-
Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
With a runner on second, Burke struck out and Colson ets intentionally walked. That's wild.
-
Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Ellard 1-2-3 with 2 strikeouts. Leasure 1-2-3. Started with a supposedly exciting play by Colson if I go by the play-by-play's tone, but the Camera didn't show it.

RIP Coach Robert Montgomery Knight
lmao The bullwhip thing is right up your alley. Or when he told an NBC News reporter that how he handles stress: "“I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.” And my regretful actions in life don't involve assaulting people. Or relishing in berating them. Tony La Russa's got a charity. He's never assaulted people as far as we're aware. You think Bob fucking Knight would have been a fan of the "let the kids play" era of MLB? Tony certainly didn't, but at least he seemed to chill on it after Yermin's bomb. I have plenty of issues with TLR, but he's a beacon of a human being since his regretful action is one of wanton, reckless and dangerous stupidity and not sober, constant, intentional harm to people.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Colson looks so good in the field.

Fall/Winter Ball: Week 5
Burke bomb to left field! No angle on it though because the AFL camera sucks.

ESPN 2024 MLB Power Rankings
The '05 Sox and the '99 Yankees are tied for all-time playoff win percentage. So if we look at their losses as the deciding factor. Both in the ALCS. Sox lost 3-2 to the Angels. Yankees lost 13-1 against the Red Sox. Yes, the Yankees were up against prime Pedro. But the Yankees had Clemens coming off back-to-back Cy Youngs (he had an average year, but w/e). Therefore,, logically the '05 White Sox are the greatest playoff team of all-time.
