QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) You're asking a baseball team to give up the 3 of the top ten prospects in all of baseball who are as young and cost controlled for not the #1 pitcher in baseball. No one has been able to cite an example of when a team came even close to doing that when asked. They want to say he's under a bargain deal. So is Felix Hernandez, so is Jose Fernandez. I doubt Florida even asks for that type of haul. That's because right now, amidst exploding pitching contracts, Sale is being paid the same amount over four years almost equal to Price and Greinke for one year, but is in that class of pitcher. Thr reason an example can't be cited is because any deal for Sale is pretty much going to be unprecedented.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Red Sox flat out told Minny they weren't going to give up both Ellsbury and Lester in the same deal. The Yanks offered Melky, Phil Hughes and a lower level prospect. And at the time, Johan was seen as the sure-fire, no doubt about it, best pitcher in baseball. The Twins wanted two of the three (which might I add, is less than what you guys are demanding from the Dodgers) Ellsbury, Lester Bucholz. Boston countered with Lowrie (not a top 10 prospect in their system at the time), Ellz OR Lester, and Coco Crisp. On top they added a lower level pitcher, possibly Justin Masterson who wasn't a top 10 prospect in their system at the time either. So Red Sox: Ellsbury or Lester Lowrie (not a top 10 prospect in their system at the time) Crisp (MLB player) possibly Justin Masterson (not a top 10 prospect) http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...007/262814.html Yankees: Phil Hughes (#1 Yankees Prospect) Melky Cabrera(MLB Player) third prospect who they refused to to be one of their top ones (Kennedy, Horne or Austin Jackson) http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...007/262804.html http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3138088 So despite what you may or may not feel. There is no precedent for asking for the crazy packages you guys are asking for. Sale's contract is the big difference. Santana had a year left. Sale has four cost controlled years, two being options.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) So waste prime years huh? Because the longer you wait, the asking price goes down. If we can't get full value for his prime years because his value is too high...yes?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) The Greinke and Price deals basically made Chris Sale untradeable. There probably isn't a team in baseball that would pay what would be necessary to acquire him. ZIPS projected that if Sale were a free agent right now, he'd get $299 million over 10 years. He's locked up through 2019 at no $$. That Dodgers package would start Urias, Seager and keep going. Sale is as close to untouchable as it gets. Holy hell where is that ZIPS projection?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) I don't agree with moving Sale because no team is willing to give up the value he is worth. You could hold on to Sale and trade him with 2 years left on his deal and STILL get an enormous package for him, while giving your team 2 more years of trying to contend. The reason I am an advocate of moving Quintana is because I feel someone may actually pay for what Q is worth, and this team will STILL have it's ace. You trade your perennial Cy Young contending ace, and you are punting on the near future. You move Quintana, and you can still have a solid rotation if you replace him with a FA pitcher and Rodon continues to make strides, while using the return package for Quintana to upgrade offensive/defensive needs and still contending for the next couple years. THEN, if the team is still treading water, trade Sale with 2 years remaining and you'll still get a kings ransom in return. I agree with this. If I have to move one of them, it's Q. But if you trade Sale, then you might as well have an open house on anyone not named Rodon.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) I don't know why they wouldn't. To get 3 potential studs for one? That's an easy yes to me. Because Greinke and Price just upped Sale's value. You have a proven ace that's on the most team friendly deal in baseball. So suddenly the Sox are going to take let's say.... Crawford as dead weight and more expensive than Sale. Puig on a down year with attitude issues. Pederson who faltered down the stretch. And Urias, who hasn't seen the bigs. Kyle Drabek once was the centerpiece for Roy Halladay. Mike Olt was a Top 20 prospect in baseball as the centerpiece for Matt Garza. Jacob Turner was an important piece for Anibal Sanchez, who led the league in ERA the following year. Gordon Beckham was a legitimately viable centerpiece for Adrian Gonzalez when A-Gon went on to hit .338 for Boston. That's just people who have been tied to the Sox. Look at Profar for a former #1 overall prospect, can't miss stud who is looking like a miss. Or Jesus Montero. "Can't miss prospects" miss all the time. So if the Sox are dealing the best contract in baseball, they get all the cards.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 5, 2015 -> 12:01 AM) Sox aren't getting Seager, Pederson, Urias and DeLeon for Sale. You have to be smoking serious rocks if you think that. Your best bet is to get two of those guys and maybe Puig while also taking on Carl Crawford's contract. Yeah, Sox aren't doing that.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Yeah, so this looks awesome. I love red band trailers.

Wasn't this kid supposed to headline a blockbuster deal for Sale in some Red Sox fan proposal?

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 11:24 PM) I re-watched that movie during my Bond marathon and it gets worse every time. I hadn't seen it or Skyfall, but I saw Spectre with some friends. My dad said I needed to see Solace and Skyfall to get it. Solace...was so bad. Just. So bad.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:19 PM) You rank Russell and Baez ahead of Schwarber? Interesting. Schwarber is a DH whose hitting numbers dropped steadily and drastically throughout the year. I think he'll wind up another Viciedo.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) I think Loki is solid. Maybe I'm biased to Marvel though. I'm super biased towards Marvel, and the problem with the movie villains aside from Loki is they don't get fleshing out / they turn out to be a British actor.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Kilgrave rocks! Wasn't counting the TV villains. The TV villains, especially Kilgrave, Kingpin and Ward, have been fantastic.
-
Regardless of who Lex is based off of, these previews we're getting of him are making him look like a terrible villain that makes me think of Dominic Greene from Quantum of Solance. Like, worse than Marvel villains, which is a pretty low bar. Obviously reserving judgement for the film itself, but based on this trailer, it looks more and more like this movie is rushing to get everyone in the film.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) "The Son of Krypton vs the Bat of Gotham!!!" How f***ing cheesy. Affleck seems to pull off the cape and cowl. The rest of this looks to be a disaster. I audibly groaned at that line. And Doomsday looking like Marvel's The Abomination circa 2008, Ninja Turtle or a Cave Troll. And for a film called Batman v Superman, don't show them united IN the trailer. Does Wonder Woman just...appear?

I really liked the first minute of the trailer and suddenly found myself getting excited for the movie. Then Lex came in and killed it. Dear god does he look terrible.

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) What is the speculation on the motivation of this one? Its not ISIS or anything right? No idea at the moment.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) They need pitching. Q's value goes up because he now is even cheaper than what aces are going for now. This.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:24 PM) Besides Q, who else would need to be sent to the Rockies for Arenado? Montas? Honestly, the Price deal may have just boosted Q's value high enough that it could be Q and someone like Beck.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 11:04 AM) Okafor is 19, suddenly has a lot of money, is on a potentially record-setting winless team and is apparently being heckled in bad ways. I'm willing to give him a break. Of course, this is why the rest of us go to college at that age. Do your stupid s*** in an environment that allows for some of it and has a support system in place. +1

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 27, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) Now there is talk that Mizzou has to hire an African American football coach or there could be rioting. Poor Missouri. It hampers your coaching search when your fans DEMAND a certain type of coach you must hire. I am all for the best candidate, white, black, blue, gray, whatever!, but I doubt Charlie Strong is gonna run away from Texas for MU just cause some fans despise him. It's not healthy that protestors are getting involved in this as well. Geez. Mizzu should hire whomever it wants. Pinkel was a damn fine coach; the successor could come from his staff. Whether the man is white or black shouldn't matter to the protestors. Citation needed.
